I found Tinkerlab charming and fun. It's filled with arts and crafts for younger kids that might fit under the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) umbrella. Build simple machines, make art, and find inspiration for your next activity too. Projects are often open-ended and ecourage kids to think creatively. Like the activities on the author's blog, most of these use everyday items and can fill a half hour or an afternoon.

I read this galley when I grabbed it from Netgalley. We were, at the time, building a STEM cart in the library. This was one of the titles we purchased just for the cart!

This is a beautifully photographed book on activities for children under 5. The book is full of helpful information on setting up a Tinkerlab, explaining supplies needed, and what the activity teaches.

I was drawn to this book because my children love to create things out of our recycling bin - objects that I'd consider trash. I really enjoyed the projects in this book and was reminded that young minds are so much more imaginative than we give them credit for. Tinkerlab is a great starting point for fun projects. But for us, it was also a springboard to making our own Tinker Toys!
