I can relate to snail and his friend, Stump. Staycations are great fun - and new arrivals make them more so. I think this will make a great read aloud for multi-age groups. The simple language and colorful illustrations will hold the interest of younger listeners, while older readers will get the humorous play on words and ideas. A fun book!
Cute little book that shows its okay to like what you want and be who you want to be to have the best time. Loved the illustrations too!
I so relate to Snail and his buddy, Stump. Going places is exhausting. Cities are loud and overwhelming. Sometimes what your really need is a nice staycation. To just stay home and enjoy your life and the world around you. There's so many adventures you could go on right in your own backyard. A cute story with wonderful illustrations! Loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
3.75 stars rounded up! This was a sweet story that will appeal to introverts and homebodies of all ages! The illustrations (especially the “I ❤️ here” mug”) were my favorite part. There wasn’t anything that threw it over the top to five stars for me, but it was good. If any of my kids turn out to be homebodies, I could see this having a place on our shelves!
Thanks so much to Owlkids, the author and NetGalley for the eARC!
Cute story about finding adventure everywhere. My kids would have liked this story. Littles would enjoy this.

HOW TO STAYCATION LIKE A SNAIL is an absolutely delightful book that will capture the hearts of both kids and adults alike. The story centers around a charming snail and his friends, who decide to have a staycation, turning their little world into a place full of fun and adventure.
The illustrations are undeniably cute, bursting with vibrant colors and whimsical details that bring its tiny inhabitants to life. Every page is a feast for the eyes, with the artist capturing the joy and excitement of the characters as they explore their surroundings. The expressions on the faces of the snail and his friends are simply adorable, making it impossible not to smile as you turn each page.
While not quite as charming as Party Like a Snail, it was still a delightful read. I was charmed by Snail and Stump finding excitement in their own area and the idea of adventure being anywhere, even home. The illustrations were sweet and colorful.
This is a charming book about accepting different traveling preferences and appreciating what you have in front of you. I enjoyed how present the characters were as well as the friendships made.
Thank you NetGalley and Owl Kids Books for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Snail sets off on vacation but is overwhelmed by the noise and activity level in town. He makes his way home slowly, and discusses having a Staycation instead with his friend, Stump. The forest’s serenity seems perfect but both Snail and Stump fear they’ve seen all there is to see at home. Unexpected visitors show them that home is always changing but always comforting, too!
Kudos to an author who has addressed the need some kids have for peace and quiet! Some one-liners may be directed at adults but the theme is clear: being different is absolutely okay!
Not everyone is comfortable with all the over-the-top traveling and vacations. Staycation Like a Snail is a gentle reminder it's fine staying or going but you get to choose your adventure. And, adventures can be found at home, too.
Stump and Snail are pretty funny as they look around their surroundings and find things that bring them joy. They even have vacationers come to their home and find it amazing.
All in all it is a very sweet book that will present to the early reader or listener, vacation is where you make it. The soft drawings are cute and not overly stimulating as they stay in muted fall colors.
Thank you to Owlkids Books for an early electronic copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The second instalment of the Snail series, How to Staycation Like a Snail is a great book with a wonderful message about appreciating the ordinary. It offers another perspective for kids who might not be going on a big summer vacation and validates the feelings of kids, and adults, who might not enjoy the hustle and bustle of travel. Great humour, terrific word bubbles, and fun illustrations add to the fun of this read aloud. It would be terrific to read right before or after summer vacation at school, or during the summer by families at home.
2.5 stars, I rounded up for the positive message. It's a nice little short story/picture book about enjoying staying in your own familiar surroundings....it really illustrates a very nice message. The drawings are prettily colored, but the e copy that I received may have formatted oddly....leaving some pages blank or a black square & others with just a line on it.......so that was kind of 'distracting'.
I received an e-ARC from publisher Owlkid Books via NetGalley for review purposes.
In this follow up book to "How to Party Like a Snail!" readers follow Stump and Snail on their staycation. Stump and Snail enjoy quieter activities closer to home and find new and interesting things to explore where they live. This title is great for demonstrating how different individuals enjoy and thrive in different environments, and how we can all engage in an inclusive way and enjoy a vacation within our own comfort levels.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and lovable. I can't wait to read more by this author!
A delightful book all kids will enjoy but perhaps most relatable to those who experience sensory overload. A celebration of the quiet and simple and all the wonderful things you can discover over time just staying in one spot. Doesn’t discourage exploration of the wider world but allows for the appreciation of slowing down, sitting quietly and using our senses to notice all the wonders that can be found close to home by ourselves or even with friends. Delightfully illustrated this book is sure to be enjoyed by children of a wide variety of ages.
What a cute & fun story! I want to stay cation like a snail for sure. Perfect timing for me to read this during my stay cation too! The kids at my library will love this!
Thank you to NetGalley and OwlKids Books for my gifted copy.
This was such a fun book with a great message. You do not always need to leave your home to have an adventure. There can be an adventure in your own home and backyard.
I loved the pictures in this one too. A great read for little ones.
I received an electronic ARC from Owlkids Books through NetGalley.
Snail is back and enjoying vacation. He cheers on his friends who head to city but knows he doesn't want to go himself. I love that he has explored and learned what he likes. Together with Stump, they enjoy a staycation and explore their home. They are surprised by visitors who arrive from not that far away to enjoy the sights too. The book finishes with them launching their new adventure. Readers will enjoy the humor and some will identify with the need for quiet and staying home. The illustrations capture the joy to be found as well as how overwhelmed Snail was when he traveled early in the book. A fun read before breaks and vacations.
**Thank you to OwlKids Books in conjunction with SLJ Picture Book Palooza for the ARC. This in no way changed my rating**
My absolute FAVORITE picture book of all-time is [book:How to Party Like a Snail|60667702]. I love that it was a nod to neurodivergent or introverted kids who may feel isolated from their more extroverted classmates and that they can still "party in their hearts". So imagine how excited I was to find my beloved snail is getting a sequel!
In this one, Snail (joined by his friend, Stump) are adventurous, but not so adventurous that they want to leave their forest. They find things to do that are fun at home. Along the way, they make some new friends who also want to staycation. The story hits a lot of the same beats as the original, but has it's own fun twist at the end. I can't wait to see this one in print.
From the author that brought us How to Party Like a Snail comes another installment of our lovable introverted character Snail as he navigates creating his perfect staycation. Snail loves an adventure, but only certain quiet parts like map reading, listening carefully to the sounds of nature, and collecting souvenirs. Other adventures can contain too much noise, and overwhelm Snail, and he declines his friends offers to travel and experience new places. But Snail and his friend Stump decide that instead of traveling somewhere to vacation, they will explore the sights and quiet sounds of the world around their home. I loved Hrab's first book with Snail, and this book didn't disappoint! I love how Snail's character is more introverted, and shares ways that life can be enjoyed more quietly. I think that this book and Snail share with children that being themselves is more important than throwing themselves in uncomfortable situations that others enjoy. A wonderfully illustrated social-emotional picture book!
