This is an exciting and original story that moves along quickly. Constant changes in narrative voice rather than being confusing enhance the story by allowing the readers to see things from different points of view. It also ramps up the tension and makes the book even more exciting.
The intensity is ratcheted up even more in the later part of the book when you learn who did what and why. At this point of the story, the author switches solely to narration by the antagonist providing a unique and interesting perspective. Plus, there are still more exciting twists and revelations yet to come.
Disappointingly. one major part of the conclusion to the mystery is somewhat hokey and unrealistic and feels like something out of a soap opera. Plus, the very last part of the book seems unnecessary. Despite these things, this is still a fun and engaging read.

This story was beyond twisted. The twists had twists coming off of their twists! Readers should be warned about whiplash and reminded what assumptions do. The only thing that I didn’t like was the constantly shifting narrators. I kept having to go remind myself whose pov I was getting. That kept pulling me out of the story. Needless to say, I’d really like a sequel where a certain character gets their comeuppance! (Can’t say who but when you read the book I am sure you will agree! Maybe I should write some revengeful fan fiction?)

The Business Trip is a fantastic debut by new-to-fiction author Jessie Garcia with twists and turns from start to finish. I binged this book in about a day- I just could not put it down. If you listen to audiobooks, I highly recommend the audio version of this book- each character is voiced by a different narrator, an effect that really brings the story to life. I also recommend going into The Business Trip as blind as possible. This was such a clever story and I look forward to reading more from Garcia! The Business Trip gets 4.25 stars from me. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and MacMillan Audio for inviting me to review The Business Trip, which is available everywhere on January 14, 2025.

Holy unlikable characters Batman! Everyone in this story is deplorable and obnoxious. That said, I really enjoyed the originality and was surprised by the twists. Maybe a little implausible that the characters were actually able to pull off what they did, but check your logic at the door because I thought it was a fun read!

I really enjoyed this book! It was fast-paced and unpredictable, and I did not see that twist at the end coming!
I can't believe this is a debut book! This book was done and executed so well! It is jaw-dropping and heart-throbbing! I felt that Garcia did a great job building up the storyline that when the climax hit, I was in shock!
I highly recommend this book, especially on audio, as there are multiple narrators!
Read if you like:
-Fast-paced thrillers
-Unpredictable twists
-Multiple POVs
-Page turning suspense
Thank you, @macmillan.audio and @netgalley, for my #gifted copy.

Excellent debut! This is jaw dropping, heart-throbbing and riveting! I couldn’t put it down! I thought I knew what was happening and DID not!

The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s been a long time since I have read a suspense/thriller genre book, I have been safely sticking to my romance world! So, I decided to try something different this year.
This book by Jessie is a pretty good debut, as far as I can say. The writing style was pretty different for me - there’s multiple POVs across the different chapters and the story smartly moves ahead (and sometimes back in time) through these POVs! So you get to know the three main protagonists from different perspectives.
The main question for a suspense book review - how soon was I able to guess the plot? I would say I was well engaged and in pace with the turning points. I didn’t guess too much too soon! I quite enjoyed the ending, it did manage to surprise me 😊
Only thing I can pick on is, maybe it could have been a tad bit shorter, especially Trent’s POVs (iykyk - you would loathe him too)!
Thanks once again to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advanced copy. The book releases on 14th January, 2025!
P.S. I would be posting this to my bookstagram (@booklover_swii) between 10th-14th Jan.

What did I just read? Oh wow that was a crazy story. I didn't know what was happening about 50% of the book. I had to pick up my jaw off the ground at the end.
Jessie Garcia did the twists and turns like a top thriller author. It is hard to believe that this is her debut novel. I can't wait for her next book. Excellent!

The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia is a wild ride! This book grips you pretty quickly and then just when you think you have an idea about where the story is going, it twists and turns. And then you don’t want to stop reading…I just kept saying to myself, “What just happened?!”
Two women end up on the same flight to Denver for different reasons and then their lives become intertwined…but how? How does a professional business woman follow a man she just met home from a conference? What happened to the waitress running from her past? How do their personal belongings end up in Atlanta?
Great thriller! Couldn’t put it down!

I listened to this one on audiobook. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted e-copy.
This audiobook was narrated by a full cast, and I really liked it. A lot. I flew through this book; there were a lot of twists and turns, and I guessed some but not all. While I enjoyed it, some parts seemed just a bit too unhinged 🤣😅

Thanks to St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia.
I'm not going to share much because there were a few great twists here that completely took me by surprise! I didn't want to stop listening!
When two women who have nothing in common besides sitting next to each other on a plane disappear, the only link is that they both texted their friends the same message about meeting a man.
I loved the different narrators and they helped bring the story together -- I high recommend listening to The Business Trip! This was a debut by Jessie Garcia and I look forward to reading more of her books!

