So I actually forgot that I had read other books by this truly amazing and important author. This book talks about the book every knows (The Snowy Day) but about what makes the stories timeless. The children in the stories are easy to relate to but their portrayal also show us much more.
The stories seem simple and the illustrations are bright, colorful and simple. But there are layers to what is happening that show the real emotional depth. This book is academic, and the most impressive thing to me was the description of how a therapist used play (without bringing up traumatic issues at all) to help children learn to trust and recover.
This book will be interesting to people who enjoy children's literature and psychology.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. It is an excellent book about Ezra Jack Keats and the fantastic book The Snow Day and children's books too.
