The Inheritance is the first book I have read from this author, and I'm hooked. Well written with realistic characters, the book draws you in and keeps you wanting more until the very end. Great book!

The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha is a mystery/suspense novel about a family that gathers on a private island off the coast of Scotland. They are all there because the patriarch of the family has something important to announce. The family believes he will be announcing his retirement and division of his assets to each family member. But this reunion turns deadly. And the twists will leave you shocked. This was such a fun read. I couldn't believe the ending. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

The Inheritance is a story that revolves around the dysfunctional Agarwal family – a powerful father, a fragile mother, and three grown children. As they gather to celebrate their parents fortieth anniversary, the siblings are anticipating the sale of the family’s company and the money they will inherit.
This is a family drama filled with secrets and lies and populated by characters who are seriously flawed. By and large, the characters are mostly unlikable, with only a couple that I could find sympathy for.
It’s a story that revolves around wealth, power, and entitlement. The author deals with the backstories well, which provides a framework for the dynamics of this family. The Inheritance is very well-written, with a good plot. There are several unexpected twists and, while the ending fits the story well, it’s also quite distasteful. NetGalley provided an advance reader copy.

I saw that Sophie Hannah had given Trisha Sakhlecha’s latest book - The Inheritance - a thumbs up. I enjoy Hannah’s work and if she liked this one, I was sure I would also. Well, the truth is I loved this book!
The book is set on a private island owned by the Agarwal family. They've gathered to celebrate Raj and Shalini's 40th anniversary. Their three adult children also have another item on the agenda...
Sakhlecha does a wonderful job of creating her characters - I could easily imagine them. Did I like them? My opinion changed with every revelation.
Sakhlecha carefully drops hooks as the book progresses. Events are alluded to, but not fully detailed. Under that veneer of civility are old hurts, secrets, anger, loss and more.
More than one character is given a voice and the reader is privy to their thoughts - and actions. I applaud the plotting and the end. I totally did not see that coming! A great read.

The inheritance was a pleasant surprise! The novel is a blend of succession meets knives out, as if written by Lucy foley. A wealthy family gathers on their private island to celebrate, what they believe to be their fathers retirement, his retirement will lead to vast fortune for his three children-however, they are all shocked when he announced he will be staying on as the CEO. This revelation begins to untangle long held resentments and causes past secrets to begin to come to light. All of the main characters, the parents, the three children aseem, Aisha, maya, and aseems wife, Zoe Al have pasts they are trying to conceal from one another-but how far will they go to keep their pasts buried? A body is found but who and which family member was responsible?
This is a family drama with shades of a murder mystery lurking in the background-but it works! Sakaleckhka does a great job with pacing and mastered the slow reveals and short chapters to draw the reader in. The points of view shift amongst the family and the timeline occasionally jumps around, so pay attention to the chapter headings to orient yourself to when and who of the chapter. Make sure you read until the very last sentence for one final secret that ties it all together!
A fun and strong debut and I’m excited to see the authors follow-up! Well done. Truthfully more 4.5 than only 4 stars! Thanks to the publisher for providing this arc via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a good book for a palette cleanser, which is usually what I read thrillers for. I definitely didn't predict the ending, and enjoyed it throughout the entire book.

This is a mystery who done it thriller that will keep you guessing. This one reminded me of Succession as the siblings are trying to figure out what their split of the fortune their family has massed will go. Everyone had their own agenda and reasons for needing a large sum of money but who is willing to stop at nothing including murder to get their share.
I was immediately sucked in by the characters and wanting to know the who done it. I was in for the long haul and really enjoyed it until the end it sort of fell off. I don’t know what I was expecting and in the end everything was wrapped up with a little surprise twist at the end but I guess I wanted more to it. It felt like the story turned on itself to go down another road that I didn’t know if I wanted to follow.

The story is told from Zoe & Myra’s perspective and involves a family reunion on a remote island. There is a lot of family drama and history that make up this story. It’s intriguing from the start. Just how far will family go to protect each other?!

A beautiful Scottiish loch estate for a family gathering. The descriptions of the house, the views and the island just sounded too good to be true. Three grown siblings - one married, one separated and one bringing a new boyfriend - gather together to celebrate the parents anniversary. Myra, the oldest, is the one who renovated this lovely estate and planned the event for all. Myra had everything planned and then sent all the staff off the island so their family would have total privacy. They are all very interested in their wealthy father's decision about retiring and who he will leave the company to, or how the trust will be settled between them. I was so invested in the setting and characters of this family until about half way in and it began to lag a bit for me. But the ending picked up quickly with a dramatic ending. This was definitely a locked-room (island) mystery, but it wasn't the heart-pounding thriller I was expecting. It was, however, a great family drama with so many secrets divulged at the end - almost a bit unbelievable - but the characters were very well written and I did enjoy the book.
My thanks to Net Galley and Pamela Dorman Books for an advanced copy of this e-book.

