Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan for an ARC of House of Glass!
This was a very entertaining whodunnit with many twists and turns. Once I got into the story it was definitely hard to put down, and the quick pace made for a fun read.
The final twist really surprised me, but with that said, I felt like many of the twists were predictable.
Overall, an entertaining read!

my very first audiobook ARC! and what a fun one.
let me start by giving kudos to this author for having a main character who is a best interest attorney/guardian ad litem. it was so refreshing to have an FMC with a career not typically seen in books. i love a good detective novel, but it gets tiresome reading the same few professions in books. this was a much appreciated change of pace that i really enjoyed!
stella has a unique opportunity to be appointed as rose’s BIA, a young girl suffering from traumatic mutism after witnessing the possible murder of her nanny. we see some *questionable* behavior from rose as well as each member of her family, leaving us guessing how tina really fell from the third story window. everyone in the barclay family is a suspect, had motive, and are actively working to deceive stella. throughout the chaos of rose’s story, we also learn about stella’s complicated past and the childhood trauma she endured of losing both her father and mother at a young age. she is reconciling that loss parallel to the barclays’ unfolding, leaving the reader with all the sensations of unease and dying to know the answers.
i have to say that this was such a well-rounded ending. after the crescendo of finding out the “whodunit” aspect of the book, we were able to stay with stella for multiple chapters and have all areas of her life wrapped up with a cute little bow! it was so satisfying. i kept thinking the book was over and then we would get another chapter that gave us even more. my main critique of this was that she forgave WAY TOO EASILY! if we wanted true horror, there would have been more sinister implications in that major deception.
many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Sarah Pekkanen for sending this ARC!

Thank you Macmillan and NetGalley for this advance readers audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review.
House of Glass is a family drama filled with suspense and twists. A family that appears perfect on the outside is suddenly in crisis when their nanny mysteriously falls to her death from the window of their home. During the impending divorce case. Stella is assigned to be their daughter, Rose’s, attorney. While addressing her own childhood trauma she investigates what is in the best interest of Rose.

This thriller was easy to get through but I didn’t think it was anything special. The plot was intriguing and kept me engaged. I did enjoy Stella as the narrator and her determination to protect Rose. There were part of the story that felt redundant and drawn out. Overall this was a good thriller if you are looking for a quick read.
I enjoyed Laura Benanti as the narrator and liked listening to this audiobook!

𝗔 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵. 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱?𝗔 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸.𝗔 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴.
This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and it did not disappoint. Sarah tells a classic whodunit tale with creepy sinister characters that will keep you guessing. She made excellent use of her characters, taking you down uncertain paths, not knowing who to trust. The book was full of misdirection, and I loved that I couldn't trust my own opinions and suspicions.
I loved Rose, the creepy child. This character was so well developed and portrayed the evil child so well that my opinions of her constantly changed
And, let's not forget the foreboding, glassless mansion with it's ever present underlying tone of unease.
I couldn't stop listening to this story. The concept was intriguing. The pacing was great, and the build-up to the finale was packed with tension inducing moments. The narration was perfection and performed by Laura Benanti. She brought the whole story to life.
My only drawback was that there were two many subplots. They were unnecessary and distracting, taking the focus away from the main mystery line.
But it doesn't take away from how great this book is.
I definitely recommend!

Rose is nine years old and suffers from traumatic mutism as a result of witnessing the death of her nanny Tina, in the midst of her parents acrimonious divorce.
Stella is a best interest attorney who represents the children in custody cases. She usually refuses to take on cases of children under 13 because of her own traumatic past-she also suffered from traumatic mutism as a child which makes her the best person to try and reach Rose and determine who is the best parent to be awarded custody.
But there are details surrounding Tina’s fall that make the police have doubt about whether or not it was an accident that makes everyone a suspect, even Harriet, Rose’s handicapped grandmother who lives with them. The Barclays have removed all the glass from the house after the fall after the discover that Rose has started sneakily collected sharp objects and hiding them. But even more troubling is why the Barclays are so hesitant to allow Stella to spend time alone with Rose.
I really enjoyed that this didn’t go overt the too with crazy twists and the resolution was satisfying. There’s not an overwhelming amount of characters to have to keep up with and they were developed enough that you could get to know them and the plot was original! Hallelujah!!
Thanks to Macmillan Audio for this ALC in exchange for my review.

