I have loved every Lia Riley book I’ve read. Admittedly, I struggled at the beginning of this one as the premise segments too far fetched and I was a Pride and Prejudice snob. However, once I got going, I could put it down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced read.

The premise is absolutely amazing, and I was so excited to dive in. Unfortunately I think this one was not for me personally, but I still had such a fun time. The chemistry and banter between the characters was so good! I do know a number of people who will definitely enjoy this book more than I did based on its plot and tropes, so I will absolutely be recommending it to them once it comes out!

I tried getting this one but I don't think the writer's style is for me. I really wanted to like this one as the title seemed so goood!

First of all, I absolutely loved this book. I wasn't sure what to think when I first read the synopsis, but it was intriguing so I had to read it. And I'm so thankful I did! This book is wonderful! If you're a fan of Outlander, contemporary romance novels (like hockey ones), and Jane Austen, then this book is for you.

Tucker Taylor, our story's hero, is an absolute himbo of a hockey player. He's awkward, far too caring, too gorgeous for his own good, and reluctant time traveler. After visiting his sister Nora in England in present day, he ends up back in 1812 in a cow pond, confused as all get out. Enter Miss Lizzy Wooddash.

Our heroine is best friends with Jane Austen and her cousin, Georgie, and had no time nor the place for Mister Tucker Taylor, whom she randomly found in a pond in the strangest clothes she's ever seen. Through a series of events, the two agree to a marriage of convenience until the two of them can be separated again—her to be a 'widow' and him to go back to his own time.

I sat through this entire book wondering if they'd fall in love, what they'd eventually decide to do, and how this story was going to end, agonizing over whether they'd stay together or separate. And, I have to say, I really enjoyed the ending and I don't think it could've been solved any better!

Thank you to Lia Riley, NetGalley, and Avon Books for giving me this ARC! This review was written in exchange for the book, but all of my views are my own.

The premise - so fun!
The plot - so cute!
The spice - not for me...

This book was a good time!
🌟I enjoyed Lizzy's character, motives and personality. A lot of classic tropes you love in a romance were here! The pacing was great and I liked the writing style, particularly when it was from Lizzy in the regency style.

-I did need a little bit more from Tuck. Some of his dialogue in Lizzy's POV felt disconnected from his POV and sometimes he was just there. As fun as regency and hockey sounded, I think how the blend of contemporary with the past was happening hurt the flow a little.

Overall it was a fun read and there were lots of moments where it was hard to put the book down!

*Possible Spoiler Alert*

I would give this book around a 3.5 stars! The story of time travel romance was very interesting. I really enjoyed both of the main characters a lot and thought they had a pretty genuine connection to each other. I loved the time it was set in and to see how our MMC navigated it was wonderful. I loved out FMC and how strong she was. The only complaint I had is during the middle it got a little repetitive but overall I really enjoyed the story.

I must confess I have never read anything by Jane Austen... I know, I know--it is awful. Although, I did really enjoy this book. The banter was top notch. The story was fun, a clever twist on time travel and plenty of spice. And if I enjoy it I can only imagine a Jane Austen fan would just love the book.

Once I was able to come to terms that the book was about time travel I was hooked. The idea of a modern MMC in 1812 was fun and cute and there were precisely enough ‘good girl’’s sprinkled throughout the book. Loved the ending too even though I was weary of how it could possibly end.

Immediately upon reading the description blurb I was intrigued by the premise… hockey player meets Jane Austen Regency 🥰 it seemed silly and delightful (and that’s exactly what it was). This was a very lighthearted easy read with great banter. It was a little fluffy, with conflicts very easily resolved, but overall I thought it was a fun and new take on classic tropes!

Thanks to NetGalley and author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Tucker is a hockey player that was taking some time off to visit his sister in England, little did he know that he wasn't staying in present day England, but will be takin' back in time to 1812. Tucker finds himself on the outskirts when a young women named Lizzy finds Tucker soaking wet from a pond. Lizzy doesn't know what to make of him, he's huge, dressed oddly, and his accent is American! Lizzy is in a predicament, she wants freedom and the only way that is possible is if she is a widow. A marriage of convenience might be the answer to both their problems or will it cause new ones to arise.

