Jace shows up in Austin to meet Dylan and his sons Liam and Sean so that they can start experimenting on his collar to see if they can get it off without him turning feral. He shows up at the underground fight club as requested and is immediately attacked. He is besting the wolf but soon a woman wolf jumps in to defend him. While he really didn’t need the assistance he loves that an unknown woman thought to help him.

Deni is a woman who is on the edge. She was hit by a car (purposely) while riding her motorcycle and since then she blanks out and forgets who people are. She’s very close to turning feral at a moments notice. Fortunately for both Jace and Deni they find that the other calms them down and they each help the other in their own way. Between the human police constantly showing up in Shiftertown and a near fatal accident the two may never get to be together.

This was a short but fast read. The novella is on the go from word one and the excitement doesn’t stop until the last word is read.

I loved that Deni and Jace were helping each other out so much. I know that’s what mates are supposed to do in these stories but this one was very touching. They were both lonely in their own way and need the strength of the other to get them through. Though they’d just met they knew enough about each other to trust each other. The quiet affection in the story effected me more than anything, I think. It was very sweet even while the story was pretty wild. IDK – it was contradictory but I liked it.

Overall a good read and one I’m happy to recommend.
