Regency romances are a popular genre in part because they stem from a love Jane Austen and because they bridge the gap between YA and adult fiction. Witty in Pink is one such book.
Told through dual perspectives, the story focuses on Briggs and Blythe. The two have known each other since childhood when Briggs would pull pranks and mercilessly tease Blythe.
Fast-forward a few years and Blythe is fully grown and, with a little effort, fully capable of landing herself a well-to-do husband. And that’s exactly what her parents need her to do. Their finances depend upon it. But Blythe has other plans — a business that could save everything.
Briggs’ future also depends on making money. A lot of money. He needs to marry someone with a sizable dowry if he’s going to save his family’s estate. He’s got just the girl in mind, and he needs Blythe’s help wooing her. In exchange, Briggs will introduce Blythe to all the influential families in the county — people who may be willing to invest in a new venture.
The problem.
There’s much more than animosity brewing beneath the surface.
As with most Regency romances, the basic outcome of Witty in Pink is fairly predictable. The fun, however comes in the details. And there are a bunch of fun twists along the way.
Though author Erica George’s settings are cinematic, it’s the banter she’s created between Briggs and Blythe that really takes the book over the top. It’s what moves the story forward and adds emphasis in all the right places.
Witty in Pink is a slow-burning romance (aka clean) that focuses on the relationship and building attraction. There’s a slightly steamy part, but it’s pretty tame. George’s prose has a more modern feel to it and some situations reflect more modern tastes, but it’s still a lot of fun. This fast-moving novel will appeal to older teen, new adult and adult readers alike.

Witty in Pink can be summed up in one word: Delightful.
It's a light-hearted read that's full of humor and charm. It would be perfect for anyone who wants to test the waters of historical romance.
I wish I could go on about all that I loved about this book. My few words don't do it justice, but I've been hit with covid and it's still throwing punches at me.
All I can say is read this book because you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to see what this wonderful author writes next!

I really enjoyed Witty in Pink. It’s a nice frenemies story that had me doubting at times how these two would end up. The banter between them was just what I was looking for. This was a good slow burn romance that had me hooked from the beginning. If you like historical romance and are a ya reader, I’d recommend this one!

Many, many years ago I started my addiction to romance when I discovered my mom’s stash of historical romances. Yea, those were a LOT more explicit than this one but if you’re new to the scene or you have a teen that’s interested in fresh, clean regency romances, then you NEED this book.
Both main characters had depth and personality and I really enjoyed them both…until the last act when they made ALL the wrong decisions and created so much drama. Ugh. You know 3rd act drama is a peeve of mine and while I adored the HFN, it was heavily dampened by that third act cluster.
The plot was fast-paced and engaging. I really liked the progression from childhood pining to enemies to friends and eventually to lovers. It’s a regency, so there’s lots of family expectations and drama in general. Other than that third act, I really enjoyed this witty and fun little romance!

Now, I normally stay far away from from YA, but I was tempted by this new author, fun plot and historical setting. Friends > Eniemies > Allies + Lovers .... perfect formula. THe childhood rivalry, banter and rivalry felt very realistic. I didn't love the side characters as much in this cast though.

Thank you to Entangled Teen for my advance electronic copy via NetGalley. My opinions are my own.
Hurt feelings and preconceived ideas have made Blythe avoid Briggs Goswick for the past five years. But now they desperately need each other to help their families out of the respective messes they are in: He’s helping her get her business off the ground and she’s helping him get the girl with the money. But the more they spend time together, the more their humanity shows and the harder it is to ignore their growing feelings and their desire to help each other’s family.
I feel that the term “witty banter” has been overused and cheapened. Reader, this one ACTUALLY has witty banter. I also felt the yearning, in a non-angsty, frustrating way. These two kids had to grow up too fast to compensate for their parents’ failings. This one isn’t terribly accurate in terms of what behavior was appropriate for the period, and it’s easy to conflate the then-economic system of marriage with our modern sensibilities of love, but this story is so much fun all the same. It’s about trust and responsibility, about forgiveness and respect, and also about that romantic spark. All that, plus a neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ rep? This one was a win!

I love this authors writing. And Witty in Pink by Erica George was another fantastic romance story!
A great YA historical romance with witty characters and phenomenal writing.
A charming and sweet read that had me hooked instantly.