The Agarwal family is meeting for a fanily reunion on a private island in Scotland. The father, business tycoon, is going to announce the succession plan for his multimillon-dollar Delhi-based company. The members of the family all have reasons for being anxious about the news. Everyone has secrets. Some would do anything to protect them. One thing for sure is that isn't a typical family reunion.
This thriller is a slow burn. The characters are unlikable which makes it a little harder to care about their problems. The setting is nice and the writing is good, but the pace didn't work for me. A lot of stuff happens near the end and many readers will be shocked. Unfortunately The Inheritance didn't quite work for me.

Ooooooo this is so much fun! I didn’t know what to expect and I’m glad I didn’t. This locked room mystery/thriller is a very pleasant surprise. A family is awaiting word of their inheritance on a secluded Scottish island and none of them are exactly as they appear.
Full of intrigue and family drama, this book keeps you reading until the very end. Excellent!
I look forward to reading more from this author.

The Inheritance is an incredibly thrilling read. I found the book to be a perfect blend of a murder mystery + thriller and a complex family drama, that does such a good job of building layered characters that come alive due to the writing. The prose is as compelling as the story, and the vivid descriptions and keen observations enhanced the fast-paced narrative. This book will keep you guessing and have you at the edge of your seat until the last sentence. I loved it, and highly recommend it!

Thank you to Pamela Dorman Books for this gifted ARC!
I don’t watch much reality television, but I imagine The Inheritance would be a product made straight from the reality tv formula.
My jaw dropped so many times at how disgusting and diabolical this supposed close knit family was. All of them had a secret, all of them had an ulterior motive. These people were downright selfish and self centered. And I ate it up. I get why people enjoy watching other people’s drama and chaos if it’s anything like this book. It was just nuts.
Every time I felt like the family could not go any lower, they surprised me. Even down to the very last sentence.
This book was utterly bingeable. I wanted popcorn with it the entire time.

Woe! What a ride! A family shows up on a remote Scottish island to learn how their father is going to split his inheritance— cure the betrayal and drama.

Never have I cared less about a group of characters. This was full of selfish. egotistical characters, and I just didn't care what happened to them. I got to about 90% then noticed a review that said the last sentence revealed the whole plot so I skipped to that and immediately rolled my eyes.

“My therapist says we all play roles within our families. And once you become accustomed to playing a specific role, you find ways to repeat the same patterns into adulthood.”
The Agarwals are gathering for a family reunion on a remote, private island of the coast of Scotland. The family’s multimillion-dollar company is about to be sold, and the succession plan is set. But secrets abound amongst the three children who will do just about anything to get their hands on the money they are owed. Throw in an unwanted island guest and some new members to the family and you have yourself one wild high-stakes weekend that will end in murder.
I love a good locked-door mystery and this was elevated to locked island status. It was very atmospheric, and its slow build kept me turning pages. I was a little confused by all the characters at first, but once I got them all straightened out in my head, the narrative flowed. The plot was good, but not anything super compelling. It was a solid read that had me seeing it through to the end.
Thank you to Trisha Sakhlecha, Penguin Group Viking and NetGalley for an advance digital copy for an honest review.

In this locked room psychological, everyone’s got a secret and everyone’s a suspect. Parsing out who it is is part of the tension of reading this great debut, and it kept this reader turning the pages to find out who it was.
Let’s just say I didn’t see it, and you’ll want to pick this up to find out what I’m talking about.
This moved a little slower, trying to painstakingly fill the reader in in the history and secrets of this family. You may think you know what happened, and that is why I’ll read the next book by Trisha Sakhlecha.
QOTD: What is something you want to do or a goal you wish to accomplish in 2025? (Not a reading goal- just anything!)
I want to travel more and have more experiences with friends & family.
Thank you to the author, Pamela Dorman Books and @netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

The Argarwal family is one of great influence and power. When it comes time for the patriarch to retire , the children and their spouses rise to collect what they feel they are owed. A true story of greed and what lengths one will go to to ensure the philosophy of “family first .” I enjoyed both the Indian and Scottish heritage embedded into this story.

Really fun. I literally ran through this book following a rich, dysfunctional Indian family celebrating a wedding anniversary on an isolated island in Scotland. Secrets pro max

Wow. The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha really took me by surprise. This part of the blurb “Most family reunions end in tears. This one will end in murder.” was more than enough to get my interest, but it didn’t truly prepare me for how much I would end up enjoying this book. This is a smart, well crafted, totally surprising suspense filled mystery/thriller. Take a wildly dysfunctional family (with many characters you’ll not like…nor are you meant to) put them an in isolated locale, jack up the stress and tension, and then watch them go at each other. I’d never read anything by Ms. Sakhelecha before but if the rest of her books are this good then she’s just earned herself a new diehard fan. There so many twists and tons of misdirection that kept me guessing until the very end. Thanks so much to PENGUIN GROUP Viking | Pamela Dorman Books for allowing me to the chance to read and review an. ARC of this wonderful book.
