Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter is a delightful rom-com that sparkles with humor, quirky mishaps, and undeniable chemistry. The story follows a case of mistaken identity that spirals into a charmingly chaotic romance between our coffee-spilling heroine and her irresistible boss. Painter's witty dialogue and engaging characters shine, making it easy to root for the couple despite their many obstacles. While the plot occasionally leans on familiar tropes, the fresh execution and heartfelt moments keep it feeling new and fun. It's a feel-good read that's perfect for fans of sweet and sassy workplace romances.

this book deserves 5 stars alone for the cover! it’s so cute and poster-worthy. thankfully, the rest of the story was almost as enjoyable! i think the premise of the story was very cute, and as with every lynn painter book, the banter was top-notch. i have mixed feelings about the hero and his constant (somewhat derogatory?) claim that the heroine was “weird” — the joke lost its charm after the fourth run; it just didn’t make me fall all warm and fuzzy inside. otherwise, it was a quick, fun read.

Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

"Honey, I was hooked the minute you felt me up at Starbucks, checking for a third nipple in those dirty-ass glasses like some kind of nutjob."

3.5 stars

I love how that quote really sums up their relationship. When this book was working for me, it was working pretty well, and a lot of it had to do with the type of relationship they had and how absolutely insane they both could be.

So the beginning was meh for me. His reaction to her thieved PSL, even knowing the history with his ex, was asinine. It was just so over dramatic and a little immature. Which at first, they both seemed written a little immaturely, and it wasn't until they were well into their actual friendship that it started to seem more adult instead of teen.

But I loved everything between them finally becoming friends and then actually starting a relationship. Izzy was really funny and Blake complemented that really well, and who doesn't love a man who has two dependent cats and dotes on them??

This part is spoilerish:

But then the third act came and I'm still sitting here wondering what the hell happened. Blake is Mr I Don't Fuck with Ethics or Lies, and he doubles down on that with Izzy and lies to her, hides information from her, and is generally a shitty partner to her for several different reasons. And then one of my worst pet peeves when dealing with third act break ups/separations: NO. GROVELING. They just...moved on. What!? What he did was way worse than what she did at the beginning. Any maybe it's a sign of a healthy relationship that she was just able to forgive and forget, but I know I personally would have been demanding retribution so maybe that's just me 😅

But I would still recommend for romance readers because a good majority of this book was really fun 💜

Came here for the cover, but the story wasn't as good..

Don't get me wrong, it was an easy read, cute, and I liked Izxy and Blake together, but they were both so immature, especially Izzy, and she was just pure chaos!
I liked it better than Mr Wrong number, but this author definitely likes her ditzy, clutzy, no filter heroines!
Also why so much pizza?! Just got weird after a while 😂🍕

Alright so I have feelings. First of all, banter was great. I always appreciate great banter. Also, Izzy was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed her POV.

I will say that I am an absolute sucker for duel POV, mostly because I also love seeing from the guy's side too. Blake was kind of a jerk at times but it was fun watching him fall first.

Also, how do you write a book that is smutty but not smutty at the same time? Like you knew they were going at it and knew what was happening but it wasn't explicit at all. It was really interesting to see it written this way. I didn't hate it.

Here was my issue and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: I could not stand that Blake constantly kept saying that she was a weirdo and he liked her so much because she was weird. He made that her entire personality trait. Plus, none of what she actually did was all that weird. She sounded more like someone that has ADHD (speaking from experience) and decided to voice her thoughts instead of keeping them inside. I don't find that "weird" because she never did it at inappropriate times, she only did it when she was comfortable around him. So, that irritated me. Also, I can't stand when authors obsess over how big a man's hand it. It makes me uncomfy.

Anyway, I really did enjoy the book. It was fun, funny, and sweet. I would recommend it for sure.

⭐️: 4/5

If someone would’ve made me rate this book after just the first ten or so percent, the rating would be SIGNIFICANTLY lower. First off, I don’t understand the obsession with pumpkin spice lattes. I like pumpkin spice, and I like lattes, but I don’t think pumpkin spice lattes are good, or appealing, or really even taste like pumpkin (or coffee, for that matter) at all. So the fact that THAT was the drink and Izzy just ~had~ to have one on the first day of the season was an auto-ick for me. Then, it really seemed like we were going down a deeply infuriating path of a MMC who projects his baggage onto the FMC, which is like, my LEAST favorite type of MMC because I almost never forgive them and then just can’t ship the couple. Pretty quickly though, this book ended up winning me over.

