What a fun romance. I had such a good time reading this book. Would recommend it if someone was looking for a fun rom-com.

Rating: 4.5⭐️ rounded up

This was such a cute (and spicy) story of Mason, an actor, who can’t stop falling in love and Sawyer, a romance author, who has given up on romance completely. They’re both trying to change their outlook towards romance and decide to go on one trope filled fake date after another.

This was like a love letter to romances, both movies and books. They take many scenes from movies to replicate and I loved the sassy trope definitions at the beginning of each chapter that was relevant to their current situation.

Their romance was super sweet. As the book also points out, everyone else can tell they’re in love except for them for quite a while, and it was fun to go along these dates with them, watching them be super cute and clueless. These dates also gave them a chance to get to know each other better and really build a solid friendship before they got to the relationship stage. Their chemistry was palpable from the first page, and the Christmas dinner scene 🥵!!!

I loved that they both gave each other the space to rock in their careers. Especially Mason with Sawyer, since she has a tendency to block everything out when she’s working, and she deserved to be with someone who would give her the space to do that.

I’m also a sucker for any story where someone manages to break down the thick walls of another, especially if that other person has completely given up on romance. Mason really managed to get Sawyer out of her grumpy shell and accept love into her heart. So heartwarming!

Other scattered notes: I loved the personal growth both of them went through, especially as it related to their past relationships. I loved the bi representation with Sawyer, I think the book highlighted her identity as a whole. Her meeting his ex was one of my favorite non-romantic scenes.

Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC!

Read If You Like:
- Romantic comedies
- classic romance tropes
- Stories about writers and actors
- Humorous and steamy narratives
- Opposites-attract romances

A bestselling romance novelist grappling with writer's block and a broken heart after a painful breakup crosses paths with a hopeless romantic and television star reeling from a public split. Their chance encounter leads to a unique pact: together, they'll reenact classic rom-com scenarios in an effort to cure his idealistic views on love and reignite her creative spark.

Their agreement to avoid further intimacy and resist falling in love takes them through a series of humorous and heartfelt situations, from staged meet-cutes to orchestrated grand gestures. As they navigate these contrived dates, the chemistry between them becomes undeniable, challenging their initial resolve and leading to genuine emotional connection.

This story is both a celebration and a clever deconstruction of romance tropes, offering a narrative that is self-aware yet deeply sincere. The protagonists are well-developed, with relatable flaws and endearing qualities that make their journey compelling. The dialogue is sharp, the scenarios are delightfully over-the-top, and the emotional beats resonate authentically.

For readers who enjoy meta-romantic comedies that playfully yet lovingly critique the genre, this book offers a delightful and satisfying experience.

Thanks so much to Forever Pub for my gifted copy!

Unromance by Erin Conner was a fun rom com with the fake dating/friends-to-lovers trope. Sawyer, a bestselling romance author suffers from writers block and a broken heart after a painful breakup. She meets Mason, a TV heartthrob in a stalled elevator that leads to a one-night stand. Despite their attempt to keep it casual they continue to cross paths. Their dynamic turns into a friends with benefits type relationship which made for some sizzling chemistry and cute banter along the way! I would rate this book a solid 3 stars. While I really enjoyed the chemistry between Sawyer and Mason, I felt the plot was a little predictable. Overall it was a fun quick read and the cover is absolutely gorgeous!

One of my favorite things to read about is a re-emerging sense of hope when one is climbing out of a, likely, depressive hole. There's something so universal about the type of emotional comeback story that allows characters to thrive again without it ever feeling overdone or cliche. Both main characters are stuck in a different ruts, but turn out to be exactly the push the other needs to heal and grow. They're not each other's cures, but they are each other's perfect person. The one that seeps into your bones, the one that becomes the human equivalent of a comforting weighted blanket, the one that is never work to love.

I wish that some of the writing was smoother, less awkward, with better word choices. It did impact the flow of some scenes and took me out of the moment, but the core of the story was interesting, if a bit frustratingly paced at times.

This was a romance with a definite meet cute moment. I loved Mason and he and Sawyer had great chemistry. Sawyer is a romance author with a deadline and a massive writer’s block and Mason is an actor. They devise a plan to stop Mason from being such a romance lover and to get Sawyer over her writer’s block. Their encounters were fun and the story was engaging. Overall I really enjoyed this one.

