As someone who's semi-familiar with both pagan traditions and D&D, I really liked the concept of this book. However, I do think it fell short execution-wise. I felt like both Merle and Liberty were kind of... flat. I saw a lot of them, but I didn't particularly connect to them.
It was still interesting/fun to read, just not a favorite of mine.

Cute story overall. I really enjoyed Liberty and Merle as characters. They are very similar to my husband and I, so I had high hopes for this book. It was really fun to see him teach her about D&D and to see her not struggle with who she is and what she is passionate about. One thing I did not care for was the amount of public smut scenes. I can understand one, MAYBE TWO, but 4.5 scenes in public is just too much for me especially when Merle owns his own home. However, other than that it was a great story about a boy and a girl who help each other find themselves.

Whelp. I’m the first to admit, this isn’t my usual fare. The romance genre is not my wheelhouse. But while browsing NetGalley the title caught my eye, and witchy things and D&D are 100% my wheelhouse so I figured sure, why not. Really, any book genre can be in my thing if it’s a good book.
Here’s my issue. It feels like the author has never actually met someone who reads tarot, and especially has never encountered someone who plays D&D. These characters were written so incredibly one note and stereotypical, as if a quick google search was done for research and it was decided that was good enough. The word “nerdy” was increeeeeedibly overused, it literally can be found on almost every page. OMG, he’s soooooo nerdy! We get it. Also, anyone who is actually into any of these things knows they all go hand in hand, they are not separate worlds and it’s not a shock for these two people to find each other.
I could not care about anything that happened to these two because these googled tropes were just beat to death page after page.
So, yeah. I suppose this book is more for people who are just looking for romance books then for people who are interested in books about people who are into things like goth culture, tarot, spell casting, gaming, D&D etc, because those people will see right through these one note characters and leave unsatisfied (pun intended). 2 stars for the attempt, at least a google search was done.
But seriously, if someone calls it a D&D game, literally no one is going to say “aaaactually it’s a campaign”. Stop it.

I find romcoms so enjoyable. This book was no different. I found it so entertaining and I think most readers also would.

This is a fun, entertaining, paranormal read. Merle and Liberty are interesting, complex, intriguing, relatable, complicated, entertaining characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. I love that they were there for each other when the other was facing personal difficulties. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I enjoyed the family (although I wish that in Liberty’s case it had played out differently, that felt like a slight let down) and the friend aspect of the story. The story is easy to read and get into.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A quick, witchy romance with twists of loss and trust. I love the idea of this book but in the end it was only okay. The book set up some good points of tension but then dissolved the tension quickly without letting it build. For instance the first chapter had Liberty and Merle explaining their internal struggles of why they are holding off on a relationship together. By chapter two they are already being sexual together and talking about dating. The tension just seemed to fizzle and with it my attention. Additionally, the book had a lot of stream of consciousness from both Liberty and Merle. Some of this felt repetitive throughout the book and it also felt like too much. At times I wished we would see what was in the stream of consciousness be acted out instead of just thought. By the end I was viewing Liberty as a bit immature and I was struggling to enjoy their romance together.

Friends to lovers, found family, steamy romance. Throw in some tarot readings and some D&D, and you have a fun story about Liberty (a witch) and Merle (a nerd).
Funny story… I was 91% through this book when I realized it is the second in a series. And the first book… I bought it two months ago and haven’t gotten to it yet! 😆 Guess I’m reading book one next! (Luckily, they can be read as stand-alone books.)
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for How to Charm a Nerd to come out August 20, 2024.

Must read for the person who wants the witch vibes not just in October, enjoyed switched, or the chilling adventures of Sabrina but wanted it cozier.

Cute, Light, and easy to read! This was a cute rom com love story. As they go through their struggles. And the author throws in a bit of Dungeons and Dragons to add to the enjoyment!

What a fun book! Merle and Liberty were perfect for each other. Totally different personalities who went together really well. I loved learning about Samhaim and other witchy things and I knew nothing about Dungeons and Dragons beyond hearing the name. Katherine did a great job drawing me into both those worlds. It was refreshing to see charactres who were honest with each other. I really liked that. How to Charm a Nerd charmed me!

This book follows liberty and Merlin, and who end up on a journey to find for Liberty’s biological father. Thrown together Halloween night, things.. escalate burn the two. Overall, I thought the story was really cute. Had some funny moments. As someone who the only thing I know about D&D is the name, I enjoyed that aspect of the book. The characters themselves were enjoyable both together and apart. And I felt their character growth was realistic.

Cute, sweet book! It has a cinnamon roll mmc and a strong, kind fmc. Great spicy scenes. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a sweet love story set during autumn with some real witchy vibes.
It’s a cozy fall book. There are a few typos in the book, but they are worth it. I’m dreaming of fall leaves, cinnamon, and candles.
