What a complex family dynamic! I enjoyed the alternating POVs and how everyone had a reason to be the one behind the dead body. Families stick together!! I loved the remote scottish setting and all the red herrings. This will be big in 2025.

I feel like this was more of a family drama, rather than a thriller/mystery. It didn't really keep my attention like I wanted.

A solid read, with two parallel stories running side by side. I think we can ALL understand Zoe's pain with an overbearing, over-involved mother in law.

The Inheritance is a book about family secrets fighting over their inheritance while on vacation on a remote island in Scotland. I was afraid the book was going to be a repeat of many similar books I've read but the author successfully made this one unique and compelling. "If there's anyone in this family who could get away with murder, it's her" [Aisha, the youngest sister] I
I fell in love with most of the characters, especially Aisha who I pictured as Pelotons Ally Love (even though she's not Hindu) and Zoe, both who are not fans of family gatherings.
"If there's one thing more complicated than being on a family holiday, it's being on a family holiday on a Scottish island with no one to talk to except your in-laws and $300 mil pounds hanging in the balance "
The Agarwal family thinks Aseem is far too easily influenced by his wife, Zoe, the influencer @AccidentallyAdulting
First born Myra has been "keeping many small secrets from the family" and has asked the staff to take the week off while they vacation at Kilbryde. There's too much at stake now. "Domestic help is like furniture in India: essential but invisible. But invisibility doesn't guarantee discretion.
There's lots of great characters. Some I liked to hate. A beautiful setting. Red herrings & lots of surprises.
I was going to rate it a 4 but I really enjoyed the shocking ending so I bumped it up to a 5. Readers should definitely add this to their 2025 TBR list.

A billion dollar company. A family reunion. And a murder mystery?! This has all the dressings of an Agatha Christie and is just as satisfying. It really made me guess and question everything as I read, and I was still surprised.

The Agarwal family is gathered on a private, luxury island off the coast of Scotland. Raj, the patriarch of the family, is about to announce his retirement and plan for his family’s inheritance of money from his multi-million-dollar company. Shalini, the matriarch, is ready to finally have her husband to herself. Myra, the owner of the island, is secretly on the verge of bankruptcy. Aseem, the son, is stuck between what his family wants and what his wife wants. Aisha, the youngest, is always the life of the party, and can’t resist a chance to mix things up a bit. Finally, Zoe, Aseem’s wife, is the outsider with an Instagram-perfect life that is really full of lies. They all have secrets they would do anything to protect.
This book kept my attention, but it wasn’t what I thought it would be. It was mostly a family drama. There were no twists until the end of the book. I did enjoy those twists, but I wish there had been more twists earlier in the book. If you like thrillers that spend a lot of time character-building, this is the book for you. I give it 3/5 stars.

I am unsure how I feel about this book. We are introduced to several different characters, all counting on the patriarch to retire for different reasons. It is evident from the start that his wife wields the most power, but I was left feeling as if what for? The entire book lead to a sequence of events that seemed to have no real purpose , and it was hard to root for any of the characters.
In the end, you are left with a group of flawed individuals who just seem to feed upon each other's weaknesses.

If you are looking for a juicy thrilling family drama this is the book for you! The twists got me and I didn’t want to put this one down! A must add to your tbr!!!
The Agarwal family gathers on their private island in Scotland for a very anticipated family reunion. All of them have secrets they would die to keep hidden. Is this really a reunion to celebrate their supposed unity as a family, or will they be victims of their own greed?

Dark & twisty, this book will want you to keep coming back for more! The story starts off with a murder & it's the readers job trying to ifgure out who did it. The characters are each hiding something and when stuck on a remote island, it gets dangerous fast. Definitely a must read for 2025!
Thank you NetGalley and Pamela Dorman Books for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

Overall this was a good book! I liked the multiple perspectives and the intricate family drama. It was certainly a slow burn, and the ending was a bit of a letdown.

This one was slow to get my interest, but once I started to know the characters better my focus was on finding out who would inherit the family business and what might occur to make that happen. Everyone seems suspect but that still didn't prepare me for the twist at the end.