Witty in Pink is the regency romance I didn't know I needed. It reads like a contemporary piece, with all the wit, grand estates and rules of the ton.
I immediately fell in love with Blythe the fiercely independent young woman who doesn't care to be on the marriage mart, but instead wants to build an apiary business and share all of her knowledge of bees throughout the great houses in the country.
Briggs is a gentleman who has inherited a title from his father who has left him a bit more than he bargained for. Throw in the fact that he is seeing Blythe for the first time in forever and the sparks begin.
The way Blythe and Briggs worked through their past while looking to problem solve both of their futures was so much fun, real and heart wrenching at times. I laughed out loud, came close to tears and swooned so many times throughout this book. I can say it is my favorite period romance I have read. 💖🩷💖

Thank you to Entangled Teen for the ARC and finished copy of Witty in Pink by Erica George. All opinions are my own.
This is my first book by this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ll definitely be reading more by her in the future though because I really liked this book.
Witty in Pink is a fun historical romance set in the early 1800s England. It follows two young adults, Blythe Rowley and Briggs Goswick, that have a past filled with pranks. After one prank went wrong in their early teens, Blythe doesn’t want to have anything to do with Briggs. However, they both quickly learn that the other has something the other needs. That’s when they decide to strike a deal: Blythe will help Briggs secure a match with a wealthy young lady, and Briggs will introduce Blythe to high society members in order to help her secure investors for her apiary business.
I loved the characters in this story. I’ve read quite a few historical romances, but I enjoyed that this book had such young characters just at the beginning of adulthood. The friendships were sweet to see in this book, and I loved how the characters looked out for one another.
The banter between Blythe and Briggs was great, and I appreciated that they didn’t instantly get along after having been against each other for so long. It was sweet however to watch them slowly start to trust each other and become vulnerable with one another.
I also really liked Briggs’ little brother because he was so smart and said such funny things. His relationship with Briggs was so wholesome.
Overall, I really liked this book and would recommend it!

If you miss specifically Bridgertons season 1 and 2 then I am for sure think you would love this. She's a good funny time and can maybe turn my head into liking Regency era a little more this go around.

This book is laugh out loud hilarious! Briggs and Blythe have a chemistry that brings out the mean side in both of them. From when they were kids, until now as adults, they’ve always thrived on that love-hate relationship of playing pranks on one another and being kind of mean. But now they’re grown and realizing their attraction to one another and it’s hard to change their ways.
I adored these characters and their funny moments, from complete awkardness with each other, to saying things in front of crowds that they really shouldn’t be saying but can’t seem to stop themselves. Their chemistry is off the charts, even if they don’t realize it until almost halfway through the story. Blythe is witty, independant and doesn’t want to be held down by the standard customs of marriage and sitting in the drawing room. She loves being outside, setting up her apiaries for bees, and just being herself. Briggs is faced with the looming responsibility of managing the family homestead after his father’s wealth has disappeared.
Both of them are in a predicament and need the other to help them find a way out. But what they both think they want starts to change and they realize that they would be willing to sacrifice it all for the other.
If you enjoy witty banter, hilarious situations and a slow growing attraction, then you’re going to LOVE Witty in Pink as much as I did!

Five wholehearted stars for this YA gem! There was banter and pining and regency drama galore, but also a smart heroine who takes control of her destiny and a hero who is always there to needle her into greatness. There were obvious parallels to Pride and Prejudice, but it also felt (to me) like a reinvented Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables - the smart and feisty heroine and the handsome and clever boy who always liked her and didn't understand how to show it. I loved the minor characters, the dialogue, and I absolutely swooned for the underlying romance. Safe for young-ish YA readers and just a total delight all around! I ordered a copy for my shelf as soon as I finished reading.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and netgalley for the chance to read and review!

Perfect regency era enemies to lovers slow burn perfect cure if you’re loving bridgerton and need something until the new season.

An enjoyable YA historical romance with slight modern twist. A girl with a business idea to save her family and a boy on a mission to marry an heiress.
Childhood memories of teasing and tricks leads to years later great bantering and a partnership.
Overall a good book!

