I think I am still recovering a little from this book. So well written, so many emotions. Fitz and Jamie..... If you question fate - read this book. Jamie - oh my goodness this FMC - went through the ringer and back and with such a wonderful spirit that everyone could see. Fitz - I loved watching Jamie bring him to his knees - more than once. Such a heartfelt and tragic story with a beautiful HEA. My person....I am so glad this book has this because I say this to my husband all the time. Beautiful book.

Jewel does banter like no other! I was hooked into these characters right from the start. Calvin and Jamie's playful snark is top tier for building their relationship. But it does so much more in that it scrapes away what on the surface seems like a grumpy Calvin, but he's in fact darkly playful and finds the perfect sparring partner in his new roommate.

I always know I'll get thorough character building with Jewel's writing but also whip smart banter and an incredible amount of heart.

Calvin carries a certain amount of enigma but also strength and vulnerability. I was smitten with him immediately. Jamie is capable, snarky, energetic and bold but has a softness to her. I had such genuine connection to these two. Cal's inner dialog had me giggling something fierce at times...but it's also so telling about his personality because he keeps some things so close to his chest.

Gut punches of emotion come hurling out of this beautiful story. There are moments with Calvin that break me as this vault of a man is truly revealed. Protect him at all costs🥹♥️ I loved this couple's chemistry, the stellar way in which their relationship grows from antagonistically teasing, to flirting to Lovers to being each other's best person in life through even the tough truths. A high flying 5 star recommendation!

Ok I absolutely inhaled this book. Jewels writing is just so beautiful and captivating. She is one of my fave authors I just love everything she writes. This was no different. The banter between Fitz and Jaime was top tier. Their friendship was everything. I loved the friendship groups too. This book kept me invested throughout as we know they've both had a tragic past and I needed to know why. They were just perfect for each other but Fitz is so broken, but she came into his life at the right time and somehow they both just worked.

I'm so excited for more from this series. Defo one to bump up the TBR.

It's always the grumpy ones that fall the hardest

Every time I dive into a book by this author, I know it's going to be a journey. When Jaymes Andrews gets her next assignment as a traveling nurse, she accepts a room with 3 roommates: Will, Maren, and Calvin Fitzgerald. I will say this is my first ever romance where the MMC is a smoke jumper. It was enlightening and included in the story organically.

Neither Jamie nor Calvin anticipated their connection, but watching Calvin resist was downright comical. Bit by bit, she opens up Calvin and shows him there is more to life than jumping out of planes. AND let's say the spice has steam coming off the pages. But with all good angsty stories, Jamie knew what she deserved while Calvin wasn't ready to let go of the future he THOUGHT he deserved, and she slips right through his fingers.

When stories feature "older" main characters, they often have a lot of baggage they carry throughout the book. From experience, it's so hard to let it go and trust what is right in front of you. But I loved that Calvin finally realized and vocalized that any future without Jaymes wasn't one he wanted.

I think one of the coolest things for me was that Jaymes' next assignment was a mental hospital here in my hometown.

This grumpy/sunshine, firefighter romance took me for an emotional ride. An EMOTIONAL ride that captivated me to the very end. Be ready for hot banter, steamy tension and spice!

----

Firefighter, Grumpy/sunshine, age gap, forbidden romance, roommates, She's a nurse, emotional

EMOTIONAL. EMOTIONAL. EMOTIONAL

He's a (forest) firefighter and she's a behavioral health nurse. They meet as roommates when she moves to town to take a temporary nursing position. She sweet, youthful and smart. He grumpy and has alot of trauma which has closed him off from the world. But there is something about his new roommate that just sets him on fire. Too bad their roommate contract strictly outlines no romantic relations. But that's just a silly contract...right!?

The books starts of with lots of tension and forbidden romance with elite HOT banter and chemistry. As the story progress the trauma and emotions come forward. And man o' man. It's deep.

There are twists that I didn't see coming that complicated the story even more.. I couldn't put this book down!

Incredible. Moving. Funny. Poignant. Heartbreaking. Heart-warming. I could go on, but you get the gist. I've never read any book of Jewels that I didn't absolutely fall in love with, and this is no exception.