This debut mystery/thriller—authored by a television news director, who has written nonfiction previously—requires a fair amount of willingness to suspend disbelief. That's one of the beauties of fiction, though, isn't it? It doesn't have to stick to reason—it can be as imaginative as the writer wants.
From the beginning, you might want to make a relationship chart to keep track of the connections between friends, family, coworkers, and strangers. Content warnings abound, including domestic abuse, gaslighting, murder, and theft (including identity).
One of the male characters makes reference to his fraternity experience at the University of Illinois, and he fits the stereotypical negative frat boy persona.
The shit really starts to hit the fan around 91%, with a significant plot twist in the next chapter. To me, the weird ending leaves too much up in the air, but the last line is perfect. Do not, under any circumstances, jump ahead—it will ruin everything. Really. In fact, don't even read a bunch of reviews before digging in, for fear of having the fun spoiled. If you are an avid murder mystery/thriller reader, give this book a shot.
The Business Trip really kept me on the hook—I didn't want to put it down. I will certainly consider reading Garcia's subsequent fiction.

One of the reviews for this novel said it best…. This book was brilliantly clever. Told from multiple points of view (which can either make the story hard to ready or add to the story), this story kept me guessing the whole time. When Stephanie and Jasmine meet on a flight to Denver it seemed like fate to Jasmine. Both women dealing with unhappiness with their situations and one will see their meeting as an opportunity to change her fate.
I loved all the twists and turns this book took and how you end up rooting for the very individuals that you also dislike. This book was very well written and kept me engaged the whole book.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC of The Business Trip in exchange for an honest review.
I am always excited to try out a debut author! The Business Trip was a quick listen and it moved along pretty seamlessly. I am not sure if I would've had the same experience in print form, but the narrator was great and easy to listen to. In my opinion, this is a good palate cleanser after a heavy book but if you a person that gets irate at an author with unbelievable story lines or outcomes maybe give Ms. Garcia some more time in the literary world as this was a "fun" read.

Whoa! I didn't see that twist coming! I love a story that keeps me guessing and this one did that. So many twists and turns. One woman is running from an abusive relationship, another is on a business trip. They meet on a plane. What happens next...yeah, read the book and prepare to have your mind blown. If you love a mystery/thriller/psychological whodunit, this one should be at the top of your list for this year!

This book was a page turner for me!
Two women board a flight, one for a business trip and one escaping an abusive relationship- they both message their close friends saying they met the same man and then they both disappear!
This book is told in multiple POVs, from the two women to friends and to the man they get involved in. I couldn’t figure out the end and I each chapter left me wanting more.
The ending? I was absolutely surprised by! Kind of far fetched but I enjoyed it.
A definite recommend to those that enjoy a good thriller/suspense/mystery!
I bet this would be great as an audio!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author Jessie Garcia and the publisher for this ARC

It is hard to believe this book is a debut. I had a fun time reading it. It is a fast paced thriller. It did get a bit repetitive in the middle. I liked the multiple perspectives. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this arc.

Great page turner. I really enjoyed this thriller. It kept me guessing. Audio was full cast which is always a treat. I liked the characters and the twists since it wasn't so far fetched.

The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia is a gripping, page-turning debut that combines psychological twists with layered storytelling. The novel follows Stephanie, a businesswoman on a trip, and Jasmine, fleeing an abusive relationship. Though strangers, their lives converge in chilling ways when both send identical, increasingly erratic texts about the same man—Trent McCarthy—before vanishing without a trace. I read this on vacation, and it was hard to put down. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end.
Jessie Garcia masterfully builds tension with twist upon twist, leaving readers questioning every character’s motives. The dual perspectives of Stephanie and Jasmine are compelling, and the unraveling of Trent McCarthy’s role keeps the pages turning. While some twists felt slightly over-the-top, the novel’s pacing and psychological depth made it hard to put down.
This is a solid 4-star read for fans of suspenseful thrillers with unpredictable plots. Garcia’s debut establishes her as a writer to watch, and I can’t wait to see what she delivers next.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for my free review copy.

I don't read too many thrillers these days but this one caught my eye. This is a multi-POV story and that makes it incredibly fast-paced. I highly enjoyed the plot twists, as I didn't see all of them coming and I love to successfully guess plot twists as I read. This was a fun read for me!
