The book was very good it takes place on a island off the coast of Scotland and about this family goes there to talk about the inheritance and what's going to happen I never expected The Twist that happened it's a little slow in the middle but finish it because it's so good

Many thanks to Penguin Viking and Netgalley. I received this book in exchange for my honest review. My thoughts are entirely my own.
This book was something else. I enjoyed it up until the very end. The only character that I actually seemed to like was Zoe. The book was very interesting until close to the end. I think I would have liked it more if it wasn’t for the death near the end. The mother is very manipulative and does everything in her power to keep her family close to her. She seemed very two faced. I don’t want to spoil it to much but it was pretty good.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
Trisha Sakhlecha’s “The Inheritance” is a masterful blend of family drama and psychological thriller, set against the opulent yet claustrophobic backdrop of a private island. This novel delves into the dark secrets and simmering tensions of the Agarwal family, making for a gripping and unsettling read.
The story revolves around a family reunion meant to decide the future of the Agarwal empire. As the family gathers on a remote island, the luxurious setting quickly becomes a pressure cooker for long-buried secrets and rivalries. Sakhlecha’s vivid descriptions of the island’s isolation and beauty contrast sharply with the underlying menace, creating an atmosphere thick with suspense.
The Agarwal family is a fascinating ensemble of characters, each with their own motives and secrets. Aisha, the youngest, is a wild card whose unpredictable behavior adds an element of chaos. Zoe, the outsider and Aseem’s wife, presents a facade of perfection that hides a web of lies. Each character is meticulously crafted, their interactions and conflicts driving the narrative forward. Sakhlecha excels at portraying the complexities of familial relationships, where love and loyalty are often entangled with jealousy and betrayal.
“The Inheritance” explores themes of power, legacy, and the corrosive effects of secrets. The novel delves into the lengths people will go to protect their status and the devastating impact of unresolved grievances. Sakhlecha’s narrative is a compelling examination of how wealth and ambition can fracture even the closest of bonds.
Sakhlecha’s writing is sharp and evocative, capturing the tension and drama of the Agarwal family’s reunion. The pacing is expertly managed, with twists and turns that keep readers on edge. The dialogue is crisp and realistic, reflecting the characters’ personalities and the high stakes of their interactions.
“The Inheritance” is a standout novel that combines the intrigue of a murder mystery with the emotional depth of a family saga. Trisha Sakhlecha has crafted a story that is both thrilling and thought-provoking, with characters that resonate long after the final page.
A must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and domestic dramas.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Trisha Sakhlecha for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for The Inheritance coming out January 21, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really loved the secluded Scottish island setting. I thought it felt like a Succession story. I enjoyed that it featured an Indian family. They definitely had their issues though. There were a lot of twists and turns to this book. I enjoy a good thriller. Some of the plot points were a little crazy. I would check out other books by this author!

Did not get a chance to finish before the request expired but whatever I read was good. The opening centers on a wealthy family. Gives succession vibes with an Indian family

This is such a good read! It was a good October read! The family own a remote island with some history on it relating to the Irish gang clan that were viciously murdered by a fire. This wealthy family buys the sacred land that this clan originally had protected before being annihilated. The towns people didn't want it bought, but the Daughter of a millionaire bought it anyway. She has big plans to change the land and make it a B&B. Well in the meantime, she hosts the family on the island for her parents' anniversary. The rules are no posts to social media meant for the daughter in law. (social media creator) the family dynamic is stressful and very controlling. The mother bosses and dictates the daughter in laws life after finding out that she is pregnant. Throws it as a "you'll need help without me" which her husband just lets his mother say these things of consistently overstepping and intruding where she doesn't belong. The oldest daughter is struggling with the Island and is in a middle of a divorce suffering from loosing a child during birth, the father pays her husband to come to the island to try and convince his oldest daughter to stay with him. (once again intruding where they don't belong. controlling the situation) the youngest daughter brought her new fiancé that the family never met and they immediately find dirt on him to get rid of him because they always degrade and think down on her decisions in life. super juicy chaos. Not going to lie, I was HOT MAD at a lot of this. We all have family members in marriages that can overstep and manipulate/ abuse for their own selfish reasons. As for me, I was just divorced because of a Mother in law convincing my husband if I wasn't behaving then I couldn't stay. I'd inspire to be a bad wife. this book takes it to the extreme in a creepy but reality that it could definitely happen in a high societal life. At the end, the magical twist of "who murdered who" was shocking. and it was SO sad that the person who got blamed a) was framed for murder and b) was the martyr of the family that consistently took the blame of shame.

I would say to go into this blind and be surprised, because the ending I did NOT see coming and was shocked at the darkness of this family.
In the beginning you know someone is dead, but who, why, and what transpired to lead to the death.
Overall, a brilliant book with trauma, darkness, greed, manipulation, and what lengths people are willing to go to.

This family was just HORRIBLE!!! And I totally enjoyed reading about them! The uber-wealthy Agarwals have gathered on an isolated Scottish island for a reunion. It is also the plan for Raj, the patriarch to announce a succession plan for his company that is worth millions. No one is happy, someone dies and tons of secrets and resentments come to light. I am a huge "Succession" fan, and I love murders soooooo...... this one was hard to put down. My only issue would be that I had no one to root for. But, just like "Succession", it was still a great time!

I will post my review to Amazon, Instagram and other retail and social media sites upon publication day of January 21st.

