Silver always wins - or does it? Maya comes from a grueling childhood and successfully climbs the social ladder and marries into one of the wealthiest families in the world. Old money always comes with old secrets - and Maya is determined to uncover these secrets and protect her new status. A solid read that kept me engaged throughout, but didn't wow me.

I was so allured by this premise, and I think fans of soapy dramas will absolutely love it! For some reason, the writing style from Maya's perspective was a little clunky for me to read, and I personally don't love when chapters or sections frequently end with phrases like "it was as if he knew the secret that could pull us apart..." or "if only they knew what was about to happen." I think that's a personal preference, because plenty of people love this one, but it feels like overly obvious foreshadowing to me. Very "dun dun duuuuuun!" But again, I think a lot of people enjoy that, so if that doesn't bug you, you should definitely pick this one up!

McLoughlin may have tapped into the formula for a perfect script for Nicole Kidman's next Netflix series.

A page turner! Easy to follow and not confusing at all. The plot twists were great !
I wish there was more to Caro’s story….. unless there’s a second book? Then I would definitely read it!

Ohh this book was a sneaky bitch. At first I thought it was going to be something along the lines of the last mrs. parrish or the perfect marriage (both serviceable mystery/thrillers but bonkers in a bad way) but honestly, A Girl Like Us surprised me.

Yes, she's bonkers, but in a GOOD way. McLoughlin executes her story with finesse, and honestly, there were about three twists that left me going WHAT!? which has not happened in a book like this in a long time. It does start out in a meandering sort of way, a way that makes you think you know exactly how everything is going to play out. McLoughlin even falls prey to what I think many mystery/thriller authors are falling prey to these days (something that editors really should have a better eye on) in that she mentions one possibly inciting incident, an incident that casts THE MOST suspicion on our FMC, so. many. times. that it gets repetitive and is telegraphing to the reader that The Thing is bad and will turn out badly for the FMC so don't trust her! But the narrative actually overcomes this ~issue~ and rises above.

I know this book is described as Succession meets Saltburn, but I don't quite get the allusion to the latter, except to make it seem extremely salacious. Which, don't get me wrong, there are secrets upon secrets, but its not the right comparison to me. Comparing it to Succession, however, is a much closer comp.

This book is fun and twisted and crazy in that good way that is truly satisfying.

Twisty but at times far fetched. Rooted for the FMC however at times she made head scratching decisions.

This book was intriguing and intense. When I started reading it, I wanted to be engulfed in the story, and for the most part, I was. When it neared the climax. I was so lost in trying to figure out who was who and what was what that I couldn't focus on the story and what was happening in the book. Who was Arianna, Jess, Harry, etc.? I still feel like there are so many multiple, who is it questions that I got lost reading the story.

I didn't hate it I actually enjoyed where the author intended to go with the story just felt like it was too much happening and a long drawn out confusing last part of the book.

I really enjoyed this book! I loved being able to see Arianna’s POV to see the fall from grace. I wish the pacing at the end was quicker, but I’d definitely recommend this read if you like mystery/thrillers!

Maya’s life takes a turn when she marries into a family of immense wealth and influence, only to discover a world riddled with betrayal and long-buried secrets. When the heiress to the family fortune is murdered, the stakes skyrocket as Maya must navigate a web of greed, power plays, and danger to protect herself and her loved ones. The story dives into how far people will go for control and wealth, all while forcing Maya to confront her own transgressions. With unexpected twists and a gripping plot, A Girl Like Us kept me hooked until the end and is recommended for fans of suspenseful family dramas.

After their destination wedding, Maya and her new husband Colin are whisked away to his family's estate when there is a death in the family.

This was an interesting thriller/drama. I liked the story and was drawn into the mystery of Silver House and the Sterling family. There were more twists than I thought and wanted to find out what really happened, especially with Arianna. There are so many questions that McLoughlin does a good job slowly revealing to you. This was definitely a slow burn thriller. I think it was a little too slow for me at times, but it does pick up towards the end.
I enjoyed the isolated setting of this as well. this gives you a good trapped feeling.

All in all, a twisty family drama and thriller mix.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!

What do you get when you cross Succession’s family drama with the dark allure of Saltburn? A locked-room thriller as irresistible as it is sinister.

Former reality TV star Maya Miller thought she was living the dream when she married Colin Sterling, the golden boy of a powerful and aristocratic media empire. But when murder shakes the foundations of the Sterling dynasty, Maya quickly finds herself in the crosshairs—not just as the next heiress to an unimaginable fortune, but as the prime suspect.

Trapped in the Sterling family’s eerie ancestral estate, Maya must navigate deadly secrets, betrayals, and her own mysterious past to survive a house where everyone has something to hide.

Anna Sophia McLoughlin weaves a masterful tale of glitz, greed, and danger that will have you questioning every character’s motives. With twists sharper than the knives in Silver House, A Girl Like Us kept me guessing until the final page.

If you’re a fan of high-stakes family drama, morally gray heroines, and mysteries that grip you like a vice, this one’s for you.

The disdain Maya's wealthy in-laws felt when a reality TV upstart married into their family is nothing compared to their horror when their unfortunate cousin Arianna dies and leaves Maya as her heir. Suddenly trapped on a grand estate with a bunch of chilly relatives she's never met, Maya falls back on old skills to uncover their secrets and gain the upper hand. As she learns the full truth of Arianna's tragic life and violent death, Maya uncovers one messy, twisted secret after another. Maya's newborn daughter is the only character who isn't ruthless and at least a little unlikable. Thanks, Netgalley.

This was an enjoyable thriller set in an old family home which is just my favorite setting for a thriller. Secrets, heirs, tunnels, family hatred and love. This book is so good!

The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldn’t get into it at all.
I wish the author, publisher and all those promoting the book much success and connections with the right readers.

A Girl Like Us is a wonderfully written thriller/mystery with excellent twists, turns, surprises, and betrayals. I was completely immersed in the labyrinth of Silver House and the secrets of the Sterling family and couldn’t put the book down! I was genuinely surprised throughout the novel and had characters I wanted to see succeed and flourish and characters I wanted to see burn.

I saw Ashley Winstead’s blurb for A GIRL LIKE US… “The perfect mashup of The Inheritance Games and Succession, with a dash of Stone Cold Fox.” and was immediately intrigued!

If you can’t look a away from or are a fan of reality TV stars, terrible rich people, and juicy family drama where they find themselves in a lockdown at the family ancestral estate in the English countryside… let’s be clear “it’s for their own safety” then this one is MUST! It read like a daily soap opera and the twists kept delivering which made me never want to set the book down.

3.5 stars rounded up. No matter where you think this book is going to end up, you'll probably be wrong. There are so many twists, I had whiplash by the end and I definitely would have never guessed everything. The pace is up and down and I found myself fully engrossed at times, while other times I felt sluggish trying to get through. I did figure out a majority of what was going to happen but like I said there's no way you'll figure everything out. This was a messy, drama filled, rich family murder mystery, with a hint of reality tv. If you like rich domestic thriller, you'll want to check this one out!

I really appreciated what the book was trying to do, but it was too repetitive (I can only be told so many times about what happened in Mexico without being told what actually happened)..

I had really high hopes but unfortunately I had to DNF.

Overall, I loved the twists & turns of this book. It was something new & crazy every page.

I feel like we got to know about Adrianna but I would have liked more information on the relationship with Maya & Colin. I wanted to see more interaction with them throughout the twists and turns.

It was definitely a page turner!
