I’m whittling away at my TBR pile and without checking out the blurb I just jumped into reading Darkness Awakened by Katie Reus. I’ve read a few other books by Ms. Reus and enjoyed them so, why not?

My overall feel of this book was okay. Just okay. I liked the characters, and the premise of second chance romance in a paranormal (I am meh when it comes to second chances, but I am always game for paranormal) had promise. The secondary characters were also interesting. It just lacked…fire. Don’t get me wrong, I was a fast read and I did (for the most part) enjoy the story although I did sort out almost all the reveals before they happened. But once I finished, I was just okay with it. No big sparks, no ‘Oh it can’t be over?!’ feelings. Just, I’m finished time to read another book.

To be frank, knowing this was a series, I almost have no desire to continue reading the next book. Except, right there, at the very end. A new character - a dragon shifter. It perked my interest. I see his is the next book in the series. Hmmm… I do like dragons so maybe I’ll give this series another chance.
