A big thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This series just keeps.going. I am rereading them out of order and so randomly it is crazy. Heading up for the newest one! They are as wild as ever. It wasn't just my mood! They roll over me with a huge gambit of emotions, laughter to sadness! The antic of Charley never cease to amaze me. Really liked Uncle Bob in this one. Lol. Read these books they are worth it!! A 4 star rating.

I really could not have forseen the way that this book went. I really believed for most of the book that we were going to learn more about the family that Reyes had decided to be born into. I was absolutely shocked by the information about his past. We also learn about soulstealers.

I've struggled through the first four in the Charley Davidson series, but I'm now raising the white flag of surrender. There must be something to these books, as there are a staggering number of positive reviews. Readers seem to be lapping these stories up like a cat to cream, so I don't blame the author for continuing to crank them out. However- I am done.

I'm done with Charley being stupidly gaga over Reyes. She loses her damn mind (and all her common sense) the second he looks her way. She has a high enough opinion of herself that I don't get why she'd allow herself to be treated the way he carries on. He says he loves her, but puts her in danger. Sure, he saves her, but what's a guy to do? Maybe not use his girlfriend as bait in the first place?

Their relationship seems immature, self-serving on both sides, and doomed to implode. Maybe this is the author's intention, watching them grow into a healthy relationship as the series moves along, but I'm not going to stick around for any more of the nonsense.

Things are really heating up. This time around we still have the humor but much more romance as well as some supernatural activities that we haven’t seen before along with the promise of more. I’ve also become a huge fan of the “crossing over” scenes. This author has such a talent to portray in a few sentences the totality of a life and all the love and joy it experienced as well as the life that never felt a moment of joy or love. Both devastated me.

I’m more in love with Reyes and we got a quick look into his point of view at the end which just added to my feelings for him. Charley and her original gang have some serious shaking up in this story and again, some of it was fun and some of it was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

It’s official. I’m completely addicted to this series and the fact that each book feels original only adds to that addiction.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another fun, sexy, thrilling and emotional adventure with Charley and the gang... Loved it! Matchmaking seams, Crazy bad guys, Not exactly sane Good Guys, Scary predictions and the future of the entire world hanging in the balance! Love how these visits to this amazing world keep my guessing from beginning to end.

A naked elderly man riding shotgun, a demon purchasing souls, threats from a cartel, a murder that wasn’t, a plan to get Ubie to ask Cookie out, angry relatives, a horribly mistreated young girl and Reyes flashing the world in response to a cry from Charley – just an ordinary day in the life of Albuquerque’s own grim reaper. The hits just keep on coming for Charley – with someone threatening her (and her friends) in the middle of the night unless she finds a woman set to testify. Add to that Amber (Cookie’s 12, soon to be 13 year old daughter) skipping school and sneaking off with the very handsome, deaf, 16 year old Quentin and then lying to her mother about it, as Charley, with not enough on her plate, is needed to rescue her (them) from a persistent spirit that has Quentin near catatonic. When you mix in the captain of the police (and Ubie’s supervisor) digging around Charley’s abilities in search of some answers for himself, and Reyes constant frustrations with Charley and her determination to meet The Dealer – a daeva (demon slave) that is existing on the souls it bargains for – things are just starting to reach a crisis point…

Bugged, tailed, suspected, cornered, questioned, mocked and currently serving as the chauffeur to a man that doesn’t speak with his wife of fifty years currently super-unimpressed with his traveling companion. When you add in the half-answers that Charley is getting to her many questions, her testing new-found powers, discovering that yes, in fact, Ubie is far more clever than she or Cookie ever gave him credit for, and her own willingness to challenge dangers head-on, with plans that are about as solid as a souffle, and you get yet another action packed, snark filled story with more questions answered, more arriving and a very interesting twist at the end. Of course, along the way she makes a deal with the soul-eating demon, discovers that Pari has an interesting view of both Mr. Wong (in the corner) and Reyes, as well as having questions about (and a case to) discover the real story behind Reyes’ ‘parents’, and the opportunity to have things go horribly pear shaped pop up every few minutes. Of course, the dismay and slight censure from Rocket after her temper flare a few weeks back and things are just getting us one more step closer to the climax where answers should come and the fate of heaven and earth may just hang in the balance.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Charley Davidson continues her exploits in this newest Grave book. Darynda Jones has given Charley and her co-horts so much life that you feel as if you are in the story with them. And what a story!!! Charley is a grim reaper with all the complications that job could hold. She's also a private investigator that always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her love life is straight out of hell, since her boyfriend is the son of satan. Add in her family and friends and you'll be sorry when the book ends. I've recommended these books to all my reading buddies and gifted them to several friends who are now Charley Davidson followers.

Our favorite detective is back! This time her case is not easy one someone is threatening her if she won't find some particular woman. Will she manage?
In the middle, she will play matchmaker for one of my fav characters! And for sure there will be lots of going on, Amber, Quentin, Captain, Reyes, Cookie! It was a huge roller-coaster of events and emotions!
There will be also a new character - demon, and he will turn some things upside down - but you must read to find it out!
Great read, with a cliffhanger that put my head spinning and wondering when I will be able to grab book 7!

I adore his & Charley's relationship & refuse to believe that it can end any other way than happily & them spending eternity together. Can't happen any other way.

