This book was a joy to read in tumultuous times and reminds me why I love Anne Tyler as a writer. Her characters have a distinctive voice and the redemptive love story was a comfort. Recommended to all as soul soothing and joyful. Thank you Anne Tyler!
I liked the characters in this book, but the story was very anticlimactic. It was just a short story about an ordinary woman whose daughter is getting married. I thought maybe there would be drama with the wedding, but even that was a little boring.
Every time I thought something interesting was going to happen it fizzled out and was nothing. The ending was exactly what I thought was going to happen. It wraps the story up but overall is just dull.
Anne Tyler is a favorite author but this one missed with me, perhaps because the main character was so unlikable to me. The writing is good, the setting is good but it just wasn't for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Knopf for my advanced review copy.
This was classic Tyler, a whole lot of story packed into the three days of a wedding. The lead character Gail Baines, is bringing her flawed self, life , and baggage, to her only daughter's wedding. The other characters, including her ex-husband Max have arrived with their own baggage. This is a short sweet look at life in all it's complexity. Much of what we define as Anne Tyler's territory. I just wished for a longer stay in their lives.
A beautiful story with well realized characters navigating emotionally complex issues and difficult relationships filled with love, humor and second chances. Anne Tyler delivers pathos and an engaging tale following the herione, Gail, over three eventful days in her later life, with illuminating flashbacks. Gail's daughter is getting married which brings the exhusband into town, Gail experiences a work crisis, and a foster cat takes up residence in her house suddenly and against her protestations.
Tyler keeps the reader engaged without high drama, murder mysteries or steamy sex scenes; the characters are real in thier flaws and sharp edges, lovable in thier willingness to try for insight and growth, forgiveness and empathy. Very much enjoyed this novel, highly recommend.

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is a pleasant, character-driven novel that explores the intricacies of family relationships and unexpected encounters. Tyler’s writing style shines with its gentle humor and attention to detail, creating vivid scenes and relatable moments.
Once again, Anne Tyler has given us a novel to remember, rich with her signature quirky, yet noble, characters caught up in the random, yet ordinary, chaos of life. Gail is a bit of an oddball, a spectator to her daughter’s pre-wedding activities, while Max is totally out of it, so much so he doesn’t even bring a suit to wear to the wedding. When questions regarding her daughter’s relationship with her fiancée make it unlikely the wedding will take place at all, Gail and Max are thrust into the drama, raising up old hurts and betrayals and new understandings. Written with Tyler’s masterful skill, the novel, short at 208 pages, possesses her usual dry humor, commentary on the ordinariness of life, and tug on the heartstrings. Recommended for those looking for a comfortable read to amuse and entertain them.
Three days in June was a wonderful read. I follows the story of Gail Baines as she is in limbo about her job ,she is left out of the spa day for her daughters wedding and her ex husband shows up on her doorstep with a cat. these three days force her to make some decisions about her life. She has very little social skills and she and her ex husband are very quirky. they are ordinary people who are trying to navigate the weekend of their daughter Debbie's wedding. This story is told with empathy and humor and it is easy to relate to these characters. I loved the bittersweet ending...it made me feel like we all need second chances. I am now an avid fan of Anne Tyler and can't wait to read some more of her books
Thank you net galley for giving me the chance to read this wonderful book for my honest review
I didn't want this book to end! I couldn't help but cheer for Gail and Max to begin again. The main characters were very well-drawn and each endearing in their own way. II've always loved Anne Tyler's writing!
Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor | Knopf for allowing me to read an ARC of Three Days in June by Anne Tyler, in exchange for my honest review.
"Cats are not coldhearted!" This summed up our main character perfectly! This was a fantastic story of introspection, growth, and love. The characters were all so beautifully portrayed, I felt as if I knew them. I was, however, a little confused with the ending.
This was my first book by Anne Tyler, and I look forward to reading more.
I thought Tyler did a great job of capturing the emotions of each character in her writing.
It was a delightful and enjoyable read!
The book's description and cover initially grabbed my attention and made me eager to read it. However, I found the pacing slow, and I struggled to motivate myself to pick it up again. I did eventually finish it and enjoyed the ending, though I do have a few lingering questions...
Special thanks to NetGalley, Anne Taylor and the publisher for advance access to the book in exchange for my honest review.

4.0. A classic Anne Tyler book on the intricacies of daily life reflected in the story of Gail Baines over a three day period in which her only child gets married. In some ways, Gail reminds me of Olive Kitteridge though Gail is less eccentric and more of a loner. A little dry but very good character development, with focus on family dynamic, love, and loss. Thank you to Netgalley for providing me an advance copy in exchange for a candid and honest review.
I get very excited when I see a new Anne Tyler book. I was lucky enough to get an ARC from NetGalley for review. The story follows the Mother of the Bride, Gail, who has had some bad news from work. She also gets an unexpected visit from her ex-husband with a cat in tow.

It’s love anything by Anne Tyler. Her character development is beyond reproach. Her storylines are always solid. I will be recommending to friends, family and book clubbers. Will post on Goodreads also. Thank you
For the opportunity to preview.
This was a short book, with a well told story, by a good author and I would recommend it to all readers.
The story is about Gail, who is a good person, but rather inept at social situations. She is doesn’t always know when to temper her words and at other times afraid to speak up. This is a quick read and I’m glad I read it!
Ms. Tyler always comes through with books and characters in difficult situations that are satisfying reads. This is another one!
Anne Tyler has once again captured the essence of family relationships in this story which takes place over 3 days - the day before, the day of, and the day after the wedding of Gail and Max’s daughter. Gail, the narrator, expects to be promoted, when she finds out that just the opposite might happen because her personal relationship skills are thought to be lacking (perhaps she expects too much of people). While she is trying to get her head around this latest crisis, she is also trying to get ready for her daughter’s wedding the next day and trying not to feel hurt when her daughter doesn’t invite her to girls’ day at the spa although she does invite her future mother-in-law. To really make matters worse, Max, her ex husband, shows up on her doorstep with his cat expecting to spend the night because he has nowhere else to stay. As only Tyler can, she manages to make order out of chaos, to get to the bottom of of what is really bothering Gail, and to remind us all that no matter how messy things are, at bottom there is nothing like family.
A new Anne Tyler book is a welcome respite at the start of fall. Tyler can always be relied on to present characters that are flawed, relatable, written in a way that makes them seem real, and feel like instant friends.
This was a great, quick read. Glad Anne Tyler hasn't lost her magic!
Anne Tyler makes writing about ‘ordinary’ situations and days and enchanting tale. She has a wonderful way of writing about every day people and their thoughts and feelings that makes you feel like you know then. This book, especially feels like a familiar friend.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All options are my own.
I am a big fan of Anne Tyler and this book did not disappoint. Gail, an award 60ish woman grapples with her career, divorce and the wedding of her only daughter over the course of 3 days. As with Tyler’s other novels, the very humanly normal protagonist and ancillary characters living their ordinary lives are treated with humor and insight. I found this short novel very sweet and satisfying and will be recommending it to all my book loving friends. Thank you for the ARC!
