This started out pretty well and has a multi-layered cast of characters. Hard to keep track of everything going on though. I lost interest mid-way through however and did not finish.

This was a new author to me . I found the book interesting. It could have shorter as it dragged on.

This book was so good! I could not put it down and enjoyed every moment. From the first page, there was the best kind of tension and it never let go until the very end. On top of that, the twists and turns in the story were a constant surprise and the culmination at the end was something I never saw coming! I've already recommended this book to three people and will continue to do so. This is probably one of the best thriller books I've ever read!

Jasmine, escaping boyfriend, and Stephanie, on business trip, sit on plane together. Jasmine decides to take on Stephanie’s life. Big unexpected twist at end of book. Very good psycho suspense. Not too graphic or horror.

This was really confusing, in a fun way. Like trying to get through a maze and finding turns and dead ends everywhere. But when you get to the surprise ending is worth it.

This book was so good from the first page all the way until the end! Kept me guessing throughout and I really liked the different perspective's throughout. The characters were very well written and the mystery unraveled so well. Will definitely be reading more.

I really liked this debut. At the beginning I thought it would just be from the viewpoints of the two women, but it ended up being written in several viewpoints. I like how the story was built up from each angle. There were twists you can't possibly guess. I would recommend to anyone who loves a good twist.

Unfortunately this book was just not for me! The premise really drew me in but I was not immediately hooked or interested in either of the main characters.

It has been a long time since I rated a 5 star book. What a page turner. The best part about the book is the relatability of Jasmine...down on her luck and looking for better sometimes at a cost the person cannot see. Definitely going to look for more written by Jessie

The Business Trip wonderful debut thriller that kept me glued to the book. Two women who don't know each other are on the same flight. Texts are sent to their friends. Puzzling things happen.
There are so many characters who have their own chapter. I usually get confused with many character, however this author did an excellent job of writing, and I was able to keep each one straight in my mind. There were couple places where I went "huh?" but soon these were explained.
The ending was very satisfying! I hope Jessie Garcia writes another one soon!

The Business Trip by debut author J. Garcia, published by St. Martin's Press, is a twisty tthriller.
A twisted tale, a story full of lies deceit, betrayal and in the end I didn't who was the villain and who was the victim.
Blurb: Stephanie and Jasmine have nothing and everything in common. The two women don’t know each other but are on the same plane. Stephanie is on a business trip and Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship. After a few days, they text their friends the same exact messages about the same man—the messages becoming stranger and more erratic.
And then the two women vanish. The texts go silent, the red flags go up, and the panic sets in. When Stephanie and Jasmine are each declared missing and in danger, it begs the questions: Who is Trent McCarthy? What did he do to these women— or what did they do to him?

This was fantastic. I really enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to put it down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!

This book exceeded my expectations. I love good twists in my stories and this didn't disappoint. I'll be looking for more from this author.

Well, this book is definitely unique and can definitely happen in today’s world. With that said it was a multiple POVs dramatic thriller. It started out ok but the middle became very repetitive and boring along with all of the characters. Definitely wanted to finish to see how it all played out. The ending isn’t what I expected in a good way. Thank you to Netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A fast paced thriller about doppelgangers

Gosh I really hate being this person but I could not stand this one. The changes in characters, the completely different storylines and honestly juvenile writing unfortunately had me DNF at about 25%

The Business Trip is a suspense thriller about two women looking to escape their lives for different reasons. The story takes a twisty turn at the end...Where nothing is what it seems.
Jasmine is fleeing from an abusive relationship, while the other, Stephanie, simply wants some time for herself. I want to sympathize with Jasmine she hasn't had a good life. but She constantly resents others' success and complains about the difficulty of her own life. Eventually, she takes Stephanie's life and assumes her identity. Despite the well-written scenes with some humor, I was disappointed by the death of an innocent character. I couldn't help but wonder about everything that Jasmine did to get away why not just kill her abuser, instead of resorting to extreme measures...I mean, she has killed before, right?
I want to express my gratitude to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the eARC.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the eARC.
The book started out ok, but the further I got into it, the less I enjoyed it. There were lot of different characters and their pov's and I only liked a few of them. It went on too long, the writing was so-so and the whole story was too over the top for me. Sorry!

I loved the cover and title and also with the synopsis this sounded like a great read. Boy, was I mistaken! The first third of the novel was intriguing even though there were a lot of characters to keep straight. Then things started to collapse. The main character, Jasmine, was just so unlikable in her envy of people better off than herself and the constant mentioning of her bad childhood. As the book picks up steam so does the convoluted far-fetched happenings increase. Deus ex machina over and over gain. By the time the ending rolled around the author felt the need to insert such an improbable twist that she even exceeded my low expectations. I even began to feel sorry for Jasmine trapped forever in the workings of this novel.

Summary: Stephanie is the manager of a newsroom with a large group of staff reporting to her. She is accomplished, beautiful and successful. Jasmine’s life has always been a struggle. She was an unwanted third child raised in poverty and hardship with no formal secondary education. She works low wage jobs to get by and is now fleeing an abusive and controlling man who will kill her if he catches up with her. The two women sit next to each other on a flight and Jasmine sees a golden opportunity. Trent McCarthy is a middle-aged divorced newsroom manager on his way to the same conference Stephanie is attending. Trent is a blowhard, full of self-importance and braggadocio, and perpetually looking for a willing woman to sleep with him. Their lives are going to intersect in a newsworthy way.
Thoughts: The Business Trip is a tense psychological thriller with multiple perspectives and quick chapters. There are a number of characters introduced which requires attentiveness from the reader to keep them all straight. The frequent change of perspective creates a sense of events moving quickly and a swirl of intrigue around Stephanie which grips the reader. The tension builds to a showdown in Mexico which I read with bated breath.
I am unable to reveal much as I don’t wish to give spoilers. I will only say that the conclusion to all the tension was not believable for me. I was quite disappointed in the concluding chapters which were not as well-written as the rest of the novel, and felt rather disjointed. I actually wondered if several different endings had been written and then one selected or substituted. It is too bad because I had been quite immersed in the book to that point.
Thriller fans will enjoy this one and I would be interested in reading other reactions to it. Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for the copy to read.