Reyes Alexander Farrow is so awesome! I can't believe how much his character has grown on me over the course of the story. I love how no matter how frustrated/angry he gets with Charley, he still adores her and how she makes him laugh. I also loved the new dynamic between Cookie and Ubie. Priceless stuff. This is a series that only gets better with each installment. (Though I can see things tipping the other way if our cliffhanger is not handled right. I guess I'll figure that out, since I'm starting book 7 immediately!)

So good! This is the sixth book in the Charley Davidson series. I find the main character very funny and the stories are interesting.

I received a free copy of SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE (Charley Davidson Book 6) by Darynda Jones through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. In this installment, Charley, private investigator and grim reaper, finally says yes to the sticky note question posed some time back by boyfriend, and son of Lucifer, Reyes Farrow. The mob kidnaps a friend of Charley’s to coerce her into locating a witness to a murder. Meanwhile, there’s a naked senior citizen following Charley wherever she goes. Will Ubie ever ask Cookie out on a date? Also, teen drama pops up when Cookie’s daughter and a deaf boy who is currently the ward of nuns but was previously possessed by a demon form an attachment.

Oh well, just another day in the life of the shining beacon of death. I highly recommend this series to mature readers who don’t mind occasional bad language and who either enjoy reading or don’t mind skipping sexy-times.

reading through this series in order has been fun. I'm loving Charley and her antics and sarcasm.

The author still does too much recapping for those that have read earlier books...so if you haven't started yet you could possibly jump in here, but you won't get the full affect of some of the actions and decisions.

Welp, that's two books back to back with very cliffhanger-like endings and I suppose if I wasn't already committed to reading these, that alone would keep me coming back to this series. Because that brief reprieve I had with book five was not present here.

Look. Charley has ADD, a ridiculous coffee obsession, is full of inappropriate humour, and all sorts of whacky personality traits. We know this, we've learned to mostly accept (though not necessarily like) this. But it seemed turned wayyyy up to fifteen (it was already at eleven) for this instalment and I was not here for it.

Additionally everything we thought we learned in the previous book is like.. not necessarily accurate? Or a misunderstanding and now we're kinda starting from scratch? I appreciate the 'haha got you' element to plot twists because when you're at book six of thirteen you know there's lots still to come. But maybe I'm only into that when I'm actually, y'know, enjoying things. Hard to say.

SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE was filled with so much extraneous nonsense that I was completely unimpressed by but at the same time this was the most emotional read of the series so far. Those elements had nothing to do with Charley & co, not really, but they were still rather gutwrenching. This author can definitely write. I just wish I liked more of it.

Anyway, I'm not entirely surprised by the book whoopsie at the end of this one because the thought had actually crossed my mind so I guess we'll see where this new twist takes us. Book seven here we go.

Yet another amazing story to add to the series. I just love the characters and the world that has been created. The character development and relationship buildings have been great throughout. This is a 'must read' for sure!!!

BOOK BLURB

Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it's time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn't come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she's used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

My Thoughts

Multiple cases mean multiple chances for our intrepid PI to find herself in hot water, which of course Charley manages to do as usual.

These scenes are par for the course in the series but what is not per usual are the methods devised to extricate our favorite Reaper from her hairy predicaments.

Not only is Charley finding new ways to overcome danger on her own but the scenes in which Reyes once again comes to her rescue deserve special attention as well.

Many answers are given but at the end of the book there are many more questions that need answers ASAP. Hopefully they will be given in book 7.

My favorite parts of this particular book in the series thus far are the numerous scenes with our multiple teen characters. They add an element of freshness to this story as well as some relief for Charley when she is able to share her knowledge with one of them.

There are a lot of threads that are pulled together as this story weaves it's way to a couple of startling revelations for Charley. Revelations that should change the direction of not only Charley's life but that of the series to a great extent as well.

From beginning to end the snarky sayings/slogans that each chapter starts with are right on target for me as they sum up nicely the truth of Charley's life and livelihood.

Loved the sixth book in the series. Charley is growing in understanding of her powers and has a few personal developments as well. Not a fan of cliffhangers, but thankfully I can read the next book immediately!

Charley is really a coping mechanism for all of the death and despair of her job. It is devastating to be around death in all capacities at all times and I finally realize that her annoying tendencies to pun inside and outside of her mind is more understandable now. Or maybe Darynda Jones finally learned to explain it better in this installment. While there is still a lot going on in Charley’s world right now, and there are a lot of wordy moments, it seems Jones is finally finding a balance that works better for her characters in the world she has created for them.

I had read the first five books of the Charley Davidson series and enjoyed them, so I was excited to be able to borrow book 6 from NetGalley. This is one of those series with a very slow developing main arc. Even after six books, I’m still in the dark about where we are going but really want to know what comes next.

The book was exactly what I expected from a book in this series, a lot of funny, with heartwarming family and friend interactions, slapstick humor, heartbreak, suspense, Reyes being incredibly romantic, and Charlie being impulsive, annoying - and caring. There was a part in the book that scared the pants off me - I was holding my breath, and other parts that brought tears to my eyes.

What I enjoyed the most wasn’t the main plot of the book, but the side plots. Charlie’s matchmaking efforts for her uncle and Cookie were hysterical. Reyes melted my heart with his unique solution to not being separated from Charlie at night. And there was one ghost whose story broke my heart.

As a bonus, each chapter starts with funny quotes from t-shirts (t-shirts I’d like to own). Here’s the one from the first chapter: “A blank if the only thing I draw well.”
