Oh this book was so much fun!! I never wanted it to end. As someone who reads a LOT of romance books, this was so refreshing and also perfectly on brand for me, especially with each chapter starting with a trope definition which was a fun little touch that I appreciated! Beach Read enjoyers, this one was for us!

Mason Alvarez, my sweet perfect little guy who has never done anything wrong a day in his life!!! You are so special to me. No, but really, how often do we see a MMC whose biggest flaw is just that he loves too hard?? AND a bisexual FMC whose bisexuality is actually talked about and is an integral part of the plot and plays into some of her trust issues?? LOVE IT!!! GIVE ME MORE OF THIS!!!

Do not even get me started on the tights scene... I cannot wait for this book to come out simply because I just know the people are going to eat that up. I foresee this being an instant bookstagram/booktok hit, and I am EXCITED. Erin Connor, I was not familiar with your game!!! I cannot believe this is a debut novel, but I will be anxiously waiting to gobble up any and everything she puts out after this.

Thank you to NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Erin Connor for this ARC!!

In Erin Connor's debut novel, romance lovers will find everything they like - witty banter, fake dating, perfect spice, laugh out loud comedy, great character arcs - truly this book hit it out of the park with how entertaining it was to read and the author will become an auto-buy from me for sure. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC, the joy in reading was all my own!!

This was such a charming and fresh take on romance! A cynic romance author and a hopeless romantic out to ruin romance tropes makes for a fun and un-romantic time!

I love when characters in romance books are self-aware of their own romance tropes, it always makes me cackle. This book definitely had me laughing a lot, I loved the author's humor in her writing.

Each chapter had a little ironic definition of a romance trope at the beginning, which I really enjoyed!

Mason. Sighs. What an adorable, kind cinnamon roll of a man and I couldn't get enough of him! He was so perfect for Sawyer, and I couldn't wait for her to see it as well!

I loved how Mason and Sawyer slowly became friends and eventually, more. You can definitely see Sawyer's character growth and I felt like a proud friend at the end of the book.

I really enjoyed this and I'll definitely check out the author's future books!

What an amazing debut 🥹 The tropes and the unromantic but romantic dates !!

Sawyer and Mason meshed so well and had such great chemistry. While trying to make romantic things unromantic, their friendship bloomed and their connection grew. These two tried to ruin love each other but it simply just did not work 🙂‍↔️

Sawyer is a romance writer who no longer believes in love. When she gets stuck in an elevator with hopeless romantic Mason, they decide to help each other out. Sawyer will ruin romance for Mason while Mason will help Sawyer with her writer’s block by showing her some romance. As they continue to check things off their unromance list, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters as they fall in love with each other.

We loved the banter and chemistry between Sawyer and Mason. Their meet cute and one night stand jump starts a great friendship that blossoms into a tension-filled “when will they give into their feelings” story. They were funny, warm and charismatic and learned from their friendship as they dealt with their pasts.

If you love romance and all the tropes that go along with it, you’ll love how they are showcased here. Sawyer and Mason explore them throughout their adventures but as a reader you also see them fall into some tropes without their knowledge. It’s definitely a love letter to the romance genre!

We can’t believe this is Erin Connor’s debut novel! We can’t wait to read what she writes next as she just gained three fans!

One of the best romcoms I read last year and it’s officially out in the world today! This is a knock out debut and five star read.

A famous TV hearthrob gets dumped and to avoid swirling rumors and ensure he never gets caught up in a whirlwind romance again, he enlists the jaded romance novelist he gets stuck in an elevator with to ruin romance for him. After they have a one time one night stand to get it out of their system, Sawyer and Mason try to cure each other of romanticism and writers block, one rom com trope at a time, one “not date” at a time.

The hard part? They keep having quintessential meet cutes and their chemistry is off the charts.

Connor does an amazing job at weaving in all our favorite parts of a romance novels and I was so happy to recognize them chapter to chapter. She does this while honing in on the character depth and discovery that made Sawyer and Green jump off the page. Their chemistry was incredible and I will never get over the tights scene *knuckle bites*

Thanks @readforeverpub for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a gem of a debut novel. I just loved it! It is so easy to love Sawyer and Mason and get caught up in the (un)romance.

I like how she kind of flipped the script and make Mason the more emotional and. needy partner and Sawyer more standoffish. But their commitment to killing romance while simultaneously falling in love was just excellent.

This is an ode to every cheesy romance cliche and it reminds you why we love them so much! Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s gave me special insight into every romance movie/book mentioned. I especially liked how she took the notecard from Love, Actually and made them a not creepy gesture. Thank you!

