Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am a massive Kelley Armstrong fan. (Shockingly the one series I have yet to read is her Otherworld series). Rockton and now its spin off series have had me a tight grip since the first novel. The plot is unique, at least as far as in the books I've read. I love the series. This book was a treat...catching up with my fave characters and meeting some new ones. The actual case this time wasn't my favorite but it was still interesting. I was really invested in Casey's pregnancy and the way they handled the other residents during the case. Cold As Hell is not the best place to jump into this series. I'd highly recommend jumping into the first Rockton book and experiencing the entire journey of Casey and company. This author knows how to engage her audience and definitely is skilled at writing characters with unique voices who readers can come to care about.

The Rockton series has to be one of my favorite series by Armstrong, which is why I was so excited that the series continued with a spin-off, Haven's Rock. And, if possible, I love this series even more and the latest, Cold As Hell, is definitely my favorite to date of said series. I absolutely adored this read. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was completely stumped as to who-dunn'it and was excited each time a new twist and turn showed up to throw me even more off the trail.

I loved watching Casey and Eric's relationship grow even more with each new surprise that came their way and with the upcoming arrival of their baby. I have loved these two as a couple from the beginning and their love for one another and their quirky little town just gets stronger and better each new installment.

This is a series you don't want to miss out on. Quirky, original, and so much fun, it really is one that stands out, and I drop everything to start right away. It is so worth the read, I can't recommend it enough.

I must admit I was concerned about the series after reading book 2, but I am so glad I took the chance on Cold as Hell (book 3). The composition of the residents of Haven's Rock (including couples and children) was worrisome for me, but the challenges they bring to the community make this series more than merely a continuation of Rockton (a series I thoroughly enjoyed). I do worry about Emilie's age, but I am confident that she (and Armstrong) have a succession plan in place. I am looking forward to a long run of Haven's Rock, and highly recommend this series.

This installment of the Haven's Rock series finds Casey and Eric on the hunt for a killer in the middle of a snow storm. After one woman is drugged and taken into the forest, but luckily escapes; the whole town is on alert. But it only gets worse when another woman goes missing. Casey and Eric must found her, figure out who they can trust, deal with multiple issues caused by the storm, and handle the last weeks of Casey's pregnancy. It's a balancing act that will test their characters and the town of Haven's Rock itself.

It was great to return to this familiar setting and to once again follow along with Casey as she must work with limited resources in the midst of a harsh Yukon winter in her sanctuary town where everyone is running from something and secrets abound. I loved the addition of her pregnancy within this story and the myriad of challenges that go along with that. It's always great when we get the human side of Casey and Eric's characters as a balance to the policing procedural aspects of these books. I especially enjoy the development of their relationship and their ability, without a lot of drama, to meet whatever challenges life throws at them and to compromise when necessary to meet both of their needs. As for the crime in this one, it was particular shocking, but handled well. Kelley Armstrong does not sugar-coat violence, but neither does she over-dramatize or over-describe it. I did not predict the ending here which is also fun; although I do think that some mystery readers probably will catch on earlier.

I recommend this book and this series as a whole to mystery lovers, people who enjoy cold, northern settings, or those looking for a tough yet relatable female narrator. The town of Haven's Rock will keep you coming back book after book as you become invested in its purpose and enamored with its residents.

Haven's Rock is a town in the Yukon comprised of people who need to disappear from the regular world. Detective
Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton are concerned about a town resident who was ddugged and
dragged into the woods. Fortunately, another resident rescued.her. When she is later found dead and ligature marks
are discovered on her body, town resident's' alibis are eytablished and verified. However, it is evident that even
though the town residents have been screened before coming to Haven's Rock, one of them is a killer.

I will always read any book from this series, but this one was especially suspenseful! The mystery was intriguing & the personal story was also filled with peril. A top notch novel, but I do think you will enjoy it much more if you’ve read the whole series!

Yet again, Kelly absolutely slayed the next book in her Haven's Rock series. Cold as Hell had me gripped from the first page, and I was completely clueless as to what would happen next. There is no shortage of twists and turns in this book, which is so classic for this series.

Casey & Eric have been some of my favourite book characters for YEARS. I was obsessed with them in Rockton, and that has continued on throughout this series. Their banter, support, and passion for their community is felt in every aspect while reading this.

Cold as Hell is an absolute must read, and if you're seeing this and haven't read Rockton - start there. Do it.

“Cold as Hell” proves that lightning can strike twice, delivering another satisfying and masterfully written thriller featuring the dynamic duo Casey and Eric. The premise and mystery the two face throughout, including their impending parenthood was well written and very solid. It’s a page turner of a novel that kept me reading all throughout the night. Few authors manage to maintain the strength and appeal of a series from start to finish-Kelley Armstrong is one of the few exceptions. I would highly recommend this book.

