Blog post goes live Sept 24th
TL;DR: 100% Yes, I loved this - I am continuing this series, you should read it too.
Source: Netgalley! Thank you to the publisher! I also purchased the audio book, with absolutely NO regrets. Jeff Hayes has the voice of a god.
Plot: This was just a hair slower than the first book, we’re in a city setting so there is more as far as NPCs and discovery, but it was still a blast.
Characters: Again, I loved them. There was no change there.
Setting: We get to see a ‘City’ dungeon floor here, very interesting and a lot of political/world building was given outside of the dungeon.
Magic: Races and Classes! We get to see a lot more of the weird in this one!
Thoughts:
There isn’t going to be much as far as coherent thought here - but I do love Dungeon Crawler Carl. I love it so much. This book has continued the fantastic story the first one established. Carl and Donut are now on the third floor, which is the race/class floor and their first ‘city’ floor.
Matt Dinniman has given these books a LOT of thought. It’s a lot of thought that pays off too. The pacing is also excellently done in that we get the information of what’s happening organically, but also at a steady clip. The story keeps you hooked and invested. Carl and Donut start to see more NPCs here, which was the big win for me. We see more of the ‘natives’ in the dungeons and more of how Quests and the like are going to affect the Crawlers. I’m so excited to see more of this.
This continues the hype train for me. I didn’t feel much if any of a second year slump in this second book, and I cannot wait for more of what is happening here. The more information we get the more excited I get.
5 out of 5 Bean Bag plushies

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and were not affected by the free copy.
The training levels have been completed and it's time for the games to begin. The fans love Princess Donut and Carl, but that doesn't guarantee their survival.
This was a good follow-up to Dungeon Crawler Carl. While I didn't love it quite as much, I blame that almost entirely on not having the audiobook to engage with. I love that the setting changes on each level of the dungeon. This floor contains a massively creepy circus, a corrupt political system, and a serial killer walking the streets of the town. This book only deals with level three, which at first was a drag; however, I see why. The further we descend into the dungeon, the longer we spend on the floor. We start seeing more side characters and character developement from the characters we already know and love.
I will definitely be continuing the series, I'm addicted to these books.

What a wonderful kickass book full of so much i love in the litrpg genre. FANTASTIC! Read this in tandem with the audiobook, a wonderful experience.

4 stars, Metaphorosis reviews
Summary
Carl the human and Princess Donut the cat survived the destruction of the Earth, but only by entering a dungeon competition created for the amusement of the planet's new alien owners. They've done well to survive so far. But that was only the first two, introductory levels. Soon, it will get tough.

I liked Dungeon Crawler Carl, the first in this series. Apparently it’s part of a litRPG subgenre I’d not encountered before, and I wasn’t too sure the joke would keep on being funny throughout the series. To the end of this second book, though, it still works.
There’s a fair amount that’s hard to follow, but also unnecessary to worry about – the details of Carl and Donut’s fights, the galactic alien politics behind it all, how the ‘magic’ works, and even the mechanics of the game system they’re all immersed in. The good news is that none of that really matters. It’s diverting and entertaining scenery, and there’s a lot of leveling up that goes on, but the core of the story is Carl and Donut’s relationship and general adventure, and that’s where Dinniman has done a good job in this second volume. It’s just fun to read – undemanding and diverting.
It’s been a while since I read a book that kept demanding to be picked up, but this is one.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun follow up to Dungeon Crawler Carl! It's as fun as the first one and I couldn't put it down!
The story has all the humour and exciting scenarios from the first book, and it ventured a bit further into the world building and setting up background for the political intrigue inside and outside of the dungeon. Can't wait to see all these plot lines pay off!
Thank you to NetGally and Berkley for the ARC!

Ace/Berkley Publishing provided an early galley for review.
I had a lot of fun with the first book in this series and was excited that the second's re-release was coming so soon. Less wait between volumes is always good, especially for a story like this one which is designed for a longer series.
Now that Dinniman has gotten a lot of the set-up out of the way with the first book, he is able to dive headlong into the plotlines and progression of this LitRPG series. That means even more crazier encounters and complex narratives being set up and executed in the form of quests. The quests usually keep things into controlled, organized blocks. Overall, I found this volume's pace to be much quicker because of this.
I like too that he is open for changing and evolving the main characters (Carl and Donut). He adds and subtracts elements (gear, abilities, etc.) in order to give himself new toys with which to play in upcoming encounters. This certainly keeps things from being repetitive and predictable.
I am on-board for the next volume which is coming later in the Fall.

Dungeon Crawler Carl served as a fun and funny introduction to this far-reaching litRPG saga, and Carl's Doomsday Scenario further cements it into something special. Now that the initial floors are behind them, Carl and his crew are starting to get the hang of what's going on, and Dinniman starts weaving side quests into the story to keep the crew on their toes.
The numerous creativity, humor, and "I have a plan!" moments make this novel fly by at a breakneck pace. I've already finished book three and have started book four, and I don't think I'll be reading anything else until I'm all caught up.