Totally recommend this one and looking forward to more from this author!

This is a delightful fit for readers who adore lighthearted, humorous romance stories with a touch of celebrity charm, holiday magic, and a dash of friends-to-lovers and author-celebrity romance, making it a perfect pick for those seeking a fun, feel-good read.

I loved how every chapter had the definition of different tropes. It was so cute and totally made the chapter overview work together. I loved the secret identity and the way they fell for each other. I especially especially loved that they found each other through their faults. It was such relief that his perspective was so overly passionate about her. I loved that the author showed how writing can be such a deep dive and sometimes lonely existence.

I love the ending and how it all organically came together. Yes, the third act breakup sucked but it was worth it!

I *loved* this book. It has everything I look for in a contemporary romance! Tropes! Great Characters! A fun plot!

It was love at first sight for me from Sawyer and Mason’s meet cute. I loved their dynamic instantly and it just ramped up. I also really liked how the author flipped gender stereotypes on their head: the MMC was the hopeless romantic and the FMC was the one jaded by love. Watching the tension build and them trying to resist each other had me kicking my feet and giggling the whole time.

The structure of the book was fantastic and really unique. Each chapter title is a different trope, which gave you a clue about what was going to happen in the chapter— which was SO fun!

What a debut from Erin Conner! I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Read if you like:

"(Un)Romance - Trying to ruin romantic cliches only to become them. (And that's ok, actually)"

I'm not sure who I love more Mason or Sawyer? This book had me hooked from the beginning. I mean come on Erin what you did to us, putting a hopeless romantic and sweet MMC in an elevator with a jaded romance author MFC and they get stuck.....👩‍🍳💋

Mason loves...well love but can't find someone to stay in love with him. Sawyer is not a fan and doesn't feel worthy of love and it's blocking her initial romance book success. So what do they do, pair up to ruin love for Mason and show Sawyer love exists. It was a true joy going on this adventure with them.

"Stop trying to Mrs. Bennet me! I'm in possession of no fortune, and I'm not in want of a husband or wife or partner." 🤣

They make a list and of course rule #2 no physical stuff 🙄 we all know how that's going to end....all I have to say without spoiling is those tights. 😮

"Trust me. Right now, she not only has her cake, but she's eating it with a large glass of milk that you gave her for free."

The references to past rom-coms brilliant, grand gestures abundant and all emotional things in between. I love how they didn't solve all of life's problems for the HEA but improved on themselves individually to be their true self for the other person.

"I think you might be my favorite person, Mason Alexander"

The side characters and let's be honest the friendshipulent was a character in and of itself made the book all the better. I encourage any true romance reader to pick this up when it releases this month ❤️

This was a fun read that had me swooning and giggling to myself. Erin’s writing was compelling and flowed well, highlighting Sawyer’s hilarious inner monologue and Mason’s soft pining.

Sawyer was easy to love and felt so relatable. Mason was adorable and an A+ book boyfriend. Their connection was fun romantically, but their friendship was really my favourite part.

If you like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Friends With Benefits/No Strings Attached, I feel like you’d love this book. It has witty banter, steamy romance, loveable main characters, and a gorgeous cover!

Thanks to NetGalley, Forever, and Erin for this ARC.

Okay this is a perfect book for people who love too watch romance books as if those are soul foods!!

The premise of the book was quite interesting and I just could not put it down.

I absolutely enjoyed the characters and how their characters were given so much depth and taste.

The starting of each chapter gave as a hint as to what was about to happen, making it a lot interesting for me a reader to just continue reading.

he love between the characters felt pure and honest and I just enjoyed reading this book.

I'm not usually a romance reader, romantasy is usually as close as I can get, but every once in a while (usually once a year) there’s a romance book that slips into my TBR and makes me rethink my genre choices. This reminds me a lot of You, Again which is the only other romance book I've really enjoyed. I found both characters relatable, and I really didn't have to suspend my disbelief too much which is usually my problem with romance. Nor did it make me feel bad about myself because the characters were too much or made me sad. I thought it was the perfect mix of lighthearted and funny while having good character and plot development. The relationship was really interesting and it had me giggling and kicking my feet. I feel like this would also make a really good audiobook. Overall I would highly recommend this one

Thanks to NetGalley, Forever and Erin Connor for this e-ARC that I chose to read and review

I really enjoyed the banter in this book!! It had me hooked from the very beginning. I felt myself relating to the FMC more and more. The dates were all super cute and detailed without being overdone. I was pleasantly surprised with the spice in this story but thought that it flowed well with the story. The tension built perfectly and the characters dialogue really hit in these moments.

