"The Wedding Witch" by Erin Sterling is if "Back to the Future" was centered around a grumpy male witch and sunshine-y artifacts dealer around Christmas time. This book was a fun mix of fall, Halloween vibes and a Christmas tale. It follows the continuation of the Penhallow brothers specifically Bowen Penhallow, and Tamsyn Bligh.
Bowen Penhallow has always been a bit of a loner. He preferred his life in the countryside of Wales, studying magic and relics. He finds himself in need of someone to track these items down for him. In walks Tamsyn Bligh. Even though she is not a witch, she makes her living retrieving items for them. Bowen and Tamsyn become friends with just a smidge of tension between the two.
Bowen is approached by the spirit of his friend, Declan, to attend a Yuletide wedding at a large estate, Tywyll House in the Welsh countryside. He can not say no his his friend so he agrees. Although he is not expecting to see Tamsyn walking down the stairs his first night there. Tamsyn finds herself at Tywyll House in search of an artifact that would set her up for life. While the two are there, a strong spell and little mistake send them back to 1957. They must find a way to return home while discovering secrets about the estate and facing the fact that they may be falling in love.
While this was a funny, lighthearted story, I did find it selling short from the previous books in "The Ex Hex" series. It was a fast paced book...so much so we really didn't see the evolvement of Bowen and Tamsyn's friendship, let alone the romantic aspect. It felt rushed and like they were in fact feeling more lust than love. As for the actual plot, it was interesting and played out like a fun holiday movie. The mix of fall and winter vibes was a different feel than one would expect, but it works in a way. I will say it did seem more like a Christmas book, since that is when the actual story takes place. Overall the story was fun but it did feel a bit underwhelming from the description and in comparison to the previous stories.

I'm completely enchanted by yet another delightful romance featuring one of the charismatic Penhallow brothers, whisking us away on a brief visit to the magical world of Graves Glen! This book stands out with its haunted house setting, blending elements from 'Back to the Future,' 'The Time Machine,' and 'Doctor Who,' as it revolves around changing the past to save the future.
The spotlight is on Bowen, the eccentric Penhallow sibling with a perfect beard. He enlists the help of Tamsyn Bligh, a stunning and carefree expert in acquiring magical items. Despite a prior mishap involving Tamsyn's brother, Rhys, where a cursed candle nearly put Rhys and Vivienne in danger, Bowen chooses to collaborate with her. Even though their mistletoe kiss left him confused and Tamsyn declared that mixing business with pleasure wasn’t an option, they reluctantly continue working together to hunt down enchanted objects.
While Bowen is celebrating Christmas with the expansive Penhallow family in Graves Glen, Tamsyn, feeling lonely, seeks out extra work. She stumbles upon an incredibly tempting job offer with a $1 million payout—enough to solve her financial troubles and let her leave her job behind.
Her task is to attend a wedding at the ominous, gothic Trywxyll House and retrieve a priceless piece of jewelry for a mysterious client. However, she’s unaware that Bowen is also attending the same wedding, at the request of his old school friend, Declan. The twist? Declan is dead, and his ghost is eager to reconnect with his ex-fiancée, who is marrying someone else at this very wedding.
When Bowen and Tamsyn cross paths at the creepy estate, they decide to join forces in the search for the magical item. What they don’t expect is to be swept away by a powerful spell that transports them back to 1957, where the same house exists—this time without the ghosts. Together, they encounter the ancestors of the house and start to unravel the dark secrets lurking within. Can they put things right and return to their own time without disrupting the future? As their attraction intensifies, they must navigate both their growing feelings and the tangled web of mysteries they need to solve.
A huge thanks to NetGalley and Avon Harper Voyager for providing me with a digital review copy in exchange for an honest review.

'The Wedding Witch' by Erin Sterling is 'Back to the Future' if Marty McFly was a surly Welsh witch. It returns us to the world of 'The Ex Hex' and 'The Kiss Curse,' and finds the third Penhallow brother falling for a human who deals in magical objects, of questionable legality.
I really enjoyed the teasing nature of the protagonists' relationship, in particular, Tamsyn's internal monologue had me laughing out loud a few times. I enjoyed the time travel premise, and I felt like Sterling was able to balance character, story, and world building well. Perhaps my favorite fall, witchy release of 2024!

This is book 3 in the Graves Glen -Jones/Penhallow witches books and I was excited to get back into this fun little world. I loved "The Ex-Hex" and liked "The Kiss Curse" so I was hopeful about "The Wedding Witch" being another cute witchy romcom.
Overall, the witchy paranormal vibes were enough to sustain my interest for this quick and lighthearted read. If you're willing to roll with a bit of insta-love romance with some noticeable plot stretches, this is a quick fall read. I'd recommend reading the previous stories to understand half the characters' names and relevance but otherwise this *could* be read as a stand-alone. Unlike the others that took place in the fall, The Wedding Witch is set at Yule (Christmas) which makes it a little more holiday festive.
I was eager to finish it during #witchweek so I was glad to have a buddy read for discussion and motivation. I realize now that I was really looking forward to more time near Penhaven so this setting was not as satisfying for me as the previous books. We do get some updates about the characters from the first two books so that was definitely a highlight.
Thank you to NetGalley & Avon and Harper Voyager for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Thank you to NetGalley & Avon and Harper Voyager for this ARC. This is a fun mix of fall meets Christmas with the witches plot. I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Bowen is definitely a broody grump and Tamsyn brings out the best in him. The family interactions were fun as well. Definitely a cozy, unique take on a holiday story.

