I've read everything that Noelle Holten has written before and I've loved all her work, so I was delighted to have the opportunity to read and review His Truth Her Truth. As with her other novels, Noelle Holten uses her extensive knowledge of the justice system and experience of working with vulnerable people to create a really engaging and twisty story.

The central characters of His Truth Her Truth are Joe and Beth. The chapters are written alternately from both their perspectives. This gives the reader the chance to see what happened from both sides of the story, and this helps to build the sense of secrecy, uncertainty and manipulation. I had no idea which characters were telling the truth, who to trust or what had happened and I simply had to keep reading to find out!

Noelle Holten's writing is incredibly fast paced and the chapters are short, which makes the novel very difficult to put down! The plot is very clever and well constructed and I loved how it kept me on my toes. I thought I had everything worked out but I was very wrong and there were some revelations that made my jaw drop!

This author goes from strength to strength and I can't wait to see what she does next!

Absolutely spellbinding! I loved this excellent psychological thriller. The narrative is told in short snappy chapters, from two viewpoints Joe and Beth, who are desperate characters each with their own agenda. I thought it absorbing and gripping with lots of drama and surprises. I loved the intrigue building up to the final conclusion. Highly recommended.

Well written storyline with some very unlikeable characters.
Red herrings and twists dotted here and there.
Although slow to start with once it going i flew through desperate to find out the outcome.

His Truth Her Truth by Noelle Holten tells the story of Beth and her fiance Joe. After her father dies, Beth struggles to cope, and after turning to drink to drown her sorrows, she finds herself drifting apart from Joe. Joe has his own problems too: running a company is stressful, and that's the very least of his problems. But when the police find them both stabbed, hanging on for dear life in their own home, it's clear something very dark has gone on between them. But what? Will we ever get to the truth?

His Truth Her Truth is not without faults, some more glaring than others. The book can't decide if the receptionist of Beth's workplace is called Glyn or Gwyn for instance, and there are plenty of loose ends that never really go anywhere. The former is likely a proofing error still to be picked up, and as for the latter, perhaps some of those are purposeful: After all, when people die, their secrets go with them.

Problems aside though, I still lapped up His Truth Her Truth. Its chapters are short which makes them easy to get through, and every one of the book's mysteries will make you eager to keep reading to try and find out the truth.

Neither main character is particularly likeable: Beth is something of an unreliable narrator which adds an extra layer of tension and suspense to the proceedings, while Joe is just downright self-involved and rather unlikeable. Still, I found myself rooting for them both and wanting everything to work out. You'll have to read it for yourself to see if it does.

Despite its issues, I still very much enjoyed His Truth Her Truth. It's worth picking up if you want an easy to digest domestic thriller with plenty of mystery and numerous twists and turns along the way.

I didn’t like Joe or Beth at all and it was like the author kept making them more and more reprehensible to make them more unlikable. It was like the supporting characters were also so bad in order to create red herrings-there was nothing subtle about it. Because it got good ratings, though, I expected a shocking reveal at the end. Unfortunately it hit with a thud instead. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Few authors know how to keep a reader glued to its pages but Holton does this perfectly.

Joe and Beth have secrets...lots of them.. and when they are both found dead, each with a knife in their hands these secrets come to life and shock everyone.

This is a brilliantly plotted read. I found myself changing my mind at every turn about what would happen next and did not guess correctly. It is well written and filled with suspense and intrigue.

As someone who devours crime fiction, this book immediately stood out as a masterclass in tension, emotional depth, and narrative complexity. Noelle Holten has done it again, delivering a chilling and disturbingly real story of grief, manipulation, and devastating assumptions that spiral out of control.

The story opens with a scene of utter chaos—two bodies, two knives, and far more questions than answers. Joe, a compassionate and driven charity worker, and Beth, a dedicated paralegal, appear to have been caught in a domestic dispute turned deadly.

But as the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. The truth is shrouded in a web of deception, grief, and dark secrets. Holten’s writing is masterful, pulling readers into the heart of the mystery and keeping them guessing until the very last page.

Holten’s experience in the Probation Service adds a layer of authenticity to her storytelling, particularly in the way she captures the ripple effects of grief, mental health struggles, and systemic challenges. Her ability to handle sensitive topics like trauma, vulnerability, and domestic abuse with such care and emotional intelligence sets this book apart.

What truly gripped me was the way Holten explored the power of assumptions and appearances. The characters are layered and deeply human, with motivations and flaws that make them feel heartbreakingly real. Each twist added to the mounting tension, and I found myself constantly questioning what I thought I knew about the characters and their circumstances.

I physically couldn’t put this book down—the twists and turns demanded my full attention, and the final reveal left me speechless. It’s a story that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page, challenging your perceptions and making you think about the fragility of truth in the face of grief and tragedy.