I found myself really into this at first but by the end it just didn't hold the same thrill factor. It was giving me Turn of the Key vibes but the ending was not as shocking or as satisfying. I like the premise but I don't feel like enough time was spent with the family in question. A lot of it was about Stella and her background instead. I enjoyed the narrator.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and listen an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love thrillers and this did not disappoint. I have read others of this authors books and I will sure read more from her in the future.
The story is both creepy and suspenseful and the narrator did an excellent job.
4/5

Like every other Srah Pekkanen novel, this was a DELICIOUS read. Wonderfully creepy and atmospheric. Intelligent plot, great ending. I was hooked until the very last word!

In the midst of a bitter divorce between Rose's parents, the young girl who is only nine years old, is dealing with a traumatic event—the death of her nanny, Tina, which she witnessed firsthand. This event has rendered her unable to speak, leaving her with only stoicism and occasional dismissiveness as means of expression. Rose's grandmother, piano lessons, and Chinese calligraphy lessons are the constants in her life, providing some level of stability.
Stella, a BI attorney assigned to the case, must navigate the complexities of determining the best parental arrangement for Rose. As the divorce becomes increasingly acrimonious, Stella's demeanor shifts from shy to cold, raising concerns about her ability to protect Rose from potential danger.
The story is skillfully narrated with each character's voice distinct, allowing the listener to identify the speaker and understand Rose's perspective despite her mutism. The narrator's excellent performance enhances the story, making it a captivating listen for this wonderful thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced e-audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

When Attorney Stella Hudson receives a case about a child going mute after a traumatic event it hits close to home. Stella also went mute as a child following her own traumatic upbringing. Rose Barclay, only 8 years old has nothing to say following the shocking death of her nanny. Stella quickly sees there is more than meets the eye in the Barclay home. Something is definitely not as idyllic as it is being portrayed and everyone seems to have a motive for wanting the nanny dead, even Rose.
I thought this was so well written and loved the suspense built upon each character. It is great for those that enjoy being unsure of what is going on until the very end.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to rate and review the book. All opinions are my own.

I'm not a giant thriller reader, but I do enjoy them from time to time. House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen provided enough character development, twists, and turns to keep me interested. I actually requested the audiobook of this thriller from Net Galley due to the narration by Laura Benanti. She did a great job of the various character voices, but I did find the voice of Stella, the main character, to be a little breathless and somewhat annoying. There were no big shocks and I did see most of the twists coming, but it was entertaining, none the less.
Many thanks to Net Galley for providing the audio.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen will be released on August 13th, 2024.
Normally I am immediately hooked by any book that includes this author - but House of Glass just didn't hit the way that her books usually do. I'm not going to say the book was bad because it wasn't. The story, the concept, the writing: it was all great and I can't really pinpoint my exact issue other than I just didn't connect to the characters, but that could also be because I was in a bit of a reading slump and had other things going on in my life that took priority. I found myself struggling to keep focus on the story until about 75% of the way through, and then it was like her other books.
Rating this book is hard. I would definitely recommend the book.

Thank you so much to netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!
I liked the audiobook for this one. The narrator was good and I liked her voice. It was an easy listen.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the book itself. I found the characters hard to relate to and just annoying. I don't feel like the twists were all that original and I just didn't care about the outcome.
I will be giving this one 3 stars since I liked the audiobook but not the story itself.

This was such a fun and easy read! The book grips you from the very first chapter. The premise is a classic whodunnit!
•Unsolved murder: ☑️
•All of the characters seem sinister: ☑️
•The majority of the story takes place in a creepy and unsettling mansion: ☑️
•The main character has a traumatic past that ties her into the current mystery at hand: ☑️
•Not all is as it seems: ☑️
All the pieces are there and lead to an unputdownable experience. I highly recommend picking this one up for the entertainment value alone!