Jaime is a free-spirited travel nurse from Florida. Being homeschooled, she longs to travel and experience life in other places. Her fist contract lands her in Missoula, in a house full of fire fighters. Will and Maren immediately warm to her, but mysterious Calvin - or Fitz as he's known - is as closed off as they come.

This book is written so incredibly well, you feel like you know these characters. Jamie and Fitz, by all accounts, shouldn't work, but they do. And you want them to. Every emotion, every laugh, and even the twist that Jewel throws in, you feel like you are there. It's the kind of story that hooks you from page one and sticks to your soul. And that makes it my favorite kind of read.

Have you ever experienced finding love in the strangest of places? From Air by Jewel E. Ann is a good blend of romance, heartache, friendship, and traumatic pasts. The story line pulls you in right away with lovable, realistic characters.

What I Liked About From Air:
I sat and read From Air while in Montana, about 2 hours from Missoula, where From Air takes place. I have vacationed around Missoula many times. It is the perfect setting to have firefighters and a traveling nurse all living together.

The characters are well-written, and at times, you will feel their love, friendship, and grief throughout the story. My favorite part was their banter. It worked without being over the top. I always enjoy witty bantering between friends. It’s definitely how I relate to my own friends. You cheer on each of the characters. I find this hard to do while reading most books. There is usually a character that I highly dislike or don’t care about, but that wasn’t the case in this book.

The pacing was good; it is definitely a slow-burn story, but enough happens throughout the story to keep you interested.

This is the first book in the Wildfire series, and I’m excited to read the next one.

Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake, and Jewel E. Ann for sharing this book with me. This is my honest opinion.

From Air has a compelling premise—a firefighter and a traveling nurse brought together by grief and unexpected connection. The setup is strong, and Jewel E. Ann’s writing is polished and emotionally resonant. Fitz is a standout character with a gruff charm that softens over time, and his dynamic with Jamie offers plenty of banter and chemistry.

However, the relationship between the two felt overly reliant on that banter, lacking the deeper emotional foundation I was hoping for. The mid-book twist, while dramatic, felt a bit far-fetched and pulled me out of the story rather than drawing me in further. Jamie’s character arc had potential, but I struggled to fully connect with her journey. Overall, I was also a bit bored throughout the book, and just wasn't too invested.

There are thoughtful explorations of grief and healing throughout, and Ann’s skill as a writer is undeniable. While From Air didn’t quite land for me, I’m still interested in reading more of her work.

Jewel E. Ann is one of my favorite authors–and by far my favorite romance writer. Her ability to create characters with undeniable chemistry and especially her skill in writing emotionally devastating plotlines makes her books completely absorbing page-turners.

The blurb for From Air fails to capture just how incredible it is–but it really is best experienced by going in blind. I never thought having my heart ripped out of my chest would feel so incredible, but here we are.

The audiobook is included for free with Kindle Unlimited subscriptions, and the narrators do a phenomenal job. Ada Sinclair’s narration of Jamie’s point of view is so masterfully portrayed, every emotion so raw that it feels like watching a heartwrenching film as more about everyone’s secrets is revealed.

The characters are so well-developed, each with a haunting secret and connections that could tear them limb from limb. Trust me on this very vague review and go with your heart–read this book and experience this masterpiece for yourself, then come back and tell me your thoughts so we can recover from the book hangover together while awaiting the next release in the Wildfire series!

Thank you to Montlake, Valentine PR, and Jewel E. Ann for the ebook ARC.

From Air is a super emotional romance.
Jaymes is a nurse taking temporary jobs while she travels around the US. She moves in with a group of first responders in Missoula. The only real rule they have is ‘No sleeping with a roommate’.

“I can’t stop looking at you. And I can’t stop navigating closer to you, even though I know you’re unreachable.”

Cal is the quiet grumpy roommate that Jaymes can’t seem to stay away from. She knows he is not only physically off limits he is emotionally closed off completely.

“Jaymes isn’t the girl of my dreams. I never allowed myself that luxury.
She’s the girl who has taught me how to dream.”

Oh boy does this story hit you with the twists! Be prepared to stay up late with this one! It was definitely unputdownable wanting to know what was going to happen by the end.
-4 Stars-

Wow — From Air completely took me by surprise in the best way possible. I didn’t expect to be this hooked, but from the very first page I was all in. The story flows so naturally and the writing just pulls you right in — I honestly didn’t want to put it down.

