My first Anne Tyler book but not my last. Short and sweet. But so well written. Awkward and stubborn Gail’s daughter is getting married and her ex husband is coming to stay with her. And not only that but he’s bringing a cat. So real and so raw. Loved!

Anne Tyler always gives us a peek into the lives of ordinary people who often encounter unordinary circumstances.

Gail Baines' daughter Debbie is getting married, but when Debbie tells Gail and Max (Debbie's dad and Gail's ex-husband) something troubling about her fiancé, this stirs up a lot of history between Gail and Max. With a storyline of only 3 days, Gail and Max navigate through a lot of their past to come to an interesting conclusion.

While this is a thoughtful and interesting read, unfortunately, I would not say that this is one of my favorite Anne Tyler books.

Gail is a 60 something year old divorced mom of an adult daughter who's getting married. This story takes us through Gail’s perspective of the day before, day of, and day after her daughter’s wedding. But it turns into way more than just wedding events. We get a glimpse of Gails failed marriage with Max. And some self realization on how things could have been different.

I loved this story. Gail was relatable to me (being an introvert. ) and how hard it is for us to truly express how we are feeling, always feeling guilty about decisions we make, always trying to be perfect. This story turned out to be so much more than I expected going into it. The author did a wonderful job of making me feel I was right in Gails brain and making her so relatable. What a pleasurable read!

Anne Tyler has a remarkable ability to capture the quiet, everyday moments of life and reveal the poetry within them. The three days in this particular June are the day before, of and after the wedding of Debbie, Gail Banes' daughter.

Gail's well maintained life begins to unravel when she’s abruptly leaves her job after being told her current position is no longer needed and and the that she is "too socially awkward" for the promotion to which she applied. Upon returning to her small home in Baltimore, she finds her ex-husband Max with a foster cat in tow, needing a place to stay after their daughter refused him due to her fiancé's allergies. She finds herself recalling their times together, the comfort in knowing each other's likes and dislikes and the pain in hurt that familiarity can bring.

Soon after, her daughter Debbie confides a startling secret about her fiancé, stirring memories of Gail’s own failed marriage and resurfacing guilt, regret, and doubt. As the rehearsal dinner looms, Gail is left questioning both her daughter’s choices and her own.

Tyler masterfully guides us through Gail’s emotional journey as she reflects on her past, present, and future. With a deft touch and an economy of words, she crafts a story that is both profound and beautifully restrained. Truly, Tyler stands among the finest writers of our time.

A story set over three days, Three Days in June was a quick, compulsive read.

Gail is getting ready for her daughter's wedding. Her ex husband has shown up on her doorstep unexpectedly needing to stay with her. Her daughter has dropped a bomb on her parents and Gail has in return dropped a bomb on her daughter.

Gail is "not a people person". Truer words have never been written. I didn't particularly like Gail, but I was totally intrigued by the storyline to continue reading.

I enjoyed Three Days in June. It’s predominantly Gail’s story, though it centers around the wedding of her daughter Debbie. It begins the day before the wedding when Gail is having a bad day and ex-husband Max (as father of the bride) enters the story. Debbie finds out something this day that makes her question if she wants to get married or not. And Gail and Max have their own opinions and history.
There are so many things about Anne Tyler’s books that I love. The first are the characters who are so real that you have either encountered them or you recognize yourself in them.. Many of her characters are not necessarily lovable. But as we get to know them, we come to understand them better, and are rooting for them. It’s a simple story, but with insight, humor and beautiful writing.
I enjoyed reading this book and spending time with these characters. I always finish an Anne Tyler book reluctantly and hope it won’t too long until the next one.

The description of this book starts when Gail Baines is having a bad day. After I began reading it, I had a bad day, more than one. I’ve been a fan of Anne Tyler and her quirky family sagas, but this one bored me. I find the plot slim, the characters poorly developed, and not one is likable. The story goes nowhere and is a downer. I recommend her editor reread it and if possible, make it a story Anne Tyler fans will love,

I enjoyed this book about Gail, told in the 3 days surrounding her daughter’s wedding. I thought this book was short, but sweet. I loved the quirky characters! This was a delightful read.

