The NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit is a resource that helps members make the most of the platform, offering guidance on profiles, feedback ratios, and tips for writing reviews.

As someone who has been using NetGalley for a while, I found this to be a really helpful guide, useful both for newcomers and for those with more experience. The links are especially valuable, and the section on best practices for writing DNF reviews stood out to me, since that’s something I’ve always struggled with. The review and profile tips are also great, and I’d recommend this resource to anyone interested in reviewing advanced reader copies and helping connect readers with the right books for them.

NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit is such a valuable resource for both new and seasoned reviewers. As someone who loves sharing my thoughts on books, I really appreciated how clear, practical, and encouraging this guide is. It breaks down everything from writing reviews that resonate with both publishers and readers to building your presence across platforms like Goodreads, NetGalley, and beyond. What stood out most to me is how approachable the advice feels—it never comes across as overwhelming or overly technical. Instead, it provides straightforward steps and tips that you can immediately put into practice, whether it’s refining your review style, understanding what publishers look for, or learning how to engage more with the bookish community. I think this toolkit works as both a refresher for experienced reviewers and a confidence boost for those just getting started. It’s a quick read but packed with insights that will make any reviewer feel more prepared and connected. A must-read for anyone looking to grow as a book advocate!

This was a great introduction to NetGalley and how it works. Everything was presented in an easy to read manner and the table of contents is clickable/linked so the user can easily jump to the topic that they are looking for. It really does help make the NetGalley less overwhelming for users looking to just get started. I think it can also be handy for even more seasoned users because it includes review tips and how to better find one's review voice/style.

Some information I found to be useful was the inclusion of how to write the Bio on your NetGalley profile. I really appreciated that since sometimes I have trouble crafting what I should include and make my profile stand out more. The how to handle a DNF chart was also very valuable and helps me be better prepared in knowing how to go about the situation if I feel like I need DNF an arc.

Thank you to We Are Bookish.

Thanks We Are Bookish – this toolkit was super helpful for Reviewers starting out. It was great to see the NetGalley features I hadn't found yet, and all the tips for writing different types of reviews. The layout was easy to follow, and the supporting links to web pages provided useful deep-dive content. I feel a lot more prepared and would definitely recommend to other new reviewers, or anyone who might need a refresher.

This was a helpful overview, even for someone who has been using NetGalley for over a year now and crafting book reviews casually, off and on, for many more. While maybe not groundbreaking , they’re good reminders, especially if you’re dealing with a bit of review-block. Good resource!

Thank you, We Are Bookish, for continuing to release such helpful tutorials! I wish I’d had the forethought to find this when I first became an active NetGalley reader, but alas, I’ve always been the type to dive right in, user manuals be damned.

I’ve already incorporated several tips and tricks from this guide and will keep using its advice to improve my experience and strengthen my skills as a reviewer. I don’t want to just participate, I want to provide meaningful, thoughtful feedback.

This toolkit should be mandatory reading for anyone new to NetGalley. Learn from my mistakes. Save yourselves.

This toolkit is a great way to jump-start your NetGalley experience. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who’s new to NetGalley or arc reviewing in general. If you have a decent amount of experience, this may feel a little redundant at times (which was my experience) - but it’s still a very quick read and a nice refresher.

I wish NetGalley promoted these more to new users, because I would have gotten a lot more out of this if I had read it last year, when I first joined NetGalley.

This handbook was made very well! It was colorful and easy to navigate and read. The tips were very useful in accessing certain features and showed how to utilize others that new users may overlook. Thank you for putting this guide together for new users!

This is a short handbook providing tips to reviewers new to NetGalley. I really loved how concise this was, and easy to read! The tips and example of a good bio really helped me create a strong looking profile that will hopefully attract publishers. The explanation of feedback ratio and why it is important was also really helpful. I didn't understand the importance of feedback ratio or why I shouldn't go on a "request spree" when just starting out. I would strongly encourage anyone new to NetGalley to read this toolkit before doing anything else!

This Toolkit was really helpful in learning how to navigate NetGalley and how to write reviews, received ARCs, receive recognition for your reviews (orange pencil), and what your NetGalley score means. I appreciate their section on writing reviews the most because sometimes I feel scrambled and a format may be helpful for me. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this.
