This was a pretty compelling story, and I really enjoyed Laura Benanti’s narration. My only issue was that it was a little too long, and got a bit repetitive. Nonetheless, this audiobook was very entertaining, Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

You know those books that you finish in record time and then want to go back and read again just to see if you missed any clues along the way because it’s JUST THAT GOOD? This is that. I don’t typically re-read books but this is the one I will be reading again soon because it was impeccable. The narrator was great, the storyline was great, the twists were amazing, the writing style was perfect. There are literally not enough positive things I can say about this book.

Thank you @macmillan.audio for the ALC copy of House of Glass, a gripping thriller that masterfully blends mystery and psychological drama. It begins with a lie that weaves a golden facade around the Barclay family, concealing a labyrinth of secrets, deceptions, and chilling truths.

Imagine being a young girl who witnesses a murder while your parents are locked in a vicious divorce, living in a house filled with secrets, where everyone claims to want what's best for you—well, almost everyone. Nine-year-old Rose's silence and her peculiar habit of collecting sharp objects following her nanny's suspicious death set an eerie tension that permeates the book. Stella, a best interest attorney with a chilling past, finds her worlds colliding in unexpected ways as she navigates Rose's guardianship.

This thriller has it all:

Enigmatic Characters: Flawed, intriguing, and all potential suspects.

Atmospheric Setting: The Barclay home becomes a character itself, its eerie, glassless construction mirrors the family's fractured and opaque relationships.

Palpable Tension: As Stella uncovers their dark secrets, the tension escalates, and the danger surrounding her grows, hooking me from the first to the last page.

Plot Twists: Just enough redirection to fool you into doubting your instincts, leaving you guessing.

House of Glass explores themes of trust, trauma, and the thin veneer that often separates appearance from reality… its perfect for those looking for their next psychological thriller.

*3.5 stars

A nanny dies and her death is investigated by a best interest attorney, who must determine if the child is safe and who she should reside with. This has an intriguing plot and lots of characters with potential motives for murder. This was not the most outstanding psychological thriller I've read this year, but it was good and definitely a worthwhile read.

Having been a fan of Sarah Pekkanan for a while, I knew I definitely wanted to read her newest. I love the first person point of view, it was easy to follow story. I love the setting of the story, I'm a big fan of stories that center around a domestic setting such as a house. I'm also a fan of when children are the main focus, especially if they are alil sus, aka "creepy kid trope". Another thing I absolutely love in stories is when an outsider is brought in to the home for one reason or another. In this case, Stella, a lawyer was brought in to observe the family and 9 year old Rose. All in all I had a great time, It was right up my alley.

I've been reading books from this author even before she started writing suspense thrillers. This one and the one before it were both just okay. The story was interesting enough to get me to read the whole book, but it doesn't stand out among better books that I have read. Perhaps I don't find the characters compelling enough to care much about them. The narrator wasn't great either. She read the whole book as if the main character was in a constant state of surprise. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

May be more aptly named house of plexi.
Sarah Pekkanen does not disappoint.
You are the only one who can help her. At least, that’s what the judge tells Stella.

Young 9 year old Rose has been through something incredibly traumatic and will no longer speak. Correction. Can no longer speak. Her live in nanny has fallen from the window of her bedroom and died. Her parents are divorcing and there’s a disagreement over the custody of 9 year old Rose. The case of how the Nanny died has gone cold and until a new lead comes forth, it will remain unsolved. In the meantime, Stella must help the court decide who should retain custody of Rose. Can she make this decision without the case being solved?

This was so so so good! Thank you for the ARC @netgalley, @sarahpekkanen, @stmartinspress

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

A dark, psychological story of an attorney tasked to determine what is best regarding a young girl’s custody with her parents impending divorce. When Stella arrives at the house to begin her evaluation, she finds a family in crisis following the suspicious death of the nanny. There are the battling parents, the grandmother, the young girl deeply traumatized and disturbed who collects sharp objects, and a creepy old house completely devoid of glass.

Not only does Stella have to complete her custody evaluation, but she also becomes embroiled in solving the death of the nanny who had fallen out of the third floor window.

Full of twists, turns, secrets, lies this story has it all.

3.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed The Golden Couple so I was so excited to read this book! It was super fast paced with short chapters, which I love. It also kept me really hooked all the way to the end. However, I felt like some of the events that happened towards the end were a little random and unrealistic. I did still really enjoy this book and will read more from Sarah Pekkanen in the future!