“This time it’s different. This time I’m different. Because of you”
They say “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Blythe has finally come face to face with Briggs Goswick, her very attractive, very elite nemesis, after avoiding him for five years, which makes her summer complicated at the very least. Despite the weight of marriage and saving her family’s name on her shoulders, Blythe has a plan — a business plan — that will save her family from financial ruin. The catch? She needs investors. When Blythe finds out Briggs is broke, she realizes they’re more alike than she thought. Both Blythe and Briggs are trapped in their circumstances and need to figure out how to save their families. When they call a truce and come together, his society connections can help win over investors for Blythe’s business venture and, in return, she promises to help Briggs woo a rich heiress that can solve his financial problems.
As a fan of Bridgerton, I’m not surprised that I really enjoyed this. I don’t typically read regency romance, so this was a first for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly it read, despite the recency-esque language used throughout the entire book. Blythe and Briggs were two characters that had their own motivations and aspirations outside of their relationship together which I really enjoyed seeing. Since YA books are targeted towards teens I think this is a great way to demonstrate healthy romantic relationships and the boundaries that create strong individuals. I could feel their chemistry through their banter and shared experiences, which made the relationship all the more believable. I thought that Blythe’s interest in bees was refreshing and necessary as both a way to make her character stand out and a way to explain exactly why she was going along with her scheme in the first place. On another note, this book had everything I love to look for in a romance: pining and stolen glances. Overall, Witty In Pink is the perfect book for fans of Jane Austen or Bridgerton. I especially think those who consider Eloise Bridgerton their favorite character will enjoy Blythe’s witty humor and her independent nature.

First, I’m not a huge romance reader. I read more romantasy, plus a few romances per year, but something about Witty in Pink caught my interest. I was not disappointed! This is an historical romance that entertains start to finish. There are definitely some miscommunication trope elements at work here, but that works really well for me, because people often avoid saying the complete truth, especially if they’re afraid of being hurt. When you add in the time period, there were ways people were supposed to conduct themselves, and that included minding your tongue. Consequently, there are a lot of moments when things go awry because the protagonists are left with confusion or the wrong impressions.
The story moved at a steady pace and kept me engaged all the way through. It was a very fast read for me, because I was invested in the story and its outcome.
I loved the characters. Now, be warned, it could be slightly spoilerish to read this, because it touches on the character arcs. I’ll avoid specifics, but you should still be aware in case you want to avoid any hint of spoilers.
For me, one of the things that stood out about Briggs was how surprisingly selfless he was. At first, it seems like he’ll be a complete jerk who doesn’t consider others, but as the story progresses, you see his motivations and actions and how he handles the situations that arise, and it makes him quite endearing.
Blythe was very interesting and very much a feminist of her time, determined to stand on her own and not rely on a man, and I respected her for that. She stays true to character start to finish, and was a hero I could root for.
I also love that the author touched on various relationships and had a great supporting cast for this story. Definitely recommended.

Historical women's fiction with a little bit of romance is my description of Witty in Pink by Erica George. It's also a cute & well written young adult audience story set in merry old London back in the early 1800s. During that time frame women had 2 jobs; marry well to advance the families' name/finances & do as their told. The female lead Blythe doesn't quite share that same mind frame, but through years of banter, this enemies to lovers story with the male lead Briggs is hard to put down cause you just wanna read what will happen next between these two characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book on #NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own, but please add this to your TBR list, especially if you enjoy reading about female empowerment & seeing the best in people.

"Witty in Pink" by Lisa Velton Smith is really cute, earning a solid 3.5 stars from me. The cover is absolutely adorable.
This fun YA historical book is filled with excellent banter and a sharp-tongued heroine. Eliza, our FMC, is ahead of her time, dreaming of starting her own business amidst the Regency era's societal expectations. The chemistry and mutual pining between characters make the romance exciting.
The lively and charming cast adds to the joy, making this a quick and enjoyable read. If you're looking for a light-hearted historical romance with Jane Austen vibes, you'll enjoy "Witty in Pink."

“You are everything I never thought I wanted”
Thank you to Entangled Teen and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Witty in Pink is very sweet! A YA regency rom-com filled with angst and clever banter -- I had a lot of fun reading this one and would definitely recommend checking it out!
The characters are charming and so well written. All of the subplots weaved together flawlessly. Witty in Pink even had a bit of an Anne of Green Gables vibe to me (which is my absolute favorite). Blythe is brilliant and not afraid to break the mold to be herself. Briggs spends a lot of time teasing her but you can see his true affections just below the surface. There is tension and chemistry between the two which is so beautifully drawn out. I just loved it!
If you are looking for a quick and lighthearted historical romance then this would be the perfect pick!

I did not know what to expect when going into this book, but I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It felt very much like a YA version of the viscount who loved me which is a good thing as this was one of my favourite Bridgerton books.
Blythe and Briggs’s were endearing and I liked their banter. I also really enjoyed the family dynamics and friendships. I think the characters were well written and well rounded. They actually felt like real people and seemed to come alive on the page.
The plot was good if not a bit predictable (but I think this is more of a genre thing than anything). It was well paced and I read the book in one sitting (which is unusual for me at the moment) and I found it easy to read.
I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet easy read and of course any fans of regency romances.
Overall I’m giving this book 4.25 ⭐️
