An interesting start to a new urban fantasy series. Vampires in New Orleans certainly sounds familiar (hello, Anne Rice!), but this isn't that kind of vampire novel set in NOLA. It's entertaining, I suppose. Not my favourite Urban Fantasy, but if you're a devout fan to the series (or Painter's other books), then I'm sure you'll find something to like in here.

Kristen Painter is an amazing urban fantasy writer. Augustine is an amazingly well crafted character and one I'd love to spend time with. Harlow is not a character that you like at first, but she does grow on you and warm up as she becomes more involved with Augustine and the supporting characters. This series is a follow-up/spin-off of the House of Comarre series and is a fitting addition to the world.