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me an ARC 💛

A satisfying and spooky mix of psychological thriller and murder mystery, with a good brain and heart

An enjoyable book that will have you on the edge of your seat, trying to guess who the killer is, right up until the end. The author does a great job making you bond with the characters, and wrapping up the little mysteries you e discovered along the way. I especially like how neatly tied with a bow the conclusion was and can say I was happy with the ending.

"House of Glass" is a gripping thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning pages to uncover its secrets. This electrifying story follows Stella, a newly appointed Guardian Ad Litem (Attorney) for Rose, a young girl suffering from traumatic mutism. As Stella delves into Rose's complex family dynamics, the plot thickens with shocking twists and dark secrets.

Rose’s father stands accused of an affair with the nanny, who has mysteriously turned up dead. Now, amidst a bitter divorce, the question looms: did Rose kill the nanny, or is the culprit someone closer than expected? Stella's encounters with Rose are filled with tension and raw emotion as she tries to unravel the mystery and determine which parent deserves custody. The suspense is palpable as the narrative dives into the lengths parents will go to hide their truths and protect their fragile world inside the House of Glass.

Every character is a potential suspect in this tantalizing whodunnit, making for a rollercoaster of suspicion and revelation. While the writing can be overly descriptive at times, complicating the dialogue, it doesn’t detract from the relentless pace and heart-pounding moments that define this psychological thriller.

Thanks to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for the audiobook. "House of Glass" is a must-read for anyone who loves a story that keeps you guessing until the very end.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #MacMillanAudio #MacAudio2024 for the book #HouseofGlass by #SarahPekkanen. This book is drama, murder and lies and I absolutely loved it! Stella is a best interest lawyer and is assigned to a divorce case in lieu of a 9 year old girl, Rose. But recently there was a nanny that died on their premises. Stella starts looking into things because they are all acting strange and Rose hasn’t spoke since it happened. Can Stella figure this out? Is Rose responsible?

First experience with this author and it was a solid book for sure. A good amount of mystery and suspense without being so scary that I have nightmares. There was a point in the book where I was expecting a supernatural turn so I love pekkanens ability to keep me guessing as a more experienced thriller genre reader. I listened to the audio version and the production did a wonderful job of building this story.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan for an ARC of House of Glass!

This was a very entertaining whodunnit with many twists and turns. Once I got into the story it was definitely hard to put down, and the quick pace made for a fun read.

The final twist really surprised me, but with that said, I felt like many of the twists were predictable.

Overall, an entertaining read!

my very first audiobook ARC! and what a fun one.

let me start by giving kudos to this author for having a main character who is a best interest attorney/guardian ad litem. it was so refreshing to have an FMC with a career not typically seen in books. i love a good detective novel, but it gets tiresome reading the same few professions in books. this was a much appreciated change of pace that i really enjoyed!

stella has a unique opportunity to be appointed as rose’s BIA, a young girl suffering from traumatic mutism after witnessing the possible murder of her nanny. we see some *questionable* behavior from rose as well as each member of her family, leaving us guessing how tina really fell from the third story window. everyone in the barclay family is a suspect, had motive, and are actively working to deceive stella. throughout the chaos of rose’s story, we also learn about stella’s complicated past and the childhood trauma she endured of losing both her father and mother at a young age. she is reconciling that loss parallel to the barclays’ unfolding, leaving the reader with all the sensations of unease and dying to know the answers.

i have to say that this was such a well-rounded ending. after the crescendo of finding out the “whodunit” aspect of the book, we were able to stay with stella for multiple chapters and have all areas of her life wrapped up with a cute little bow! it was so satisfying. i kept thinking the book was over and then we would get another chapter that gave us even more. my main critique of this was that she forgave WAY TOO EASILY! if we wanted true horror, there would have been more sinister implications in that major deception.

many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Sarah Pekkanen for sending this ARC!

This thriller was easy to get through but I didn’t think it was anything special. The plot was intriguing and kept me engaged. I did enjoy Stella as the narrator and her determination to protect Rose. There were part of the story that felt redundant and drawn out. Overall this was a good thriller if you are looking for a quick read.

I enjoyed Laura Benanti as the narrator and liked listening to this audiobook!