The sheer ridiculousness of the banter and the thought that was put into the smaller details of the plot really did it for me. From the initial way that Blake was described and the initial conflict, I thought there was absolutely NO way that I would be rooting for them to work out in the end, because sometimes I truly feel like romcom couples just SHOULDN’T be together. Although I was worried it would be, this was not the case here. I really loved the banter and, although it was definitely a little insta-love-y, I thought the progression of their relationship was really cute. Although there was certainly some miscommunication, as there is in most romcoms, it wasn’t an inordinate amount, which I always appreciate. I think this is the first adult romcom that I’ve read by Lynn Painter, and it won’t be my last!

Thank you to @netgalley and @berkleypub for this free eARC for my honest review!!

I loved this book so much! I wanted to read it all in one sitting. There was so many laugh out loud moments, as well as super cute ones. Izzy and Blake were so perfect together. This was a quick read that had me hooked from start to finish.

I was 100% enjoying Accidentally Amy. Like, I was fully invested, five stars, loving every page. Sure it was set in Kansas City and the dude wears a lot of Chiefs shirts, but I can hang. Then the main character's brother was named Jason, his sister-in-law was named Kylie, and their daughter was Ellie.

FOOLED BY TAYVIS FAN-FIC!

Still loved it.

The thing about Lynn Painter is that she is just truly, genuinely so funny. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this. The titular "Amy" is actually Isabella (Izzy) Shay, who is on her way to her first day at a new job when she grabs someone else's pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks so that she won't be late. She runs right into a hot guy, they have a spark, and of course, he ends up being Blake Phillips, her new boss's boss. He's also hardcore against any form of lying, so when he meets Izzy and finds out that she took a coffee with someone else's name on it, he gets way overly upset about it and freezes Izzy out. They still have chemistry, and they have truly great banter even when he's trying to give her the cold shoulder, so she convinces him that they should try to be friends. They both very clearly want more, but they try not to cross that line - especially because of the reporting structure at work. They do muddy that line throughout the entire book, which they try to justify by texting as "Amy" and "Mr. Chest" (who they were to each other before they knew the truth). I often have mixed feelings about office romances where one character is the supervisor of another, but I thought Lynn Painter handled it fairly well here (definitely some ethically iffy situations, but she does pretty consistently call those out on page). Overall I found this really heartwarming and very funny.

I loved this cute ROMCOM. Something about the trope of meeting at a coffee shop gets me every single time. Lynn Painter is a definite read for me when I am looking for a cute, funny, light read. I enjoyed the writing style and plot very much. 4.5 stars from me!

Thank you to #NetGalley and Penguin Random House for this advanced readers copy. This book publishes in January

What to expect in this book:

-Dual POV
-Workplace romance
-Some open door scenes
-Hilarious banter
-Pop cultures references to Top Chef, Taylor Swift, etc

Thoughts

I have read everything by Lynn Painter and no surprise, I loved this! I was so surprised to learn that this was originally self-published and posted as chapters in her newsletter. Hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves even more as a traditionally published book. Izzy Shay is running late on her first day of work at her dream job when she grabs the drink of a person named 'Amy' at Starbucks, but when she turns to leave she accidentally spills her drink all over the chest of a man in the perfect meet cute. As the two part ways after their steamy mishap, the man turns to her and says, "See you tomorrow, Amy." What seems like an innocent accident suddenly becomes more complicated when Izzy learns that the man is now her new VP, Blake Phillips.

This was such an enjoyable, light, and fun read. I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope, the inside jokes between the characters, and of course, the cat references. Blake was the perfect book boyfriend and has it all. Some parts were a little cringey, but I loved it overall. If you are in the mood for a rom-com that witty, charming, and relatively fast-paced, I highly recommend this. Be on the look out for this one in January.

Lynn Painter is an auto buy author for me. I love the cheesiness, I love the pop culture references, I even love the Darkling. This book was another good one for me, quick, easy read. Izzy was pure chaos and I loved that, and I felt like Blake was the exact opposite so they balanced each other nicely. I laughed out loud multiple times, this was a good time.

