I have little knowledge of Hassidic Jews, but as a novice, this appears to be accurate. One thing I really liked is that the Hassidic Jews are not portrayed as caricatures . Dahl has either lived in such community or done a lot fo research. Each person was a separate identity, not cookie-cutter like.