This was a well-done family drama with a nice mystery thrown in. It is so moody and the vibes are fantastic. I loved the secluded island setting. Locked rooms or secluded places in mysteries and thrillers are some of my favorites and this was no different. I loved how the atmosphere played into the plot in this book. The dual point of view was fantastic. I really enjoyed getting to know the entire family through the different perspectives. As with any family drama, everyone in the play has secrets they’d rather not reveal, but as time goes on the secrets come out. I loved who we knew someone was passed away at the beginning but then we spent the entire book trying to figure out who it could be. There were so many red herrings that steered me down the wrong path, I ate it up. The ending was so twisted I really enjoyed it.
If you’re looking for a fantastically done secluded mystery, then you need to check this one out.

High stakes family drama in a moody setting? Yes please! From the description alone, I knew that I had to read The Inheritance -- and it definitely did not disappoint! I loved Trisha Saklecha's writing style and character development, she kept me hanging on for the entire ride. A must read for domestic thriller lovers everywhere!

I loved how this book took you along through the past of this family and then wove you between the family relationships. You could see how the secrets everyone had were eating away at people. I thought it was so well written. I also think it was so fun to read because I could see a real family hiding the truth like this and saving each other. I do kind of wish Zoe had lived or the baby had lived to carry on the story a bit.

The Inheritance is a twisty dysfunctional family saga and I absolutely loved it. I loved that it was different in the fact that we also had the mystery of who was actually dead along with who did it in the beginning. This book is shocking and twisty, I think it is a great read.

Thank you Pamela Dorman Books for the gifted digital ARC!
I won't get too into the weeds with my review here on NetGalley since I don't want to spoil anything, but I'll post more of an in-depth review about why I had a hard time with this one on Goodreads.
The story was sooo good there were just multiple storylines that I found deeply unsettling and downright triggering. It took this one from fantastic to just okay for me.
I definitely won't hesitate to read this author again in the future!

The story is told Then and Now from the POV of Myra and Zoe.
Myra has a broken heart after a failed relationship and losing her baby.
Zoe lives with her in-laws in New Delhi and is having a hard time dealing with her mother-in-law Shalini's controlling behavior.
From the beginning, we know one of them is dead- Hmmm Which one?
The Agarwals gather on a remote island to talk through the sale of their company that has been run by Raj, the patriarch, and subsequent inheritances that will be bequeathed to their 3 grown children.
This domestic thriller with put you right in the middle of the Agarwal dysfunctional family
Raj and Shalini – Parents
Myra – The eldest child - Owen her husband
Aseem – Middle Child and only son. Zoe – his wife
Aisha – The youngest and a bit of a wild child. - Gabe her boyfriend
Twisted story had me guessing. The ending was a surprise and was satisfying.

Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 21, 2025.

It took longer than I would have liked to get into this book, but once I got there, wow! What a twist!!! Very messed up and had me SEETHING! Books that can make you feel strong emotions are my favorite. It's worth a read. I intend to try her other books.

Thank you to Netgalley and Ms. Sakhlecha's team for allowing me an ARC copy of this book.
If you're into super twisty thrillers, this book is for you. This is the first book in awhile that I didn't figure it out. It keeps you guessing until the end. Although a couple of characters in the book really infuriated me, this book kept me on the edge of my seat and loving every minute of every plot and sub-plot written.
Lesson learned: never marry a mama's boy.

THE INHERITANCE by Trisha Sakhlecha is an atmospheric dysfunctional family novel. I thought the author laid an excellent groundwork in the remote Scottish setting. The rich Indian family is retreating to daughter Myra's private island, ostensibly to figure out how the father's is leaving his inheritance to his three children. Daughter Myra needs a huge influx in cash to ready her posh resort to open.
Son Aseem has most recently helped his father out with the company after his father had health problems, and due to that extra work thinks he should be promised more of the company. His influencer wife Zoe has tried her best to fit in with the family, but she feels like she will never fit in.
And youngest daughter Aisha is the flighty one, and she arrives with a new beau that no one trusts.
Told mostly from Myra’s and Zoe’s perspectives, I thought this brought a nice balance to the story, from both an “insider” family perspective and an “outsider” perspective.
The guts were good here, but I felt the story wasn't that propulsive after the establishing groundwork was developed. There was a long lag before anything happened. However, the last 10%-15% was exactly what I was looking for in terms of gasping. It did not disappoint! So even though the pacing had some troubles in my mind, I thought it was an intriguing story. And I really enjoyed learning more about the Indian culture.