Sawyer and Mason have their very own meet-cute getting stuck in an elevator together. But it's more of a not meet-cute since Mason has sworn off relationships after his latest breakup, which has the tabloids working overtime dissecting all his past relationships, and Sawyer isn't in the market for one. She needs inspiration for her next novel more than she needs to fall in love. She does everything possible to get Mason to fall out of love with love. Neither one thought the opposite would happen.

This was a great unromance romance story! It was humorous and light-hearted. The banter was good. The story was a general mood lifter.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

What happens with a romance writer who is anti-romance meets a Hollywood heartthrob obsessed with romance? Pure entertainment for readers.

"Unromance" by Erin Connor is a fun take on fake dating and while we all know how that trope ends, you can't help but root for Sawyer and Mason. The chemistry is sizzling and the adventure along the way is humorous.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for gifting me this ARC. I enjoyed it.

This was a solid romance! Sawyer and Mason are both interesting and likable characters, and I always love a romance where one person is famous. The premise of the story was fun to read, and the supporting characters were funny (I wish we had been able to get to know them better). I do think the chemistry was kind of lacking between Sawyer and Mason, but I enjoyed the story enough that it didn't matter that much to me. Thank you NetGalley and Forever for this ARC!

Unromance by Erin Connor was a wonderful time the entire way through. Mason and Scarlett were equal parts lovable and flawed, which had me rooting for the two of them individually and as a couple. There was a robust cast of side characters who were fleshed out and had distinct personalities, making the whole thing even more fun. If you like books about writers or books with a famous/non famous pairing, then you should check this one out.

It killed me that I didn't love this book more - it was such a great premise, and an amazing cover! And don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike it - I enjoyed the plot, and the characters, but there was just something missing for me to rate it higher. I will still be checking out Erin's next release though!

Sawyer and mason are the perfect book boyfriend and girlfriend. I adored all the romance book tropes as themes for each chapter. The book was light hearted and meant for a good Christmas/holiday read. As the reader you knew where the drama and sticking points would be (moves to LA?) but it was still fun to see play out. Also as a Chicagoan the book had a special place in my heart.

Okay I don't have the words to capture how much I enjoyed this book! Books about writers can feel too meta for me sometimes but this one never did. Erin Connors crafted such compelling characters that I could look past the contrived reason for their pact and just enjoy the relationship unfolding before me. I absolutely adored how they could be their true selves with each other. It was so clear how well suited they were romantically (to everyone but them lol). I had a blast watching them fall for each other. I'm very excited to see what this author releases next!

I love when I read a rom com and can totally picture it being a movie that I would curl up on the couch to watch with some chocolate and a glass of wine 🍷🍫 🎥 This was that kind of rom com.

The premise of the story is an interesting one : Sawyer is going to “ruin romance” for Mason one romantic trope at a time, all the while getting inspiration from Mason for her romance novel she is struggling to write.

It was a strangers to friends to lovers romance with a romantic golden retriever MMC and a sceptical black cat FMC. I laughed out loud at some of the banter between Mason and Sawyer. They had such a natural and fun friendship that turned into a pretty steamy, tension filled romance. I didn’t really like the conflict towards the end of the book because it felt sort of blown out of proportion but other than that I enjoyed the story and their relationship!

The cover is what first caught my eye with UNROMANCE, but quickly downloaded it from NetGalley once I read the summary. I am a sucker for the celebrity romance trope, and I was intrigued by the fact that the heroine was a romance novelist. Normally, I prefer a more slow-burn romance, but there was something about the way they started as a one-night stand and then became friends as they each help “cure” her writer’s block and his hopeless romanticism. Watching them tackle common romantic tropes together was so much fun! Their conflicting feelings on romance — he falls quickly and easily, she’s more jaded and skeptical — added a nice contrast. There’s some fun banter, a bit of steam, and an enjoyable (if a bit ridiculous) plot. It didn’t really do anything new or unique, but I had a lot of fun reading it. I’m glad I have this debut a try and look forward to seeing what Connor writes next!

This was a bit of a let down for me. I was excited to read this based on the description, but I just couldn't get into it.

ARC Review
Personally I am an hopeless romance and I enjoyed every page of this! In certain ways reminded me of a cheesy romcom. Enjoyable main characters, interesting storyline.