Havens rock series will stay one of my top favorites. It has the twists, turns, and edge of your seat moments that you want in a book. You pick it up and won't put it back down

I always throughly enjoy a Haven's rock book. I like how the lines are always a little blurred and how there is always a grey area around the rules. The author did a great job allowing Casey to show some pregnancy symptoms such as the brain fog but still having her be the strong woman we know she is. I really enjoy the how much communication is important between Casey and Dalton. I hope we stay in Haven's Rock for a long time and have many more books about it and its characters.

I was so excited to get an advance copy of the next book in Kelley Armstrong’s Haven’s Rock series and this one did not let me down!

Casey, the detective in a secret small town in Yukon (a refuge of sorts) is heavily pregnant when a resident of the town is seemingly drugged and narrowly escaped being attacked on the edge of town. As Casey tries to figure out who is responsible, the body of another resident is discovered nearby.

The Haven’s Rock series is one of my faves (a continuation of the Rockton series) and this book might be my favourite yet. Casey’s high risk pregnancy adds an extra layer of urgency to this novel, and I was on the edge of my seat rooting for her and Dalton to solve the crimes before the baby comes.

The characters in this series are so rich and vivid in my head - the author has done an amazing job developing them over the course of both series, and you truly feel immersed in the Yukon wilderness during these books. Every Kelley Armstrong book is a 5 star read, and this one is no different. I highly recommend picking up this series (start with the Rockton series) and read this one as soon as you can!

5/5 stars ⭐️

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!

My favourite author!! Always a page turner and this book didn’t disappoint. Couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next book

As a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong and the Haven's Rock series, I eagerly anticipated Cold As Hell, the third book. This series, spun off from Rockton, retains Detective Casey Duncan as narrator, with each installment offering a self-contained mystery and consistent main characters. In Cold As Hell, Casey and Dalton tackle a complex case under pressing circumstances - a blizzard, a kidnapping, and a heinous murder - all while Casey navigates her difficult pregnancy. Talk about an anxiety ride!

Armstrong effectively transports readers into the heart of the storm, crafting an atmosphere of tension and suspense. While some background information is provided, familiarity with the series enhances character understanding. The narrative masterfully balances tension and release, culminating in an engrossing and emotionally resonant conclusion that leaves readers eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Thank you so much for the opportunity!

Can't go wrong with Rockton/Havens Rock or Kelley Armstrong. Had the killer figured out but still a few twists. Will continue to follow the series!

Reading a New Haven's Rock novel is like coming home after a long absence. I am always so excited to find out what Casey, Dalton, and Storm have been up to since the last time we spent time together. In this installment, it was no surprise to find out that trouble was brewing in town! I really enjoyed getting to know this new community that Casey, Dalton, and friends are building. The new location and the new combination of residents brings a new dynamic to this series which has been a favorite of mine since the first Rockton book was published. Read this one on a blustery snowy day if you can!

The environment is harsh and the judgements are final, but this is a more peaceable community than you find around here these days. I really like the idea of a sanctuary town where the inhabitants are vetted before joining the community, and that the staff are the leaders chosen to join the colony because of their skills. If this doesn't exist, maybe it should to help reform our inmates - could do a better job than our overcrowded prison system. Even with the criminal backgrounds, the crimes were so unexpected and scary. Armstrong masterfully blends the emotional tension of impending delivery, the shock of an attack and murder in a closed community, and a storm descending upon this frozen town. I could not put the book down once I started it. I finished it pretty quickly because, every time I thought I was at a break, something else happened that pulled me in deeper. A town full of intense characters and perilous events makes this a real page-turner! This is an author to follow!

Cold as Hell is the 3rd Haven's Rock book and I don't recommend starting here. In fact, I feel readers are best served by starting with City of the Lost which is the first book in her Rockton series. There is a lot of backstory that definitely makes a difference in the reading experience.

What amazes me about Kelley Armstrong and these two series, is that she can write such compelling thrillers with such a limited character pool, a very small setting, and based on the nature of the genre, a minute window of believability (how many murders can there be??). Cold as Hell succeeds in providing another fresh mystery for Casey to solve.

I did give this book a lower rating than normal. Normally I enjoy the POV, but I got really tired of hearing Casey's thoughts and justifications in this one. I hope Armstrong finds a way to switch it up in the future.
I also struggled with the big scene at the end...no spoilers here, so I'll just say I struggled with the plausibility of the whole scene. Plus, Casey made some really dumb decisions which were a bit out of character. We do get a detailed explanation of her thought process, but even then, I wasn't buying it. Still, I'm curious to see what's next for the group and look forward to book 4.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC. I'm sharing my review voluntarily.

This book was pretty good! I wish there had been more information about the compound so I didn’t have to puzzle it out, but all in all a pretty great mystery! The characters were really well written and the twist was impressive. I didn’t feel like I had read this book before, which is always a plus.