I absolutely devoured this book in two days! It took me wholly by surprise. Honestly, I went in expecting a popcorn thriller that I’d enjoy but not remember, and instead I got this gem of a five-star read. I was totally hooked on this story. The psychological suspense was so gripping, with a shocking conclusion of events. It has creepy atmosphere, untrustworthy characters, easily absorbed writing. The pacing kept me turning the pages and unable to stop. A definite must-read thriller of the year! If you’re looking for an immersive, nail-biter read, this is the one. The narrator did a perfect job of capturing the voice of the character and the tone of the story.

A great solo title by this author. I really enjoyed the family complexities and complications that seemed natural to preventing the protagonist and reader from figuring out the truth. Great subplot as well.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a gripping mystery novel packed full of trust, deception, and survival. Stella Hudson is a young lawyer appointed to serve as counsel for children in custody cases. She determines their best interest.
The Barclays prove to be the ideal couple on the outside but on the inside lies simmer beneath the surface of an already tainted marriage. When their young nanny, Tina falls to her death their nine year old daughter Rose begins collecting sharp objects and becomes mute. Stella is brought in to help determine what really happened. From the moment Stella enters the Barclays house, she can sense things are eerily amiss. It's a plastic house with not a shard of glass to be found. Stella senses the Barclays are desperate to hide their secrets and fears they will go to any lengths to do so. As danger wraps around the house Stella has little time to figure out the truth, who killed Tina?
This title will be released on August 6, 2024. Be sure to grab this one if you are looking for a fresh new gripping thriller!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

House of Glass - ARC
By: Sarah Pekkanen
Genre: Thriller
Format: Audiobook, ebook
Publication Date: August 6, 2024
✨ I found House of Glass to be a fun, fast read and a relatively hard to put down thriller. I read it in just a few short days.
✨ I immediately compared this to The Silent Patient. The main difference is that a kid is experiencing traumatic mutism and not an adult like in TSP. To complicate matters, the father had a known affair with the nanny who ended up dead at their family home, a death likely witnessed by Rose, but still unsolved.
✨ The main character, Stella Hudson, is the lawyer appointed to represent the child, Rose, as her very wealthy parents go through a disagreeable divorce and custody battle. Stella also experienced traumatic mutism as a small child from when her mom died in the same apartment as her. As such, she is one of the few who may understand and be able to connect with the child and is convinced by a dear friend and mentor to take on the challenging case due to her personal connection and circumstances.
✨ Altogether, this does make for a rather interesting and forward-moving story. The characters all carry a certain level of intrigue and you can plausibly predict a number of different endings. I do love trying my hand at thriller predictions and twists!
✨ To that point, it wasn’t as big of a twist as I would have liked, but it was a satisfying ending nonetheless and probably the one that makes the most sense for the story.
✨ Thank you to Sarah Pekkanen, @Netgalley @macmillan audio and Macmillan for providing me with access to this e-ARC.
✨ I will definitely read more of Sarah Pekkanen’s books after this!

So many secrets.
What one wouldn’t do for money and comfort…Money isn’t the issue here. It is the love of money and luxury that is the downfall of any person. It’s the innate desire of every single one of us.
Stella takes on a case as “Guardian ad litem” for a 9 year old girl, named Rose. This little girl doesn’t speak after seeing her nanny crash through a window on one of the upper floors in her house. There’s a mystery surrounding the death as to who did it. During this time, Stella confronts her past. What she once believed to be true is completely turned upside down.
This story is creepy at times and suspenseful. I questioned every character’s motive and what they would gain or lose. When the dots finally connected, I realized it was all in there to begin with (why didn’t I see it?).
The narrative was voiced by Laura Benanti. I think it was done well and she captured the emotional entanglement of each character. 5/5 stars.
I love a good mystery.
