Fang Fiction, is a fun way to kick off spooky season. The world of Tess’s favorite book series, Blood Feud, is real. The only problem is she’s stuck there and it’s full of blood thirsty vampires. At least they’re hot blood thirsty vampires.
I was already a fan of Kate Stayman-London’s writing from One to Watch and was really excited to see what she would do with a story that is fantasy based. Fang Fiction is an adventurous, fun, funny, and emotional read. It was really easy to fall into the world and the characters are super lovable. It was so satisfying seeing Tess’s journey and finding the strength to confront her past and I also really loved her relationship with best friend Joni.
The exploration of fandom was also so much fun and the podcast transcripts, text messages, and book chapter interludes were a great way to explore the fandom and the world of the novel. We spend time moving between the real world and The Isle were anything can be glamoured and the vampires are being kept, but there was never a feeling of disappointment switching povs as we follow the characters of Joni and the iconic Octavia in the real world and Tess and in the danger and magic filled Isle. Would also like to note that this book does include the topic of SA but it was handled very thoughtfully and with care.
Vampires, witches, magic and intrigue make this a super fun October read. Would recommend for fans looking for vampires (of course), loveable characters, adventure, and romace.
Thank you very much to NetGalley and Random House Publishing. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This didn’t work for me. It felt too long and it seemed like it just dragged on.
I didn’t like the characters, human or vampires.
And the plot wasn’t moving fast enough.

Please note: This has a cutesy cover but check the trigger warnings, please.
Now that that's done...I LOVED THIS STORY.
As someone who has felt JUST like Tess and her kicking her anxiety and fears butt, the whole story was full of funny moments, magic, strength, and love.
This was low spice but it fit the story so well! You don't miss out on it!!

*3,5
I was immediately drawn to this book by its premise: a woman finds out the characters of her favorite book series are real, and they need her help; oh and they're vampires!
The book definitely delivers on that. Overall, it's a very fun and enjoyable story, especially if you're already a fan of vampire media. (Seriously, if you ever watched Buffy, you'll want to watch it again after reading this book.)
I did struggle in some parts. More speciafically, I would've loved to see the human characters actually struggle to understand and/or accept that these characters existed, no matter how much they wanted to believe it beforehand. Also, the adventure was lacking, especially in the middle, and it felt like the stakes weren't high enough.

I enjoyed Stayman-London's One to Watch in the past so I was excited to read something new from them!
Fang Fiction mostly follows Tess, a current night manager for a fancy hotel in NYC who used to attend a Masters program at Colombia before abrupting leaving and abandoning her roommate and best friend at the time. Tess soon finds out that the vampire book series she's loved is real; and she needs to help one of the main characters get back to her brother who's trapped back on the prison island with all other vampires.
I had a lot of fun with this even though I anticipated a bit more of the story taking place in NYC rather than the vampire island, the Isle. The Isle certainly sounds cool though and is juxtaposed against NYC landmarks with its own so its not a completely new location. I was also a little surprised by the POVs we got! I anticipated a dual POV between Tess and our MMC, Callum, which we do get but we also get POVs from a few other characters that helps round out some of the plot that's occurring across these two realms! I also really enjoyed the little mixed media pieces thrown into the start of each chapter! A bit of the vampire book series, some fan podcast transcripts, undelivered text messages - these were all great additions to bring the atmosphere of the story all together.
This story definitely feeds into some fandom culture, most similarly is probably Buffy. Tess and her best friend are huge fans of the book series and Tess regularly rereads the stories to fill her time and as a comfort. The relationship between Tess and Callum, felt a little lackluster. I think this was the case because we received less time with them when cutting away to others. There was a bit missing there and I wish we got a bit of a longer lead in to their love blossoming.

