This has to be one of the most frustrating books I’ve ever read. These characters are extremely unlikely. They constantly made things unnecessarily difficult for themselves. Every issue that arose had a fairly simply solution but of course they always did something stupid instead. I found the book to be simultaneously extremely predicable and yet completely implausible. Most of the events in this book would simply not occur. And yet somehow I managed to predict every “twist and turn”. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.

Drop Dead Sisters was a bit of a darker, grittier, cozy mystery.
Usually, in a cozy mystery, the victim is a dastardly character who know one is terribly sad about, and there are plenty of suspects that wanted to do them harm. In this story, the victim is beyond just a dastardly character. He is downright evil. This is what makes this story a little bit darker than most cozies.
The story centers around three sisters, who aren't too close but are thrown together for a family camping trip to celebrate their parents' anniversary. They become mixed up with the dead body of our dastardly victim, and what follows is a story with some wit and kinship as the sisters must come together to keep each other and the rest of their family out of trouble.
This was a shorter story at 255 pages, which was the perfect length for it. It was a slower paced read, as there was quite a bit of character development with the youngest sister, who is really the main character of the story, and relationship development between the sisters.
I pretty much suspected what actually happened to the victim, but there were some interesting little twists along the way until the reveal.
If you enjoy mysteries and family centered stories, I would definitely recommend this one.

At its core, this is a story about rivalry, resentment, and the messy bond that ties sisters together—even when secrets and sarcasm run thicker than blood.
What I loved most is how Coombs layers humor over heartbreak. The banter is biting, the pacing quick, and yet beneath all the snark lies something vulnerable: grief, loyalty, and the uncomfortable ways we show love. It’s a rare mix—satirical but sincere.
The tone reminded me of a modern-day gothic with a YA bite—equal parts sharp dialogue, chaotic family dynamics, and a touch of macabre flair. By the end, I felt like I’d been handed a cracked mirror: not perfect, but reflecting something painfully real.

I really struggled with the main character, not because of her anxiety, but because of her constant self-sabotage and unlikable behavior. It felt like she pushed everyone away and then played the victim, which got frustrating fast. Her actions overshadowed any potential growth or relatability. Unfortunately, she just didn’t work for me as a lead, which kinda brought down the whole vibe of the book.

A cozy mystery about 3 sisters who deal with a suspicious death at their parents' 40th wedding anniversary celebration.
The main character (Remi) is the youngest of 3 daughters. Her oldest sister is 8 years older, so for that reason and a number of others, the sisters aren't terribly close. Remi isn't terribly likable. Despite her mentions of therapy, she isn't very well-adjusted and feels sorry for herself a lot of the time. Her sisters aren't perfect, but the middle one is (1-dimensional but) likable and has a sense of humor.
I could've done without the convenient romance but I hate a sudden romance nearly every time I read one.
The ending was strong - I liked the little twist. And it was nice to see the sisters' progression.
Thank you for the ARC. I purchased for my librarry.

This story follows Remi who has avoided her family for a long time until she is invited for a family trip. I have read Coombs YA novels which I have enjoyed. This one was pretty good with a great storyline. However, it was hard to like the character. The pacing felt slow and fast at the same time which I know is confusing. The mystery storyline wasn’t all so a mystery but I did like the family dynamic of the storyline. I think it would have been fun to read from the sister’s perspectives throughout this book. This book is told from Remi’s pov.
Remi is the FMC of the storyline and deals with major anxiety and family troubles. However, I felt as though her story wasn’t told well. Her character was unlikeable but I liked how she did get closer to her sister. Her sisters are the main side leads and I did like them. They seem pertective of each other but I think it would have been coller to get their perspectives too. We also get to see the parents and the grandmother in this story. There is a bit of romance but it’s not the main aspect of the book. It is friends to lovers and instant love.
The ending was well done and overall a good book. I do like Coombs YA novels more but this one is not so bad. I just felt that the mystery was not so mysterious but I did like sisters coming together. I am excited to see what other stories Coombs have. I do recommend checking out this book especially if you are looking for a family themed mystery that is short.
*this book was sent to me by the publihser to give an honest review in return*

This book was so much fun to read! I just had surgery so I had some time to sit and read during my recovery and this book was perfect for that! It kept me guessing as to who the killer was and if the body would be found. I will definitely be looking for more in this series and from this author.

The mystery was so interesting but unfortunately, this was let down by the most irritating main character I've read in a long while. I thought I liked to complain but Remi absolutely had me beat. Her constant self-recriminations and self-pity just came off as her having a victim complex and it made it so hard to root for her.
I did enjoy the writing and humor was present throughout. An while the mystery was engaging, I needed a reason to root for the characters.

