TV stayed off as I read on, savoring tense moments, puzzling mysteries, and admirably loyal friends in this well-constructed maze . . . with a few funhouse mirrors to inspire reflective thought. A wise reader might want to make a chart of characters and their complex involvements, note-taking as the detectives do for clarity. This book is worth a bit of lost sleep, as the raveled edges knit into a most satisfying conclusion.
