My first book by this author but now it won't be my last! Funny, relatable, and honest. Loved it and highly recommend!

Anne Tyler has the gift of storytelling that is straightforward and a joy to read. This book is no exception. Once you start, you will not want to put it down. It's a short novel that covers three days in the life of three people. There is a depth that covers the complexities of life, relationships and the way in which we limit ourselves in life. The simple day to day events of three days in June is masterfully told by Anne Tyler's gifted hands. I never regret picking up an Anne Tyler novel and know that I will be touched by every story that she tells. Highly recommend!!

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is a short but packed story about , well, three days in June, surrounding the main character’s daughter’s wedding. As the wedding festivities & events are happening, Gail, the MOB, has some opportunities to reflect on herself, her former marriage, and her life. It was reminiscent to me of Olive Kitteridge, which is a wonderful compliment from me. Olive is my favorite book character & I found Gail to be similar. Anne Tyler can take the most mundane details of ordinary life - like pumping gas, caring for a cat, etc., and make them lyrical and interesting. She gives great insight into her character’s personality, family dynamics, and life issues. You truly feel you are sitting at the table with old friends. The lesson in the book is self reflection and realizing in the “golden years” that you made mistakes but you are willing to deal with them. While it might seem just like a story about a wedding , it actually was much deeper than that.
Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read abs review this little gem of a book!

3 chapter book where it seems to be centered on the bride but really is about the mom. 3.5 stars
Story: 3 Characters: 4 Engagement level: 3
"Haven't these past three days felt like going backward in time together?"
Highlights:
- Focused on older mom
- Real person with flaws and cranky thoughts
- Some life truisms lines that hit home (some noted below)
- Flashes back to her younger life at times
- Interesting relationship with her ex husband
- Usually like shorter chapters but appreciated this clean 3 chapter format: before, day of, and after the wedding
Lowlights:
- Would've liked a bit more about what happened with the daughter
- Slow moving in parts
Notable quotes:
"Some overweight women are so lush and creamy skinned and sublimely confident that you have to wonder why thinness is considered an asset."
"Someday I'd like to be given credit for all the times I have not said something that I could have said."
"It's hard to resist someone who thinks you hung the moon."
"It seemed that she lived on some other level than ours, someplace louder and more brightly lit."
"Anger feels so much better than sadness. Cleaner, somehow, and more definite,"
"I wondered why it was that I had so many irritating people in my life."
"One of life's frustrations is that sometimes, it's best to say nothing."
"Sometimes when I find out what's an other people's minds I honestly wonder if we all live on totally separate planets."

This is about Gail Baines and all the things going on in her life and her bad day. Her daughter is getting married the next day. Gail has to deal with her ex husband. So much is going on with this book and it can be read in one sitting.
My first time to read an Anne Tyler book and not my last. I enjoyed the quick read and all the excitement.
Engaging, Refreshing, and Emotional.
3.5 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy! This book will be released 2/11/25.

Destined to be a book club favorite!
I loved Anne Tyler's new book Three Days in June which explores the complicated relationships among three generations of family in Baltimore. Despite it's delightfully compact size, Tyler's characters are richly developed as the mother of the bride recounts her daughter's wedding weekend.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Like the title states, this is a book in three parts; the day before the daughter's wedding, the day of the wedding and the day after. It's charming in the details of the mundaneness of life. The things we stress about, the relationships between parents and spouses and ex boyfriends. I enjoyed this book, but I don't think it will stick with me. I loved the part about the cat.

What a lovely little (176 pages!) story!! It all takes place in three days, but that’s all you need to feel emotional about the characters - I wanted to shake one of them and hug another one - such beautiful character development. The reader is left with a couple of choices at the end, both leaving you with with good “feels” and a smile on your face!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC from NetGalley. Thank you SO much!!

Anne Tyler is always a favorite author of mine, and this book did not disappoint. Her portrayal of the lives and thoughts of her main characters are spot on with contemporary life, and the struggles of living a life that doesn't always go the way one expects or wants. The challenges of being a mother, especially the mother of a grown daughter who is getting married, hits a chord with anyone who has experienced the dilemma of how much to intervene in their lives. This book is a great escape into contemporary fiction, depicting age-old issues.