Fang Fiction is a standalone paranormal romance follow ex-PhD candidate turned hotel manager Tess, as she finds herself draw into a fantastic world when a vampire from her favourite fictional book series asks for her help to free the star villain, trapped on an island. Yet as Tess finds connection with said sexy villain she realizes there is a chance of true happiness...if she can overcome the trauma of her past.
This book was a DNF for me.
First I'll mention the things I did like. I found the representation of trauma to be appropriate - you see how much Tess struggles and the coping mechanism she has made for herself as she avoids seeking therapy. It felt realistic and I truly felt for her. I like the premise and the chaos that came with it. I like the LGBTQ rep with Tess' best friend finding love. with the vampire.
Now, the biggest problem I had was that I just couldn't connect to any one thing. There are so many flipping of past, present, POV, story, interview, blogposts, and more - all with different characters. I need more time to sit with things but it would switch to a new perspective so quickly.
I also struggled with cheesiness of some of the writing and the jumps in logic - for example I still have no idea why this vampire sought out Tess specifically and I honestly didn't feel there was enough convincing to Tess it was a good idea.
I didn't get far enough to check spice. I did read the ending and it did answer some of my big questions and had a cute send off of characters. I just wish I could have read the whole story with the same enjoyment.
Thank you Random House Publishing for this arc

So sad I didn’t enjoy this as much as I had hoped to…
I'm really having no luck with my most anticipated books this year…
I was very hopeful in the beginning of this book, and it felt like it had so much potential, but it ultimately fell short.
It wasn’t awful, and there were lots of interesting bits, but overall I had a hard time connecting with the characters and story because of the multiple POVs, podcast excerpts and book chapters. I honestly contemplated dnfing this several times.
It was, however, an easy read, and the kind of book you could easily read in one evening. I also loved the rom-com style of humour.
Overall, if you love angsty vampire stories that make you feel a bit nostalgic, I would recommend this.
However, make sure to check out the content warnings before reading.
Thank you Netgalley for a digital ARC copy.
All opinions are my own.

This was such an interesting book! First off, the plot was spot on. It clearly tailored to vampire girlies, such as myself. A world where characters from vampire novels are real? And you get to interact with them, fight with them, fall in love with them? That's the dream. The twists and turns kept me intrigued and the vampire lore was well explored. Yes, it cheesy, but that's part of the fun! Secondly, the execution was pretty dang cool. Lots of books contain text or email chats but this one also had podcast transcripts, internet articles, and even excerpts from the book-within-the-book. There were plenty of pop culture references too, such as Buffy and Twilight. Super cool and I definitely recommend this one to the fellow vampire girlies out there.

I am always down for a fun vampire read and that’s exactly what I got! The FMC finds herself trapped on an island among book characters from her favorite Vampire series. And it is up to her to help get them off the island and back to NYC.
Keep in mind there’s also a heavy side in which the FMC goes on a journey of healing following a sexual assault. The author handled this really well and with great compassion.
Sure, there were some cheesy parts but again it was fun to read. There was great character development! The FMC starts off as timid and running away from her feelings to embracing them and finally moving on with her life.
4 stars!!! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tess Rosenbloom, a recent grad school drop out and hotel night manager gets drawn into the world of her favorite book series, Blood Feud. When one of the characters from the book enters her life she jumps at the chance to go on a rescue mission. She soon finds the stories and characters are not all they seem. She must confront the personal evils of her past and the not so fictional demons in the story.
This book was so much fun. It does have some serious moments that were handled extremely well and did not detract at all from my enjoyment. I really loved the world that was created here. I have read a few books recently about a character going into their favorite stories but really felt like how it was done here stood out from the crowd. My biggest complaint was I felt like there was a little too much happening. I would have liked to only follow the love story of Tess and Callum. I think Joni and Octavia could have easily had their own book. All of the characters were entertaining.
I would recommend checking trigger warnings before starting the book. The author does have one at the start of the book which I always find to be a great practice and something that I really appreciate.

I am a major vampire girlie starting way back in my middle school and junior high days when I'd rush home to watch Buffy and Angel, which this author is a huge fan of as well and even based many of the characters off of characters from the show, such as Spike, Cordelia, and, of course, Buffy. I should have enjoyed this book and story more based on this aspect alone, but for whatever reason this book had a disconnect and made this just an okay read instead of a great one for me.
Also, I was so intrigued by the main premise! Who wouldn't want to be dropped into their favorite book, meet all their favorite characters, and become the leading role in their favorite fantasy world??! Unfortunately, there was just something missing for me to be totally wrapped up in this story and I can't quite put my finger on why that is exactly. I think it was multiple small things that lead to the overall book just not quite capturing me. I didn't have a strong urge to keep reading or that hard to put down feeling I was hoping for. I think partly, because Tess and Callum's relationship felt a little too "instalove" for me. There wasn't enough angst or build up that I crave. If I fell more in love with them and their relationship that likely would have helped!
All in all, it was just an okay read for me that had some redeemable qualities, but for the most part, will be forgettable.
**Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an advanced copy of this book and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion. I am posting this review to my Goodreads account immediately and will post it to my Amazon & Instagram accounts upon publication.

Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London was a fun, interesting and entertaining story.
The premise is cute, fun and I totally enjoyed the heck out of this one.
A captivating and humorous slow burn, LGBTQ+ Rep, vampire fandom romance.
Any fan of vampires, romance and spooky lovers will enjoy this book tremendously.
I for one devoured it and thought it was super cute!
Thank You NetGalley and Random House | Dial Press Trade for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Obsessed. I LOVED One to Watch and had the same reading experience with this - it was fun, it was empowering, i couldnt put it down. As someone who has spent a lot of time in fandom spaces, I loved this little nod to that world. And the mixed-media format was really intriguing and executed well. A very fun vampire read for those who aren't into full horror but want to have fun with the season!

If you were a vampire obsessed tween (or young adult) like myself and always wondered what it would be like to be thrown headfirst into the world of your favorite vamps this this is the perfect book to fulfill those dreams. Tess and her bestie Joni built their friendship on free grad school food and a love for their favorite novel, Blood Feud. After Tess has to drop out of school and leave her favorite person, the novels remain her obsession and comfort. Until one day after trying to reconnect with Joni, and things not going to plan, she is approached by one of the characters from said book but her costume looks a little too...real. What follows is a chaotic revealing of another world that Tess is now apart of saving, when she gets tuck her ex-bestie ends up apart of the rescue as well. Both women develop trust with the characters they use to read about but now things are getting real and love is in the air. Great twists and turns along the way made this a fun read with the urban fantasy shenanigans that keep the chaos and story moving forward.
(TW: Discussions of SA) Our dear sweet Tess left her PhD program due to a horrible experience with a fellow student so please check your trigger warnings and take care of your self.

Loved this!
So happy to finally be reading something from Kate again! Other than pacing issues I feel like this is the perfect read for spooky season, for nerds, for people needing something positive to read!

The book incorporates different forms of media in the world allowing you to glimpse the scripts and passages from the book that has drawn the characters in and is reflected in the world around them. You discover that there are people who believe the book could be true and speculate about it in online forums early in the novel. The tension between the characters was introduced at the end of the prologue, creating a hook that kept me intrigued as the world was developed.

Kate is absolutely an auto buy author for me now! Loved One To Watch and even tho this is different it does not disappoint! Definitely worth sinking your teeth into! 😆

I don’t know how to review this book. Part of me found it popcorn fun, but another part found it super young and insta lovey. Then throw in the super dark character trauma (check the cws!) and I’m so confused on my thoughts.

Fang Fiction features Tess, a PHD candidate and devoted fan of Blood Feud, a vampire series. Through a series of events, she learns that the Blood Feud characters are real and needs to travel to the dimension they’ve been locked away in. There, she meets Callum, the bad boy vampire of the series and discovers not everything is true to the book.
This was a fun premise, and felt like an homage to fan fiction stories. I love fan fiction, which is why I requested this as an ARC. The beats of a fan fiction were all present, the AU “they exist in the real world” and the Mary Sue of inserting yourself in your favourite story. I found these, as a nod to the fan fiction world, really cute.
The actual story was a little bit hard to get into. The transcripts of podcasts and buzz feed quizzes were just a little much for me. I liked the first one or two, to get us into the fandom, but then they kept happening when the story was what I wanted. The current pop culture references were also extreme and I think this will very much date the book.
The romance was fine, it felt very instalovey, which would hold true to fan fiction norms, I think. I just wanted more.
Overall, fun and festive for witchy\vampire season.

As a longtime vampire lover, I was so excited for the concept of this novel. What if your favorite vampires from your favorite fantasy series were real? Overall, this book was campy and fun and I enjoyed a lot of aspects of it, including the friendship between Tess and Joni and all of the side characters. The plot development, POVs, and characterization was a bit all over the place, and it was definitely too long. Overall, a fun time!