I love this series. It’s always super cute and cozy for me. This was interesting as it was a more Christmas edition of a Halloween based series. I love all the characters, though (like the previous book), I needed a bit more investment in the love story. Just a bit more development or detail and this would have been five stars.

The Wedding Witch was a fun romp through time!
I really enjoyed getting to learn more about Bowen and why he was such a surly loner in the woods. And Tamsyn is so vivacious and fun. Their chemistry was electric and made this a quick, fun, holiday read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC!

This was such a delightful read! The only way this could’ve gotten a higher rating is if it was a squidge longer! I wanted a little more explanation at the ending to settle Bowen’s quest for his friend a little further. BUT! This had one of my favorite tropes (fake marriage / dating) and a microtrope that I didn’t even know I loved in it. Plus, don’t even get me started on the cute and sweet Welsh terms of endearment. I think the Welsh language is so interesting (look up their word for jellyfish 🪼) and beautiful and it’s showcased beautifully here. The spice? Great. The emotional payoff? Stellar.
Recommend? Absolutely!!

i love this series bc erin’s writing is always fun to read and i was so excited to finish this series bc bowen is finally the main character and we get know him better !!! i felt that it was really rushed since it has almost 290 pages, the romance part could have been better but the whole time traveling was fun, a good arc that i had NO idea it would happen, i figured they would attend the wedding together but to actually go back in time??? and i also really wished we saw more of the og characters :(
thank you to the publisher and erin sterling for the arc in exchange for an honest review <3

I love this series so much. It’s magical and perfect for spooky season when you’re like me and actually don’t handle spooky well. The characters are fun and realistic, even when the situations aren’t. And I was pleasantly surprised to realize that Bowen and Tamsyn might be my favorite couple yet. Tamsyn is bold and adventurous, and I think I want to be a little bit like her when I grow up. And Bowen….serious, quiet Bowen who seems standoffish but feels so deeply. I think I fell in love with him right alongside Tamsyn.
Generally time travel books are Not It for me. But I loved the whole plot. I loved seeing characters in both past and present. The stakes are appropriately high, there are genuinely tense moments, and I couldn’t predict every twist, which was great. I honestly loved everything about this book, and I think other readers will too.

What a cute wrap-up to the Graves Glen + Penhallow witches stories!! We finally get the story for mysterious mountain man middle brother Bowen Penhallow as he's tossed back in time with his off-limits magical artifact finder Tamsyn!
Bowen's college best friend and roommate is living in the liminal space between life and death, that friend's still living fiancee is getting married to another man, and Tamsyn just wants to get out of the finding (Acquiring, if we're getting technical) game. When a magical artifact sends Bowen and Tamsyn back to 1957 to live out a Back to the Future plot, things get FUN and limitations are no longer an issue!
This was a sweet wrapup to the story, and it was fun to get the Penhallow experience without the Graves Glen experience- although I missed the Jones cousins and their witchy people!!
Thank you so much to Erin Sterling, HarperCollins, and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you NetGalley and Avon for this Arc.
3.5/5 stars
This was my favorite in the series and I think it is because it wasn't set in Graves Glen. The last two were very underwhelming for me whereas this one felt whimsical and magical and what I wanted from a cozy witchy romance. The plot was okay. Everything wraps up fairly rushed and a little too nicely. The romance was believable and I loved the FMC. The conflict needed a little more intensity to keep me wanting to pick it up but I liked it overall. I've been hunting for a witchy book that gives me everything I want and this series is just average.

The Ex Hex Series is one of my favorite spooky season reads! Bowen and Tamsyn's story was such a fun way to wrap up the stories of the Penhallow brothers. Perfect for fans of "Back to the Future" and "Practical Magic", The Wedding Witch has fun tropes such as only-one-bed, fake marriage, time-travel, and ghosts!
Thank you, NetGalley and Avon for an ARC of The Wedding Witch. Pub Date: October 8, 2024

Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC of The wedding Witch!
This one was easy, cute and an enjoyable witchy read. It moved very quickly so is great if you want to binge a book in one sitting. I did find the speed meant there wasn’t as much depth in character development but the unique plot line kept you pulled in and entertained.

This is totally in-line with the rest of this serious. It is fun. It is not that serious. I enjoyed it, but it is not life changing.

A fun, witchy read. I loved that this was set in Wales—old castles and Celts will always be favorites of mine. And magic! And witches! Basically, there was a lot I loved about this book. The light conversational tone, the holiday vibes, and the witchy wonders held my attention and kept me coming back for more.
I will say that the romance aspect was a little underdeveloped; and the female main character felt undeserving of the man and the money. But, romance aspects aside, this was a fun and light read.
Ultimately this book is a celebration of life and of lives well lived. It's also a nod to mistletoe.

This was cute! This series is so great for the fall/halloween time – they’re very cute witchy reads and I loved the premise of this one! Tamsyn and Bowen had good chemistry but I do wish we’d seen more of them in person before they appear at the House for the wedding. Overall very happy I read this in September to get ready for spooky season 👻🎃

I had a lot of fun with this book. I really loved being with Bowen and Tamsyn. They end up accidentally going back in time together and that is when the fun really begins. They have to solve a problem before they can make it back to their time and they are on a time schedule. This is the third book in the series and I think it is my favorite. You don't need to read the first two in the series to enjoy this one, but the few scenes with the characters from the earlier books will be more enjoyable if you start at the beginning of the series. All of the books in this series are enjoyable.
