Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the pop to read and review this book. Blake Crouch is an author I stumbled upon a few years back and have loved everything he has put out since. I have not had the chance to explore his backlist of books. This is one of his earlier novels and it shows. It wasn’t bad. But it lacks the complexity and depth of more recent books. The overall reason for everything happening is explained with minimal context. Parts just seemed to go on and on. But some parts, the militia and humanity’s disregard for each other, was frighteningly accurate. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t live up to my expectations for this author.

Five days ago, the epidemic of rage began. Four days ago, the rash of senseless murders swept the nation. Three days ago, the president addressed the country and begged for peace—even as the murders increased tenfold. Two days ago, the killers began to mobilize. One day ago, the power went out. And tonight, the killers are reading the names of those to be killed over the Emergency Broadcast System.

Jack Colclough is listening over the battery-powered radio on his kitchen table in Albuquerque, and he just heard his name. People are coming to his house to kill him, his wife, his daughter, and his son. He has no idea what’s happening, or why, but the time for questions is long past. His only chance is to run.

While this is one of Crouch's earlier books, and admittedly isn't quite at the level of his last few, it was still a good read. It was fast-paced, a brilliant premise, and it was pulled off well. As long as you go into this one knowing it's one of his older books, I would highly recommend it. The ending, especially, is well worth it!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!

Another solid book by Crouch. He is at the top of his game and I’m here for the ride.
This was edge of your seat thriller, where things will unfold as they are supposed to not when you want them to.
I love Crouch’s style, and will always pick up a book with his name on it.
Dont miss this one.

I don’t think there is a Blake Crouch book that I didn’t love. Even though this plot has been told many times before, it was fast paced, tense, and made me finish it in less than 24 hours. Knowing this book is a re-release, I was able to recognize so many scenes that also inspired movies and shows over the last decade to pay a nod to this story (e.g. the pit scene is also in Civil War 2024). I would recommend this book to any thriller/dystopian fan. Thanks for allowing me to review this book!

Run is quite a thrill ride! An enjoyable read that keeps the pace going at an unbelievably fast clip, this one had me glued to the page all the way to the bitter end. An apocalyptic story that strains credulity on more than one occasion, this one could have used a bit more fleshing out to make it truly great. I found myself looking for a little more character development, a little more science, just a little more set up please. It was like being thrown straight into the deep end and I think it would have benefited from a smoother entry and more information. Still, I was totally engaged and entertained! It's very gruesome and the action is seamless. A Mad Max-esque story that left me breathless.

Run was a heart racing, action packed apocalyptic set thriller that was just nonstop. It had me on edge the entire time. Crouch has a way of terrifying you while simultaneously entertaining and keeping you invested in the storyline.

We question the essence of humanity and how the will to survive intersects what we’re willing to do for others when our own lives are on the line. This story was brutal but necessary and presumably accurate for such a setting. I did enjoy the ending and the ride.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book!

This book was so good! I really really enjoyed this one. It was so engaging, I read it in 1 go. I couldn't put it down, I just had to know what was going to happen next. It was intense, scary, sad, horrifying, all of the things. The characters were interesting, the story was scarily realistic (no spoilers, you'll see why), and the ending was what i wanted it to be. This was my second book by this author, and definitely won't be my last. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

So... Here are my unfiltered (possibly chaotic) thoughts on this book as I literally just finished it.
** I read this in one sitting and maybe if I spread it out longer and took my time to digest the story, my thoughts may be different.

At first I was very confused but intrigued.
So... I kept reading.
Then I was bored and the plot felt predictable, the characters like cardboard and one-dimensional. When I tell you I wanted to DNF this book 6 times, I am not exaggerating. THEN I shifted my mindset and read this as if it was a second-chance romance with a f*cked up thriller, M. Night Shyamalan (think: The Happening) inspired subplot AND.👏IT.👏WORKED.👏
I cried. I gasped. I cried more and by the end... I simply just tolerated it.

I just love Blake Crouch as an author. When I saw this on NetGalley it was an immediate request. I currently am watching fall out which is a post apocalypse world and this book is in a middle of an apocalypse. I did get confused between the two at times, but overall I loved the family as the main characters and how even in the toughest times the only thing that truly matters is your family. A very gripping thriller.