If you haven’t yet discovered Noelle Holten’s work, His Truth Her Truth is the perfect place to start. And for those already familiar with her brilliant storytelling, don’t miss her equally thrilling and addictive Maggie Jamieson series.

Highly recommended for fans of authentic, hard-hitting crime fiction. This book is a masterpiece of emotional and psychological suspense. Bravo, Noelle Holten!

Unfortunately both Joe and Beth have kept secrets from each other and everyone else they know. Neither of them are particularly likeable characters but do they deserve to die?

Gladstone Village is a quintessentially English picture perfect place to live, except, this night its peace is disrupted by violent events at the rustic charm of a semi detached property. What happens between Joe Trasker and Beth Stanford? His truth or her truth? Settle back, tune in or observe carefully as they tell it their way.

This is a bit of a ‘ game of two halves’ for me. I like the alternating points of view which adds to the confusion and difficulty of sifting through the maelstrom of each life. The tone is dark, there are a ton of lies, deception and a great deal of self delusion so it’s hard to know who to believe which keeps me engaged. Neither character is especially likeable, Beth is chock full of issues, many of which are not her fault, but she doesn’t help herself as much as she should. At times her behaviour is definitely very questionable. Joe is very detached, so as a couple it’s an odd pairing as they’re poles apart which is quite intriguing and it’s obvious that there’s much more going on than meets the eye.

I find the first half much more compelling than the second. The story line begins to drag in my opinion and becomes too drawn out. There are plenty of twists but maybe here there’s too many (?) and I work out who is behind the dramatic events without too much difficulty. Some of the events are a bit of a stretch, but hey, it is fiction. Some of the characterisation doesn’t feel authentic. This is particularly true of the police officers involved and some of the dialogue doesn’t ring true either.

Overall, it’s not a bad read by any means but it doesn’t wow me.

Another brilliant psychological thriller - I love how Noelle's books are getting darker and darker, making for brutal reading at times.

In His Truth Her Truth a classic psychological thriller plays out with the reader having no idea who can be trusted as the story unfolds. My views changed with each chapter and it wasn't helped by both lead characters appearing to be jolly decent folk with honourable jobs.

I enjoyed the narrative around each of them but found Beth hugely frustrating!

I raced through this book, in fact I think I galloped through the first half! I had no handle on what was coming next and found myself doubting all the wrong people. Or did I? Psychological thrillers mess with my mind and I find myself questioning everything and everyone and Noelle is the queen of tricky plot points and mis-direction.

A very slow burn whilst being an enjoyable read throughout.
The tension builds well, although I did think it could have been a little shorter but nonetheless a well thought out and exectued thriller.

I found the first half of the book very slow and almost gave up on it but then the pace picked up quickly and I guess that might have been deliberate on the author who was slowly building the tension, none of the characters were particularly appealing but again that added to the storyline and what a great ending. I have read all the author’s other books and I did after a while enjoy the change in her writing style.

Reading the synopsis of this one, I was really looking forward to it however it didn't fully work for me.

I think the story started out well however it all became a bit too rushed. Like it was too eager to be a page-turner that it missed out on being more of a domestic thriller which I think would have worked better.

I will look out for more from this author though

As the saying goes, there are three sides to every story: your side, my side, and the truth. In this twisty novel, whose truth will we believe?

Beth and Joe are a couple with hidden truths, and neither is alone in their struggles. As the adage goes, “write what you know,” and Holten’s brilliant writing is a testament to this principle. She skillfully weaves a fictional narrative that captivates readers, drawing them into her world and refusing to let go until the very end. That final twist had my head spinning.

His Truth Her Truth is a twisty thriller about a couple found in their home, each holding a knife and both barely clinging on to life.
The story then goes back to how this even unfolded, starting with Beth's father dying, her and her fiance Joe's relationship breaking down and many events unfolding that leave you not knowing who or what to believe or who to trust. I thought the final twist at the end was very clever, but the book dragged on a little too much for me in the first 60%, then gets very interesting. I found it very hard to warm to Beth and Joe and found them both quite selfish. Each chapter is short, making it easy to fly through, but I did feel the author had dragged out the first 50% of the book before the plot really got going. Be prepared to plow through that first half of the book as the rest is definitely worth it.

Beth and Joe plan to get married. Their relationship seems strong, until a death sends Beth to a very dark place. Oh, and Joe isn’t as attentive as you would expect a loving fiancé to be. Secrets are piling up around him and he cannot afford to take his eye off the foundation he runs.
I went back-and-forth between feeling sympathy for both of these characters and despising every bad decision that each of them made. Of course, all the while I was trying to figure out what exactly was going on. I had my suspicions, but I did not understand the whole picture until the author reveal. A story that kept me guessing and furiously flipping pages. I stayed up way too late so that I could finish His Truth, Her Truth😁
