So many aspects of this story make it a good read. It contains the marriage of convenience trope, an interracial couple, strong characters with interesting back stories and a plot that made me happy that this couple got their happy ever after in the end.

Although, a lot of the story consisted of the couple denying their feelings, there is some really good chemistry between them that made me look forward to the pair finally giving into their feelings. Pamela and Marcus are both very resilient characters that I mentally cheered for, as they go about righting the wrongs they've both felt their families or themselves have experienced in the past. Revenge isn't always sweet but can it help someone move forward from past mistreatment? Will Marcus's need to avenge what happened to his mother end up ruining things between him and Pamela?

Overall, Ms. Livesay penned a hot, engaging read in this book that ended well, despite what happens between the pair at the critical moment in the book where things can go good or bad. The moment where they decide to stay together or go their separate ways before finally getting their happy ever after. Marcus is a good man, the sort of man Pamela deserves in her life. In other words, no more low lives that use her because of her last name instead of seeing her for the strong, capable woman she is.

I totally like the premise of the book and the different dynamics in play. I especially liked the power dynamics which was different than what was the norm at the time this book was written. The political intrigue was on point. The romance was on point. What wasn't on point was the third act conflict where MC starts blaming the conflict on her being Black. Mind you, the entire time and I do mean the entirety of the book had no racist conflicts. Can we place the blame at the shoes of systemic racism for a lot of things occurring in the book, yes, but this wasn't the case in the book. To make the fight be about her claiming a certain treatment because she was black when the color of her skin has never been an issue, felt manipulative and if anything trivializes racism. It makes it something to fall back on when nothing else exists.

I didn't like it. It wasn't necessary. It was disappointing.

At first I really thought Marcus was a jerk but as I slowly read about him he worked his way into being an ok guy. I liked the romance between Marcus and Pamela and marriage of convenience is really my catnip. Overall I am a fan of this author and this was a really cute read.

This was my first time reading this author and I was impressed by the writing style and the story itself. It’s both sexy and sweet, and the chemistry between Pamela and Marcus was surprising to the both of them. Their interactions are well-written with no awkwardness or stilted dialogue.

I adore the cover of this book. A yummy couple. The serious issue of domestic violence is discussed from several perspectives that lends credibility and depth to the story. The author shows an excellent grasp of the life of a DC socialite and uses it heighten the strength of the characters. The lovers fight through their issues and eventually find their happily ever after.