Never thought I would read a time travel hockey romance set in the regency era! It was an amazing book, I will definitely be buying a paperback edition when it's available. I love that the author made the story engaging for the audience. I couldn't put the book down, I needed to find out the ending.

Puck and Prejudice arc review:

This book was such a pleasant and unexpected read! I really enjoyed it, as it was so different from other romances I’ve read. I loved the entire time travel concept and being a huge fan of outlander, this was the perfect read, especially since I’m currently missing the show being on. I also LOVED the Pride and Prejudice/Jane Austen references. Tuck and Lizzy had such great chemistry. I loved them as characters and the banter as well as the romance they shared. The marriage of convenience and close proximity was well executed. Im so excited to read more books by Lia Riley , as this was my first one and I’ve clearly been missing out. Thank you so much Avon and netgallry for this incredible arc in exchange for my honest review

I really wanted to love this book but it was just too slow for me :( I love the idea of time travel and loves from two different eras but I couldn't finish.

This was a fun romance/time travel novel. Tucker Taylor is in Bath, visiting his sister, when he tries to drive back to the B&B, and drives into a pond, to avoid hitting some children on the road.

When he wakes up he is coming out of that same pond, but in 1812. He really wants to go home, if he can, and Lizzy, the woman who finds him, would like to help him go home, but would like a favor. If he is going back anyway, why doesn’t he marry her, so she can be a widow, and have some level of freedom.

And of course, because it is a romance, they end up falling for each other.
This is a fun historical romance. I didn’t even feel I had to research to see if Jane Austin would have been nearby, or when she wrote Pride and Prejudice, because I didn’t want to stop reading the story. This swept me up in the characters, and I didn’t want to leave them, when finally the novel came to an end.

If you enjoy historical romance, with a bit of time travel involved, this will tick all your boxes (it appears to be a sub-genre these days, as this is the second one I have read with this theme).

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book will be published on the 12th of November 2024.

Tucker Taylor is visiting his sister in London when he suddenly finds himself with some downtime after a health scare where he was diagnosed with cancer. When a freak accident has him tumbling into a freezing pond he emerges on the other side ... in 1812! Lizzy Wooddash happens upon Tucker and there a reluctant alliance ensues. Lizzy will help Tucker get to try and get back to modern times - if he agrees to marry her so that she can have her freedom to do as she pleases. Tucker agrees and slowly their marriage of convenience starts to feel all too real.

The synopsis of Puck and Prejudice sounded so good! I liked the way the story started, but once Lizzy and Tucker met the romance fell flat for me. This was definitely a case of insta love and I had a hard time finding the connection between the two. Time travel books are hit and miss for me and unfortunately this one was a miss.

This was cute. Set in regency era- hockey romance. One bed only and tike traveling? Kinda weird., kinda sweet.

That man stuffed a double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon Hockey Ass™ into a pair of breeches and I am 🗣️ HERE FOR IT 🗣️ — but also rip Lizzy because she was going THROUGH it. So many confusing and lustful tingles.

Like can you imagine being a sheltered regency miss suddenly in close proximity to a hockey playing himbo from the 21st century????? Honestly, before this book it wouldn’t have been in my wildest dreams, but now it IS the dream.

The only way I can describe Puck & Prejudice is FUN. It was less “hockey romance” and more “very confused and very large man dropped into Regency England with absolutely no context to prepare himself or the spinster who finds him.” So I do think historical and contemporary romance fans alike will have a good time.

At first I was like, a hockey player???? But the more I thought about it—and read it—I was like wait, this is genius. Like yes, actually a hockey player is the best candidate for time travel to 1812 because he was SO unprepared. To the haters, I just gotta say, why do you not want to be entertained????

There is a CW for cancer, as the hero was in remission during the book and on medical leave from hockey—which led to him being on vacation in England and the subsequent accidental time travel. I really loved this actually, because it made the time travel a bit more fraught—how would he fight it in 1812 if it came back??—but it could definitely be triggering, so take care.