This was a fun, funny, kind of cozy mystery with an emphasis on the characters. The mystery plot was pretty thin, but I enjoyed the humor and the family dynamics. I found the main character likable and relatable - which is always a plus. I can see from some of the other reviews that other readers found her whiny/annoying and I can see why. I guess it just didn't bother me this time.
I read an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All comments are my own.

I originally thought this book was going to be slapstick funny but it had much more depth about a dysfunctional family whose sisters reunite camping. I liked Remy and her struggle with anxiety and self worth and how tried to overcome her sister's indifference to her. The book had its funny moments as they try to find a missing body, but I particularly loved how she stood up for herself and was able to communicate to her sisters how their behavior negatively affected her. I hope there will be more stories about the sisters!

Thank you Mindy's Book Studio and NetGalley for the DRC of Drop Dead Sisters! All opinions in this review are my own.
Drop Dead Sisters is perfect for fans of the Finlay Donovan series! Although the mystery is messy and the characters make terrible choices throughout it, at its heart, Drop Dead Sisters is a dark humor story about a family sticking together no matter what. I enjoyed the writing style and I look forward to the next book in the series!

What a fun, quick read! The sisters were funny-actually the whole family was so quirky. The story moved a long and was entertaining. I also appreciated that they author kept it light and funny but had a mystery element to it.

Thank you, NetGalley in receiving this book for an honest review. This book is abut the 3 Finch sisters that get together on a camping trip to celebrate their parents anniversary. Each one is extremely different and do not spend much time together.
Thn a dead body turns up the sisters come together to investigate and get rid of the body. But then the body disappears and they carry on their invesigation.
Obviously there is another book coming so you won't want to miss it.

Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy.

Thank you, NetGalley and Mindy’s Book Studio | Mindy's Book Studio books for this book for review. This book was ridiculous in the best way possible. The 3 Finch sisters are getting together on a camping trip for a family vacation to celebrate their parents anniversary. The sisters are very different and don’t get along and haven’t spent much time together in recent years. Remi is the youngest sister and doesn’t feel like she has any relationship with anyone. Remi is willing to reconnect with her sisters if they are willing to give it a chance. Then a dead body turns up at their campsite and the 3 Finch sisters bicker, but quickly form a plan. No one is sure how he died, but they are sure that they are going to get rid of him. Then the body disappears. Hilarity ensures. Sister fighting and bonding occurs. I didn’t realize when I read this book it was the start of a series. Definitely going to continue reading as the sisters are funny and it will be interesting to see what they get up to next.

"Drop Dead Sisters" is not the story it would have you believe it to be. Going by the synopsis most readers may think it's a wholesome and cozy mystery series, but they would be surprised rather quickly once engaging deeper in the story. The mystery and suspense are themselves heavily overshadowed by an incredibly toxic family who bullies and neglects the protagonist, Remi. I felt a lot of empathy for her and desperately wanted the story to go in any direction than its main goal: reconnecting with the family responsible for her lifelong traumas. I so wanted to see her to break away from them all and move on. It really established a central message of accepting your family's abuse because they'll be there for you. Sometimes. There was also a lot of repetition with describing Remi's mental state; most readers will understand from the jump but it doesn't have to be stated more than a few times that a character has high anxiety. It would be better to see this in her actions rather than to be told this several times throughout the story. Ultimately I didn't find a lot positive here, other than the decent representation of Remi seeming younger than her actual age, as this is a common reaction to intense trauma. I feel I have to give this book a 2.5, which I'll round up to 3, out of 5.

A whole new meaning behind dysfunctional family. Twisted Sisters. Camping. Hiking. Murder? The words flowed seamlessly from page to page, chapter to chapter. Putting it down was incredibly difficult. I felt inside the main character’s mind the entire time, as though peering through her eyes, her view of her world. I felt the connections between her and her family members as though they were my own. The world of these characters so easy to see, feel, and touch. This is a fun whodunit that some skeptics out there may not fully accept the outcome, but I believe in the power of the imagination and an open mind. I definitely recommend this!!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. Anyone with sisters will appreciate the dynamic of the Finch sisters. This was a quick and entertaining read, about family, dysfunction, and how far you’d go to protect the ones you love. If you take it for what it is, a work of fiction, and don’t get hung up on protocol and details this is a nice little read. 3.5 stars

A weekend in the woods with dysfunctional but well meaning family, a missing body, a little humor and romance makes this a fun ride. You won’t be able to put it down.

I absolutely loved this book! Only took me a few hours to finish it and it was a total blast! I fell in love with every character (except Guy, of course), their determination to protect one another was absolute love, and Leo was the cutest thing ever❤️ I loved the growth between the sisters and how they all came together to make the most out of a shitty situation.
