I am not the target audience for this book. I am a big fan of hockey romance books. However I don’t looks like pride and prejudice. I gave this book a shot and it was a miss for me. I am sure others will love this but not for me.

Unfortunately, regency romances just are not my thing. I was hoping since this book had a modern MMC it would help bridge the gap for me, but did not. This is a 'me' problem, however, and not one I blame on the author.

The Good: It was very fun and well-written! I would not exactly call this a sports romance, either. It involves a hockey player but the sports part of it was mostly off-screen.

The Not-So-Great: It was regency. Again, my bad.

I am giving this 3.5 stars rounded up, as I really do think someone who likes regency romances will enjoy this book. Its just not my genre.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon for the advanced copy!

The second I heard about this book I knew I had to get my hands on it. An absolutely ridiculous premise in all the right ways.

This book was everything I wanted it to be. An absolutely enjoyable, read in one sitting with a glass of wine and a cheeseboard, kind of book.

This wasn’t life changing fiction, but I had an absolute blast reading this. It made for a truly fantastic evening and I’ll definitely be thinking about it for a long time. I will definitely be recommending this to all of my friends.

This book was utterly fun from start to finish. A hockey player gets transported back to Regency England? I'm here for it! The story was as lighthearted as I'd hoped, with some hilarious fish out of water moments as our hero adjusted to life in the past--and as the heroine experienced love and lust for the first time. I loved the romance and the surprisingly heartfelt commentary of how women's rights have improved, but not nearly enough. Who cares if the concept isn't realistic! Puck and Prejudice is a delightful read for anyone looking to relax and have a little silly fun.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC.

The concept of this book really drew me in, because how could I not want to read about a hunky hockey player time traveling and falling in love with a woman from 1812? I loved Lizzy as a main character, I thought she was intelligent and funny. She was strong and I admired that. Tuck was good too even if sometimes he felt like an idealized version of a man. Overall the story was fun and kept me engaged until the end to see how they would leave things.

I feel like I need a new book list category for 2024, and I want it to be title most unhinged books of the year. “Puck and Prejudice” would definitely make that list. Like come on how can you not be sold on A pro hockey player being sent to the past and forced to marry Jane Austen best friend in order to survive regency era. My brain:immediately add to cart.

In all seriousness “Puck and Prejudice” was a fun light read! Tucker and Lizzy were easy to relate to and you can’t help but root for them throughout their journey. And to top it off the spicy scenes did not disappoint in the slightest. I would like my own personal Tucker Taylor ;)

Overall, “Puck and Prejudice” was my first ever Lia Riley book and I will definitely be looking into more of her books in the future. If you’re looking for a quick fun romcom with a bit of time travel magic I definitely recommend!

Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Tucker Taylor is a professional hockey player who gets benched due to his health issues. With no time on the ice, and a broken heart over it, he decides to take a much needed vacation to England to visit his sister. But he accidentally falls into a pond has him transporting back to 1812 England. And there he bumps into bookworm and strong opinionated Lizzy. Two worlds collide and Lizzy thinks she’s found her answer to a marriage, one that’s not forced on her. She proposes that Tucker helps her and she helps him find his way back home.

I love this take on Jane Austen met with a sport I love: HOCKEY! It was a different yet funny spin. I mean give me all the hockey romance and Jane Austen any day. It’s also a marriage of convenience which I love. Not to mention Regency era, mixing in a modern day man.

This book is much more contemporary romance than steamy. But all in all, it works really well for the plot and story Lia is telling. I laughed and gasped and all around felt the cheesiness that comes with a feel good book!

I really enjoyed this book. It was super reminiscent of Outlander with a newer twist of sports romance thrown in along with nostalgia of the classics, too. Having finally read Sense and Sensibility & Pride and Prejudice in the past year, I was extra invested in the Jane Austen tie-in.

Unfortunately this book just didn't appeal to my tastes. Though I am typically into hockey romances and do enjoy the occasional period piece, the mash up of the two, as well as the time travel aspect was just too much for me. The description was intriguing, but the ending left a lot to be desired as there would be no way to maintain that relationship in any meaningful way. It is a fun premise, and I am sure a lot of people will love it. There is plenty of cheeky banter and the character development is good without being over the top. It just didn't appeal to my own personal tastes.

Dnf. I had seen this book and a few friends had read it, so I gave it a shot. But it’s just too outlandish for me. While all romance books are technically fantasy books, I feel like a hockey romance doesn’t need a fantastical element. And especially not time travel.

Also, it does bother me that he’s not wearing goalie gear on the cover.

This was such a fun and cute little read bringing both my love for Jane Austin and hockey together! I never would have thrown hockey into a mix like this story, but I enjoyed it none the less and it was such a fun cute romance. There were times I laughed at the two characters banter between one another and it made it more enjoyable. I wasn't sure how the author would make the story work with the Regency Era time line to the now timeline. The author did her homework and managed to explain the whole paradox of timelines and it made me think of Doctor Who and how they explained it! Never underestimate the power of a paradox!

I loved this book! I know it's gotten a bunch of slack online, but I think you have to take it for what it is - a tropey romance novel that was lots and lots of fun. Part of the fun is the genre twist. You need to lean into it! I recommend this for K-drama lovers!

Lia Riley's Puck and Prejudice is a delightful romp that blends the world of modern hockey with Regency-era romance in a truly unique fashion. The novel follows Tucker Taylor, a pro hockey goalie who, due to a freak accident, finds himself transported from contemporary Austin to 1812 England. There, he encounters Lizzy Wooddash, a fiercely independent woman who yearns for the freedom associated with widowhood. Lizzy, a close friend of the yet-to-be-famous Jane Austen, devises a plan: if Tucker marries her, she will be free to pursue her literary dreams, and he will be free to return to his own time.