This is surprisingly short. Based on reviews, I had high expectations and this was fine but not exceptional. The story had potential to be much more fulfilling but it fell very flat for me. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy to review!

Anne Tyler is the best. She is a joy to read and the slice-of-life picture of these three days was absolutely perfection. I loved the cat. I loved the wedding. I loved every word!

This book was a joy to read in tumultuous times and reminds me why I love Anne Tyler as a writer. Her characters have a distinctive voice and the redemptive love story was a comfort. Recommended to all as soul soothing and joyful. Thank you Anne Tyler!

I liked the characters in this book, but the story was very anticlimactic. It was just a short story about an ordinary woman whose daughter is getting married. I thought maybe there would be drama with the wedding, but even that was a little boring.

Every time I thought something interesting was going to happen it fizzled out and was nothing. The ending was exactly what I thought was going to happen. It wraps the story up but overall is just dull.

Anne Tyler is a favorite author but this one missed with me, perhaps because the main character was so unlikable to me. The writing is good, the setting is good but it just wasn't for me.

This was classic Tyler, a whole lot of story packed into the three days of a wedding. The lead character Gail Baines, is bringing her flawed self, life , and baggage, to her only daughter's wedding. The other characters, including her ex-husband Max have arrived with their own baggage. This is a short sweet look at life in all it's complexity. Much of what we define as Anne Tyler's territory. I just wished for a longer stay in their lives.

A beautiful story with well realized characters navigating emotionally complex issues and difficult relationships filled with love, humor and second chances. Anne Tyler delivers pathos and an engaging tale following the herione, Gail, over three eventful days in her later life, with illuminating flashbacks. Gail's daughter is getting married which brings the exhusband into town, Gail experiences a work crisis, and a foster cat takes up residence in her house suddenly and against her protestations.

Tyler keeps the reader engaged without high drama, murder mysteries or steamy sex scenes; the characters are real in thier flaws and sharp edges, lovable in thier willingness to try for insight and growth, forgiveness and empathy. Very much enjoyed this novel, highly recommend.

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is a pleasant, character-driven novel that explores the intricacies of family relationships and unexpected encounters. Tyler’s writing style shines with its gentle humor and attention to detail, creating vivid scenes and relatable moments.

Once again, Anne Tyler has given us a novel to remember, rich with her signature quirky, yet noble, characters caught up in the random, yet ordinary, chaos of life. Gail is a bit of an oddball, a spectator to her daughter’s pre-wedding activities, while Max is totally out of it, so much so he doesn’t even bring a suit to wear to the wedding. When questions regarding her daughter’s relationship with her fiancée make it unlikely the wedding will take place at all, Gail and Max are thrust into the drama, raising up old hurts and betrayals and new understandings. Written with Tyler’s masterful skill, the novel, short at 208 pages, possesses her usual dry humor, commentary on the ordinariness of life, and tug on the heartstrings. Recommended for those looking for a comfortable read to amuse and entertain them.

Three days in June was a wonderful read. I follows the story of Gail Baines as she is in limbo about her job ,she is left out of the spa day for her daughters wedding and her ex husband shows up on her doorstep with a cat. these three days force her to make some decisions about her life. She has very little social skills and she and her ex husband are very quirky. they are ordinary people who are trying to navigate the weekend of their daughter Debbie's wedding. This story is told with empathy and humor and it is easy to relate to these characters. I loved the bittersweet ending...it made me feel like we all need second chances. I am now an avid fan of Anne Tyler and can't wait to read some more of her books

I didn't want this book to end! I couldn't help but cheer for Gail and Max to begin again. The main characters were very well-drawn and each endearing in their own way. II've always loved Anne Tyler's writing!

"Cats are not coldhearted!" This summed up our main character perfectly! This was a fantastic story of introspection, growth, and love. The characters were all so beautifully portrayed, I felt as if I knew them. I was, however, a little confused with the ending.

This was my first book by Anne Tyler, and I look forward to reading more.