I made the mistake of starting this book at 11pm. I finished it at 3:30am. I literally couldn't stop.

The premise here was so intriguing to me. Some sort of illness or madness is spreading among the population, turning them into violent, murderous psychopaths. Names and addresses are being read over the radio, telling the "affected" where to go next and which people to kill. The family at the center of this story hears their name and address and flees. And it's pure, adrenaline-filled chaos from there until the end.

The pace is unrelenting, and this is definitely not a book I recommend starting at night because you won't want to sleep until the story resolved. This family goes through unimaginable hardship, pushing themselves further than even seems possible both physically and emotionally. An interesting part of the story is that the married couple in the family have been heading for divorce and it adds a nuanced layer to the plot as we watch them tackle the dynamics of their marriage while dealing with the nightmare they're in.

I found myself thinking of The Walking Dead many times as I read, and if you're a fan of the first few seasons, you'll probably like this book. Trying to survive a world gone mad, while avoiding people trying to kill you everywhere you turn...it has all the same elements.

This wasn't a deep read, but it's perfect if you just want to be totally gripped by an intense story for several hours. The author absolutely knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat.

RUN is a science fiction thriller taking place in the USA. People awake one day to find they're changing, well some of them are and they can tell it. For those who aren't, the nightmare is just beginning. What do you do when everyone looses their morality and empathy?
RUN tells the story of one families journey North across the country to Canada as they try to survive. You are drawn into the characters. You can see how softer they were before. How they become harder to survive in the new country, where they can't call the police for protection, they can't just flick a switch to find warmth, they can't merely walk into the grocery store for food. If they're going to make it to the safety Canada is offering they're going to have to be lucky.

This book was nonstop action from cover to cover. The reader follows a family who is trying to survive in an apocalyptic world. They not only have to survive other people but also fight dehydration and malnourishment.

If you like an intense plot and a crazy survival story, this one is for you!

Thank you to NetGalley, Ballantine Books, and Blake Crouch for this ARC!

I guess I didn’t realize Blake Crouch was rereleasing an old book of his but i knew i had to read it. In typical Crouch form, it is in an “alternate” scientific America. This book reminded me heavily of the emotions of The Road Mixed with The Walking Dead. Book was emotional but also a page turner as you waited for everything to happen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would read it again in a heartbeat!

I received a free advanced copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Terrifying and gripping apocalyptic thriller; reminded me of Bird Box (but with more gore); an underlying theme of a family becoming a family again; pacing was weird and choppy at times, but I was constantly on the edge of my seat- sometimes I seriously couldn't put it down; every time I thought things couldn't possibly get worse for the family, boy was I wrong; such a nail-biter and I loved the creativity in the fight for survival.

Special thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for a DRC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

THIS BOOK WAS TERRIFYING IN THE BEST WAY. I don't like feeling stressed when I read, bit this book stressed me TF out. It was creepy and eerie, but so good. I had stress nightmares.

There also was no "fluff" in this book. Readers were given just enough information to move the story forward, and it was so refreshing.

While this book wasn't gory, per se, I would proceed with caution if you're averse to more graphic murders or a high volume of killings. (To be clear, this was NOT the reason for the nightmares.)

First and foremost, I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishing company for allowing me to read the ARC of this novel. Thank y’all so much.

Even though the book is not published yet, I found my timing of reading and reviewing novel to be insane.(I would just like to say with the recent seeing of the Northern Lights in early May… I was extremely worried that something like the events in this book could happen) I digress.

When a shocking, “light show” sweeps across the lower 48 states… Jack and his family are forced to flea their home as chaos and civil unrest as people are affected with some sort of manic episode.

The story follows Jack, Dee and their children as they run all the way to Canada to escape the chaos.

This story shows the violence against each other brought upon an unknown force and how a family is forced to stay together and do the unimaginable.

4/5 stars. I have read a few of Crouch's novels and enjoyed them all. It was cool to get to read one of his original works and it was a good read.
