It is the height of the Cold War and McCarthyism, and even the small town of Maple Hill, Vermont has its suspected Communist spies. Hazel Kaplansky's parents run the local cemetery. When Samuel Butler moves to town, Hazel enlists him in solving the mystery of finding who Paul Jones, the new cemetery handyman, is really. Hazel is sure that he must be a spy.