Overall, it was unserious in the best of ways, but it was also compelling, well written, and delightfully campy. If you don’t go into this book expecting a dissertation on Jane Austen or a play by play hockey game, I truly think you’ll have a good time. Of course a time traveling hockey player who falls in love with regency spinster is wacky! It’s supposed to be!

A regency-era (kind of) hockey romance that brought a smile to my face the entire time I was reading. This book was so silly but so perfect. No spoilers but there are definitely some P&P movie and book references that made me cackle. The two POVs were handled well, and I loved being able to see the story from both perspectives.

For those who think this would be a P&P retelling, it isn’t. For those thinking this is a hockey romance, it isn’t (well, mostly isn’t). And that’s why this is perfect. It’s a ridiculous romp through regency era confusion and a use of tropes that I’m not always a fan of, but it was handled in an enjoyable way (fake marriage and insta-like/love). There were moments where things felt too easy - with how out of place he was, to me being American just wasn’t enough of an excuse for people to be so easy to go along with the situation?

That said, I very much enjoyed reading this book and if there’s a second to follow, I will absolutely read it. Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager for the opportunity for this ARC read!

"it was as if she was the full Garden of Eden and he wanted knowledge."

Tucker Taylor knows hockey. When his stage 1 cancer diagnosis benches him for a season, he pushes hard to recover so he can get back on the ice. And by ice, he means skating rink, not the ice of a pond that serves as a portal to rocket him to the 1800s... and to Lizzy Wooddash. Fate, however, has other plans.

tropes:
time travel
athlete MMC
only one bed

steam:
several explicit scenes

content warnings:
sudden death of side character
cancer
car accident (non fatal)

what I liked:
I wanted to read this book so bad because the premise is so utterly unhinged--fully bonkers. the plot is fairly original and the book is reasonably well written. it is a light, fun, easy read, just as I hoped it would be.

what I didn't like:
another reviewer says Jane Austin's presence in the book reads a lil like self insert fan fiction. I agree, it does. I also found Tuck's utter ignorance about one of the most iconic writers in history to be not very believable. I can handle mystical time travel, but how does anyone not know what Pride and Prejudice is? especially when his sister studies this subject and is passionate about it. Does he just not listen when she talks??

This book needs another pass through by an editor. there are missing or misplaced quotation marks throughout, and a few grammatical errors. (such as “I want you to hear you promise.”)

I didn't mind that there was very little hockey in the actual book, but other people might mide if this ends up marketed as a sports romance.

Overall it was a fun read. 3.5 stars rounded up.

Outlander meets hockey romance with a stamp of approval from Austen 📚

If you don't mind spice, love hockey romance, and find yourself in your regency era (thanks Bridgerton) .... then this book is for you. 😍 (I fall into a fourth category of reading anything with a hint of Pride and Prejudice in it 🤣)

This book is a DELIGHTFUL mashup of everything we love about regency romance with everything we have grown to crave from modern romances. Both pair together perfectly.

When you drop a hottie with a body from now into the middle of a backwoods regency pond only to be discovered by an unmarried woman on a walk... chaos, humor, and romance naturally follow. I couldn't get enough of these two, Lizzy (FMC) and Tuck (MMC). The banter is on point and totally regency appropriate. The romance gets sizzly pretty fast and then once that marriage of convenience comes into play, BAM, they throw the door wide open. Granted I am NOT a spicy book reader, I still found this book wildly fun and entertaining!

I enjoyed this book and am excited for release day to be here.

3 stars✨⭐️.

This description of the book was very interesting. I liked that the characters were respectful of each other and their respective goals. However, I didn't feel a close connection to either because the pacing of the book was a bit off. It felt like some parts should've been faster while others needed more lengthening. Also, I felt like there should've been more attention on Tucker's return rather than the characters relationship because it breezes past the main story of how he got there. I thought that some conversations between the two main characters were engaging like the comparison between the times. This was a fairly quick read too.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an e-book ARC.