What a sweet book this is. The story of a family and what happened to them as their daughter marries. It is a love story. Good read.

This was a quick, beautiful read. It's been a long time since I read a novel by Anne Tyler, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story of the three days surrounding Gail's daughter's wedding. Her characters are flawed and imperfect (and so relatable) quietly living their lives and making choices that shape their long-term happiness.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my favorite novel of the year.
It was everything I want a book to be:
Emotionally satisfying;
Relatable characters;
Well written and well paced.
Bravo! Anne Tyler.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.
I had been reading blurbs about this book so when it came up on NetGalley, I had to read it!
Wow! It is a great read. It is not my typical read, but I absolutely loved it and can safely recommend.
Highly recommend.

If you loved Olive Kitridge then you will love the narrator of this book. That’s one of those stories that I couldn’t stop reading. Read it in one day. And Tyler never fails to tell a great story.

Gail is at a major crossroad of the her life. She has just been replaced at work with a younger administrator, she is divorced and has no prospects, and her only daughter is getting married the next day. The morning of the wedding who shows up but her ex husband with a rescued cat. This sends Gail down the road of memories and good and bad decisions. A fun quick read that exams choices and regrets and also teaches it’s never to late to right wrongs and be happy again.

Anne Tyler knows the human heart and its foibles. Her books are understated masterpieces that show us the complexity of relationships, the ways in which we limit ourselves, and the pain and goodness of being alive. The plots are simple and the writing seems so straightforward yet it's expertly wrought. She is a joy to read.
While it's true that Tyler can do no wrong in my eyes, I can objectively say (ahem) that Three Days in June is perfection.

A very short novel by Anne Tyler. The story revolves around Gail Baines and her ex husband, Max during the day leading up to and including the days after their daughter, Debbie’s wedding. I enjoyed the book, but couldn’t really get too attached to any of the characters. I thought the ending was somewhat predictable.

If I could have any author write my bio, I would choose Anne Tyler, and here’s why: with every novel she writes, she displays a deep, abiding love for her flawed and imperfect characters. Through all of them, she chronicles the hopes, dreams, foibles, and secrets of her stumbling middle-class characters. Three Days in June is no exception; once again, Anne Tyler has mastered the art of the everyday.
When we first meet Gail Baines, we are led to believe she is a socially awkward, not particularly likable character. She is 61 years old, about to lose her job because she’s just not a “people person,” and her daughter, Debbie, is about to get married. Amid this, her ex-husband, Max, shows up at her doorstep with a cat (to which her soon-to-be son-in-law is allergic) and needs a place to stay.
When a secret emerges that makes Debbie question whether she can go through with her imminent marriage, it opens an opportunity for Gail to question herself. Is absolute certitude a gift or a curse? Is it a good thing or a bad thing to try out various random ideas and give up if they don’t work out? Shouldn’t life be about taking chances – just a little?
In so many ways, Gail Baines is everyone. She is all of us, yearning for closeness but unable to get out of her own way as she strives to get things right with her daughter and ex-husband. She can barely figure out how to navigate a relationship with the cat! Funny and wise, poignant and empathetic, Three Days in June is another gem from a writer who feels like an old friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Knopf and NetGalley for enabling me to be an early reader in exchange for an honest review. Anne Tyler fans, you will not be disappointed!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this ebook.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, short read by Anne Tyler. This was my first Anne Tyler novel and I plan to explore more of her novels in the future. Ms. Tyler does a wonderful job of making her characters believable and relatable. I was instantly engaged with the quirky main character the moment that I started the book. This story takes place during a 3 day period and revolves around the wedding of the main character's daughter. If you enjoy stories that are lighthearted, but deal with the everyday issues of ordinary people, I think that you will enjoy this novel.

This book was not my favorite. It seemed slow with not a lot to keep me engaged. I did enjoy the ending.
