The Lost Boy of Santa Chionia

A winding tale of a woman determined to bring child care to Santa Chionia, ensnared in the search for lost family members of several women in town, a place where not everyone or everything is as it seems. The novel is full of mafia style influence and leads me through many moments of “wait, is that true?”

Thank you @knopf and @prhaudio for my early copies of this novel, which was published this week!

THE LOST BOYS OF SANTA CHIONIA follows Francesca, an American, as she heads to Calabria to set up a nursery school in the mountain town of Santa Chionia. She almost immediately learns of a skeleton found in town that is unidentified, as well as the stories of several lost young men from earlier in the town’s history. Franscesca then spends the majority of the novel searching for these missing boys and trying to identify that skeleton, despite the fact she is most definitely NOT the police.

If you enjoy historical fiction with strong women and stories steeped in factual interpretations and surprise endings, you will definitely enjoy this novel.

Camp NetGalley is a burst of fun for the summer to keep us all reading. Super easy instructions for participation, too.

Such a fun idea! But I forgot about the weekly activities. Need reminders. Optional notifications for next year?

I really liked the concept behind Camp NetGalley, but I do wish there were more reminders sent via email about the activities going on throughout the month. I know that they were posted on socials, but with the Instagram algorithm tending to highlight non-following material on the feed vs content from people you follow, I felt disconnected from the activities not receiving any direct information about them after downloading the Welcome Packet. That's my main feedback for the future is to somehow more directly get information about the event to participants!

I've linked my Instagram post about Homebound by Meredith Trapp, including additional graphics I made to pub the ARC which releases soon! The full review is on my GoodReads, also linked.

This is such a cute idea! I have printed out my bingo card and although I’m late, I am glad I had a chance to participate!

Enjoyed this and participating! This was fun and I look forward to doing it again! A summer challenge is definitely more fun with friends!

This was a fun way to learn more about engaging with b readers and followings. I hope to get approved for more arc this year!

This is a fun idea to encourage more people to read. I like it a lot. It's been exciting to see the different activities and everything that was planned for it. I have been doing more reading than usual. I love it!

It's a great initiative taken by Netgalley! I wasn't able to participate fully this year, but will surely join in from next year onwards.

This is such a fun idea! I would love if it were more interactive though. I can’t wait to start filling in my bingo card, but it would be nice to have an interconnected web version—where we could update our progress in real time and watch others do the same. Additionally, it could also display which books were chosen to fulfill the prompts. This would be such a fun way to get new reading recommendations!

This was fun! I wish I could have done more, but working full time and grad school are not friends with summer camps!
I look forward to do more next summer.

I really like the idea of this. ...but I feel overall execution was not as good as the NetGalley Reading Journal.

I cannot print stickers...but I would have liked the images on a printable paper sheet as I could have cut them out and glued them into my reading journal...so the alternative options would be nice.

Overall the bingo and concept was a great way to engage readers to pick up more ARCs in the summer months. I think a two month summer reading would have been great....for July and August, that would have given me more time to work on bingo etc.

I would love an event like this in winter. Not during Nov-Dec, as holiday time is always busy. But maybe Jan-Feb....Winter Adventures.

A Map would also be a good option....versus the bingo. Doesn't have to be a real map....but like a doodle one...dots connecting 4-6 various topic circles. Find a book that fits the topic... each topic getting progressively more narrowed. First one could be, pick a book with a favorite color...pick a book related to summer, pick a book from one of our camp options (I know publishers supply limited copies, but it they could also promote more indie-type books and push netgalley subscribers toward variety of titles/genres etc)

I think this is a great idea, I'm just finding that I've been too busy with other things. I am trying to get my reviews done instead. Maybe I'll try it next year if you do it again. I would also recommend maybe doing something like this in the winter months.

I was excited about this idea but I don’t think the event turned out to be what I had pictured in my mind. I wish it was a bit more interactive and I guess I was thinking more of like a book club, so that could be my mistake.

This was such a great idea! I would love to participate in something like this again. I just wish I saw it earlier since I ended up missing some of the weeks.

This is such a neat idea! I'm bummed I didn't find it until late July so I wasn't able to participate more. Would love to participate in something like this again.

Such a cool way to interact with Netgalley readers. I loved the Bingo sheet that was provided along with the Camp Netgalley sticker sheet. I cannot wait to earn my badge for Camp Netgalley! A cool crossword would be nice to see for certain book words, or anything Netgalley related.

I’ve enjoyed Camp NetGalley. I loved the bingo board & the thought of the talent show! I love the overall theme of a summer camp of NetGalley. However, I wish there had been even more interactive activities that everyone can participate in!