The characters? Loved them. They felt real, relatable, and full of depth. There was just the right balance of emotional moments, humor, and chemistry — the kind of mix that makes you feel everything while also smiling like an idiot at your Kindle.

What I really appreciated was how the story built up — not rushed, not too slow — just the perfect pace to make you care deeply about everything that was happening. And the emotional punches? Yeah, they landed.

Honestly, From Air is one of those books that stays with you after you finish. It’s sweet, heartfelt, and so beautifully written. If you're looking for a story that will make you feel a lot, this one’s it. Loved every second of it!

From Air is a breathtaking blend of humor, heartache, healing, and a romance that anyone would long for. Jaymes “Jamie” Andrews, a traveling nurse, moves to Montana and into a house with three firefighters, including the intriguing Calvin “Fitz” Fitzgerald, who has a traumatic past. Despite a strict “no relationships” rule, their connection grows from playful banter to a meaningful, emotional bond.

Jewel E. Ann masterfully balances humor and depth. Jamie and Fitz’s chemistry is electric, their banter is actually laugh-out-loud funny, and their emotional journey is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The unique professions—smokejumping, tanker piloting, and psychiatric nursing—add depth, while the found-family dynamic and adventurous settings really elevate the story.

Fans of forbidden romance, found family, and emotionally charged storytelling will love this book. It’s an unforgettable story of love, loss, and second chances.

Highly recommend this emotional and addictive romance. And it is one of my faves of the year!

4/5⭐
Jewel's books always make me a bit nervous to read. They are all fantastic but my heart never knows what type of roller coaster she is going to put us through. Jamie and Fitz have a great story and the roller coaster was well worth it.

This was my first book by Jewel E. Ann and I can safely say it will not be my last. Even though several months have passed between when I actually read it and sitting down now to finally write this review the characters and their story still live rent free in my head. If I had to pick an introduction to her writing I honestly can't imagine a better pair than Jamie and Calvin.

When I say their chemistry leapt off the page for me, I mean it downright slapped me in the face. I'd call this one more... one sided dislike to lovers? But even before anything heated up between them the way they just meshed together in each scene was a thing of beauty. Once I started reading I couldn't stop because I just knew they were going to be explosive.

... and they were, but what I didn't see coming was how much their story would tear apart my heart. I love a lot of books, and fall head over heels for a lot of fictional couples, but it's a rare few that genuinely hook me so thoroughly that each step of their journey, good or bad, evokes genuine emotions and reactions out of me. I can't even count the number of times I gasped or got teary eyed or found myself smirking without realizing because their banter was just that good, or their intimacy that hot.

This was one of those books that once I started I completely forgot I was even reading. I was completely immersed in their world, and fascinated by the glimpses the story offered at the life of wildland firefights. I think this is the first book I've ever read with a character in that profession and tbh I'm pretty sure it kicked off a new obsession in me (but nobody is over here complaining).

If you're looking for a slow burn, dislike to friends to lovers, found family type book with a gruff and grumpy, hot as sin MMC and sweet yet sassy FMC do yourself a favor and get a copy of this right now.

Wow!! This is an amazing story, filled with so many surprises. Jamie is a travel nurse that has accepted a position in a new place, new town. She rents a room in the home that includes smoke jumper Fitz, fire department engine chief Will, and air tanker pilot Maren. Jamie gets along great with everyone, including grumpy Fitz. However, intimate relationships are forbidden among the roommates and that creates so much slow burn friction. There is great word building and banter, and the best plot twist. The healing and growth has so much depth, this story touched me deeply. The audiobook was read perfectly also.

There’s an excitement for the unexpected whenever I read Jewel’s books, and this one was no different. I fell in love with the storyline and the characters from the first chapter. It’s a beautiful story of love and fate, loss and healing. Jaymes is like a ray of sunshine—funny, loyal, and intelligent—while Fitz is the grumpy firefighter with a tragic past and the biggest heart. The two of them together are unforgettable.

When Jaymes moves to a small town as a temporary traveling nurse, she ends up living with Fitz and two other roommates. As they try to fight off their attraction, their pasts tangle in ways they never predicted. As you fall in love with them, you also fall in love with the side characters. I adored every minute of this book. It’s the perfect read for this time of year, with the Montana winter backdrop.
