I have read a lot of books about WW2, but this was my first one that took place in Cairo. There was so much packed into this book. Spying, journalism, refugee, Muslim brotherhood. It was at times hard to not mix things up. But it was a very captivating story.

This story was rich in historical detail and I loved the plot and characters.
Many thanks to Greenleaf Book Group and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved tales of espionage set in WWII - and this one was beautifully done with an exotic setting. The history of Egypt has always fascinated me, especially this time period - so I really apreciatedthe author's attention to historical detail.

I was extremely interested in the setting of this book: Egypt during World War II. Who has ever thought of what it was like in Egypt at the time? Well, it had never crossed my mind before, that's for sure. So I was immediately attracted to the alluring setting. However, I was greatly disappointed in the content.

A bit of the summary: It's 1941. Many Jews believed they would be safe in Egypt, away from the growing war, but really there was no way to fully escape.

NOTE to the discerning reader: There is cursing and mature themes found in both dialogue and in actions.

There's probably some great history tidbits to glean from the story, like how Hitler gifted the Egypt king with a Mercedes, or how Jerusalem was attempting to make advances in quantum physics, which I have to assume is all true – but I couldn't even think about enjoying the historical setting and detail, as I found some of the aforementioned mature content disturbing.

Overall, I personally couldn't recommend the book to anyone.

Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book; I was not required to post a review.