The concept is as wild as it sounds, and while it might seem a bit absurd, Riley's execution is both charming and entertaining. The historical and contemporary elements collide in a fun and often humorous way, creating a lighthearted and engaging read. The chemistry between Tucker and Lizzy is palpable, and their journey from a convenient marriage to a genuine romance is filled with endearing moments and witty banter.

However, the novel's brisk pacing means that some aspects of the plot and characters feel underdeveloped. The romance, while sweet and steamy, unfolds quickly, leaving little room for deeper exploration. Despite these minor shortcomings, Puck and Prejudice is a refreshing take on both sports and historical romance, offering a playful and enjoyable escape from reality. For those willing to embrace its fantastical premise, it's a fun and memorable read.

okay so. can confirm: this is the most absolutely batshit insane premise i have ever read for a hockey romance. possibly the most insane premise i've read for any romance. however. it works? a hockey player get into a freak accident on a celtic holiday and finds himself transported to regency england. oh and jane austen is there. my only complaint is the mmc is named tucker. it gives hyperactive five year old. other than that no notes. this book was a essentially the mummy at universal: a wild ride but one you can't help but go back to.

ooooohhhhh... where to begin????

first, thank you to net galley and the publishers for letting me read the arc to this wonderfully weird book.

I have seen a lot of discourse - if you can even call it that - about Puck and Prejudice. Overall, I think we can all agree that this is an absurd, ABSOLUTELY ABSURD premise... so of course I was immediately intrigued.

Picture this... the year is 1812. Your name is Lizzy and your best friend just so happens to be the one and only Jane Austen (but she's not famous yet). She is currently writing her magnum opus, Pride and Prejudice. You guys are so close in fact that she is naming the main character in that book after you.

On one fine day, you are taking a stroll by a lake... maybe even a pond... can't remember the logistics... and you hear a strange groaning from a bush. You then find a man who looks totally out of place. Wearing Nike Dunks and a hockey jersey out of place. You're not even familiar with Nikes OR hockey. This is strange right?

You just so happen to find this man very attractive as well. AND you just so happen to dream of widowhood. You find out that this man is from the future and is going to try to find a way back. You hatch a plan... enter a marriage of convenience with the conventionally attractive man and when he soon goes back to the future... BADA BING BADA BOOM you have your dreams of widowhood complete. But, what if you begin to fall for this attractive man you just so happen to call your husband now.

That is the entire premise here. If you just got whiplash from that description... IMAGINE READING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH VERY LITTLE CONTEXT

Is this book high literature? Of course not.
But is it fun? ABSOLUTELY YES

Like I have been telling literally everyone I know to buy this book when it comes back because you just have to read it. I have literally never read anything like this, and I read a lot of "weird" books.
I had the time of my life... I giggled, I weirdly did swoon, and most importantly I was YEARNING.

To sum this up, here's a pros and cons list:

Pros:
- A slow burn... i'm talking 80% of the way through the book type yearning
- If you're willing to commit to the bit... a great time!
- A completely original idea in today's romance world
- You will literally never be able to get this book out of your head

Cons:
- A little cringe, but hey who cares
- I think a lot of people are going to take this seriously, when obviously you aren't supposed to
- uses the word "milk" in a sexual manner twice :((

So, in conclusion... I think everyone should just commit to the bit and read this!!!! Stop taking life so seriously and just have a good time!

Thanks again netgalley!

Pride and Prejudice’ is my favorite book. Of all time. So anytime I get the opportunity to read a retelling of whatever fashion, I do so. Lia Riley scores a hat trick with this time traveler, spicy, hockey regency romp. Many thanks to net galley and Avon for this fun advanced readers copy!

I love a fish out of water story and this one didn't disappoint. As both an English major and avid romance reader, I am embarrassingly unfamiliar with the works of Jane Austen, so I was a bit nervous going into this that it would go over my head, but it absolutely didn't stop me from enjoying this romp.

Lizzy Wooddash, the FMC and a friend of none other than Jane Austen herself, is a forward-thinking, free-spirited woman living in 1812 England.
Tucker Taylor is a modern day goalie for Austin's fictional hockey team, the Regals, is in remission from cancer, and is visiting his sister who is studying British literature at the University of Bath. While driving home, he veers into a frozen pond, gets trapped under the ice, and awakens in 1812 to a lovely woman throwing an apple at his head.

I love that Lizzy is so no-nonsense. She is confronted with the problem of an out-of-his-time gigantic American man and immediately starts coming up with a plan. Tucker is amazed by not only her *womanly charms* but also her sense of humor, strength, and bravery.

We get some excellent tropes: marriage of convenience, only one bed, and *those kind of lessons*. The chemistry between Tucker and Lizzy is really hot--he is down bad pretty much right away and although he may be used to 2024 ladies, he wants nothing more than to get under Lizzy's modest nightdresses.

Overall, I think this is great for fans of Alexandra Vasti, with a 19th century British setting, excellent banter, and legit/fully fleshed out love scenes. I also liked the unconventional but definite HEA -- it made total sense for this pair. Looking forward to more from this author.

Sports romance with time travel that too modern times MMC blend in with ancient times FMC 💫 that's the best thing I can imagine i believe and the author definitely executed the concept so well that I was literally hooked to the book from page one till the last page. I absolutely loved it.
The way the author blend in so many different elements in this single book is something I don't usually come across and I must say I am impressed well well I am totally in love with it.