Suspenseful murder mystery playing out on a luxurious, completely isolated island with a family of suspects telling their backstory of what happened before the body was discovered. Twists and turns as you come to know the characters and their motivation to inherit the lion's share of the family company. Their father's announcement at the anniversary celebration is not what they were counting on. What happens next are dark and dramatic family dynamics due to their lifetime familial roles.

This book has pretty much everything that I like in mystery/thriller novels: family drama, unlikable (and yet realistic) characters, suspense and death. So, in theory, I was 'supposed' to have loved this book. Unfortunately, I have not.
And to be very honest: I don't know why! Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it, or possibly this author's writing style didn't clique with me?
I just thought it was a bit 'too much' at the end: too much drama, too much annoying behaviour, too many pages...!
Maybe I'll wait for this book to be officially published (early next year) and I'll try it again by listening to the audiobook. Hopefully, it wil change my opinion for the better.

The Agarwal family had all gathered on a Scottish island to celebrate the father's retirement and the parent's 40th wedding anniversary. The island housed a large estate that one of the daughters was renovating into a luxury hotel. The housekeeper and handyman were given the week off and there were no other inhabitants. As a storm approached, it stranded them on the island but when the power went out with no cell phone or internet connections, it was only a matter of time that all the secrets that they were hiding would come to light.
A tense thriller that surrounds a family whose closeness is not what they show to the world but who stand together no matter what.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read this e-galley of "The Inheritance".

Okay WOW what a gripping and unpredictable mystery-thriller! Sakhlecha masterfully sets the scene of an eerie-picturesque, isolated island, for the dysfunctional Agarwal family, to gather for their much anticipated family reunion. I love a prologue that gives you a bitesize piece of the ending; The Inheritance had me in its talons from page one.
Sakhlecha leaves perfectly paced breadcrumbs throughout the novel, slowly unveiling the Agarwal family’s secrets and once you piece all of them together, your heart will be racing and your jaw will be on the floor. There are so many layers to peel from that are the Agarwal’s messy family dynamic; you’ll have to remember to breathe when you start to comb back piece after piece.
I’d say this book is both character and plot driven; with money and greed at the root of all evil. The cast of characters are those you’ll love to hate; you won’t know who to trust, with so many lies and secrets interwoven into each backstory.
The Inheritance screams “Succession but make it murder (mystery)”; read if you love being shocked over and over again, only to still leave you with a jaw dropping ending.
4/5!!!!!
mystery, thriller, suspense, wealth, greed, cover-up, remote island, twisty, murder, high-stakes reunion, family drama

All the characters are unlikeable in this story so it makes it hard to root for anyone. In the end, the death is sad as are the family relations. And yet, I needed to know where the story was going

Wow! I just finished this book, and I’m still reeling from it! The chaotic family relationships and the secrets that unfold kept me completely engaged. I really enjoyed the main characters. The subtle hints the author drops throughout the story are fascinating once you connect the dots. It’s an excellent suspense novel, set against the haunting backdrop of a remote island. I was surprised time and again, especially at the end—my jaw was on the floor! I would totally recommend.
Thank You Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Viking | Pamela Dorman Books for allowing me to read this ARC.

A gripping read about a dark and twisted family and the spouses in their orbit. This was hard to out down and the twist was well executed and very surprising! A solid thriller!

Snappy mystery that deals with the nature of family and the darkness that can fester among our closest relationships.
A few small twists that successfully misled me and made the ultimate ending more satisfying.
An entertaining and thought provoking read that was enjoyable despite how sad it could be.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

5 stars! Fantastic! Best book I have read in awhile! Family dynamics, vile characters, twists that will keep you guessing til the last page- I just can’t emphasize enough how hooked I was. I stayed up until the wee hours finishing this one!

✨Book Review✨
The Inheritance - Trisha Sakhlecha
📖 Papa is a billionaire and plans to announce how the company (and inheritance) will be split between his three children during their luxury family reunion. The setting is a private, lavish island off the coast of Scotland. Everything is not as it seems - the past is ever present and while everyone knows most family reunions have tears, this one will end in murder.
📚 Do NOT sleep on this book! This is a great mystery with suspense and family dynamics that are dark and twisty and made to be devoured by a reader. I found myself gasping at the end, shocked by the last 3 words of the book. All of the secrets and the murky past made me want to stay up well past my bedtime.
A special shoutout to @NetGalley and @trishasakhlecha for the Advanced Reader Copy. This will be published January 21, 2025.

The Agarwals are off to their daughter's luxury island to celebrate. Mama and Papa are celebrating forty years together and the sale of their company. Their children, Aseem, Myra, and Aisha have gathered to hear the splitting of the trust. Each has their hand out and in desperate need of access to their money for one reason or another. What could go wrong with a weekend among family. Their traditional Indian family has some hidden dynamics that leave the children questioning if they've made the right move. When spouses are involved, who's side becomes more important? Do you value your spouse or your family? At the end of the day, who do you protect?
This book was a ride. The deep traditional values placed throughout the story open up a lot of scenarios. Trisha has created a locked room setting set amongst a tight knit family where everyone is hiding something. The writing is compelling and you develop love/hate relationships with all of them very quick. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.

Super twisty, shocking read. I loved the plot, story and well written book so very much! I feel like this was unhinged in someways (the lengths taken to keep secrets and get their way) and that made me love it even more.
Worth the read, so so good.. don’t even hesitate to pick it up!