This was honestly a spectacular debut for Erin Connor. I legitimately went and looked up what other books she had written, only to be met with the fact that this is only her first book and I'll probably have to wait so long for another book by her 😭. The writing was just so inviting from the very first page, and I just never wanted to put the book down.

Now that I've gotten ahead of myself a bit 😅... this story follows Sawyer, a jaded romance writer who believes that love is only fictional, and Mason a TV heartthrob who has a hard time falling in love to quickly with the wrong people. After an elevator meet-cute, and a saucy one night stand they think they will never see each other again, that is until the obviously do lol. This is when the pair decide that they can form a mutual beneficial relationship where Mason can give Sawyer inspiration for her next book, and Sawyer can help ruin romance for Mason so he can quit falling in love with every woman he meets. They conquer all the fictional romance tropes in their quest to "unromance" Masons life, and give Sawyer back the romance influence she needs to write her next book... but things might get a little messy along the way for these two 😏

Sawyer was such a relatable character for me, with her cynicism towards love while also eating up roamnce in any form that she could find. And I absolutely adore Mason and his honestly rose colored glasses when it comes to love philosophy. They were the perfect pairing, and exactly what the other needed 🥹

And may I say, the "unromance" journey was FANTASTIC. All the romance tropes brought such a cinematic almost 80's romcoms vibe to this book that worked so well. Sawyer and Mason's effortless banter, and undeniable chemistry made this such a breeze to read.

One little thing that I really loved were the little term "definitions" that would come up at the start of every chapter. Like for instance, “Chapter One: THE MEET-CUTE – The love interests meet. It’s cute. It upends their entire lives.“ It was such a cute touch, and they just got better as the book went on.

Also the sexual tension after Sawyer and Mason made their pact to have "no feelings & no sex", after having already had a one stand was off the charts! I was worried that the insta-lust was going to kill the vibe for the rest of the book, but honestly it made it so much better. Since they both knew how well they were physically together, it really brought the heat up when that option was no longer on the table 😏.

Additionally I love that Sawyer was Bi and how it was written in so organically. No fuss, no muss, and it was just so refreshing 🙏🏼🥹. That isn't to say that her queer journey was this perfect fairy tale, (quite the opposite honestly), but the way that it was integrated into the story was really nice.

The only thing that got to me is that we basically had not one, but TWO miscommunication (not quite break up's because they were never really dating) moments towards the end. I thought once we got through the first one, that it was going to be smooth sailing but no such luck. As much as it annoyed me, I did understand it to a certain degree. It made up for it in the end with a lovely grand gesture/groveling scene that really wrapped things up nicely, so I suppose that's all that matters! 🤗

I would absolutely recommend this one, it really was such a lovely read and I can't wait to read more from Erin Connor in the future! 💞

Star Rating: 3.5
Pace: Slow
Format: eARC
Genre: Romance

My Take: Unromance was a fun book to read that I literally forgot everything about right after reading. Main character names, don't remember (had to look them back up), city it was set in - also forgot. Whatever, none of that matters.

This book was an easy, quick, and enjoyable read. You know EXACTLY what you are getting yourself into. The tall, dark, and handsome Golden Retriever man meets a gorgeous, spitfire, if not completely disenchanted woman. They have a meet-cute, discuss said meet-cute, run into each other after and decide to help each other out if you know what I mean....just kidding, she tries to break him of falling for every woman and he helps her with her writers block. You'll get banter, smut, jokes, a cute friendship, and enjoyable side-characters.

It's a Hallmark movie in written form, and I can't say that I was mad about it. It's just nothing incredibly unique.

Thank you for the ARC copy. Unfortunately, the book was not for me. The first few chapters did nothing to pique my interest and the dialogue was very cringy.

I knew I was going to like this one when the main characters met for the first time.

When they met for the second time (same night, few minutes apart), I knew I was going to lose interest.

I wouldn't say there's necessarily anything bad about this but to me it felt boring. Maybe it was the insta-love/lust and the constant denial of what they wanted got to me.

Nevertheless, it was a good holiday read if you're in the mood for it.

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book! I love a good celebrity / non-celebrity romance and this was a great one. So many excellent romance tropes trying to be "ruined." Sawyer and Mason are a great couple with so much chemistry!! It was funny and fun with great characters, and I love that it is set around the holidays too!