I’d like to thank NetGalley, Lynn Painter and Berkley Publishing Group for this ARC copy

There has not been ONE Lynn Painter book I haven't enjoyed over the years. Consistently wonderful characters, in combination with real-life situations, always make me feel immediately like I'm in for a good time. These are the reads you grab your Peanut M&Ms and a good glass of wine for and soak into the tub to let your mind drift. Brain candy with a heartwarming, non-gratuitous sexy vibe.

Cats, pizza, Starbucks, and banter! What more could you ask for?! I have now read every book that Lynn painter has published and can officially say I loved them all. The banter between Izzy and Blake had me smiling ear to ear! I just loved them together! I also loved their love/hate relationships were their cats! It felt so relatable! Cat people will understand! There is a lot of talk about pizza in this book too! Be ready to be hungry!

Overall, another adorable book from Lynn Painter! If Painter writes it, I'll 1000% read and recommend it!

Read if you like:

Accidentally Amy was initially self published by Lynn Painter. This edition is revised and expanded. If you read it before this new version is a bit different. If you liked it I’d suggest a re read. If you didn’t, you still won’t. New readers, check it out if you like mistaken identity, workplace setting, banter, and a chaotic storyline.

Than you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this title to read and give my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
I was excited to see this title had been picked up by a major publisher. I love when indie stories go to print and reach the larger audience and get the recognition for the great tales they are.
I'm a big Lynn Painter fan. She is a go to author for me. I love her YA but I think I like her adult books even more. The romance is always done so well.
This one is a light hearted and easy read. The build up of romance between the two main characters is fun and realistic. Painter infuses the story with humor that had me laughing out loud many times during my read. The story line is nothing new and very much reminded me of the movie Working Girl, which I really enjoyed.
I loved both Izzy and Blake. I enjoyed their differences. His grumpy to her sunshine. Their romance was cute as it blossomed, though I did feel there was that slight bit of insta-love I don't always meld with. But it worked well in this particular story. There was a bit of push and pull with their relationship given their circumstances, as well.
Painter got the pacing and banter spot on in this one, though. She really knows when to infuse the story with the lightheartedness is needs to break up those more intense moments.
This one does have a bit of a third act break up type thing to it but it is resolved fairly quickly. The circumstances under which is happens are understandable. I'm not sure I would have done what Blake did had I been in his shoes. I don't think my heart could handle it.
If you're looking for a fun feeling, funny, and entertaining rom-com with friends to lovers, workplace romance, and grumpy sunshine and characters that are quirky and relatable, I highly recommend this one.

I picked up "Accidentally Amy" for its eye-catching cover and my love for the author., but unfortunately, the story didn't quite live up to my expectations. This romcom had its moments, but it didn't quite feel like a traditional romantic comedy.

The Good:

A lighthearted, easy read
Cute romance between Izzy and Blake
Hilarious moments that had me giggling out loud
Relatable protagonist and quirky supporting characters

The Not-So-Good:

Izzy and Blake felt immature and chaotic at times
The story lacked originality, feeling similar to other books in the genre
Lackluster plot that failed to impress
Underdeveloped characters that left me wanting more

Overall:

While "Accidentally Amy" was a fun, quick read, it didn't blow me away. Despite its shortcomings, I still enjoyed it for its lighthearted, easy-reading vibe. If you're in the mood for something fun and uncomplicated, this might be the book for you.

Recommendation:

I'd recommend "Accidentally Amy" to fans of romantic comedies, but with the caveat that it's more of a casual, beach-read type of book.

Listen, i’m not the biggest fan of insta love and workplace romance so I didn’t absolutely adored this book BUT I feel like the pacing the banter and the tension makes it really enjoyable. You won’t waste your time with this one, it’s a fun short romance. It does a great job for what it is.

sigh...i am pretty sure I loved this even more the second time. As a Lynn super fan, I read this a couple of years ago as an indie pubbed book and really enjoyed it. Getting a copy of her reprint felt like the perfect excuse to reread. Perfect is exactly the right word. It's sweet and swoony and so incredibly funny. It's steamy and romantic and light but also makes you feel things with the characters. I love Lynn and I love Amy and I can't wait to force my friends to read this.

Isabella Shay is about to be late for her new job. While waiting at Starbucks for her PSL, the name Amy is called three times. With no Amy forthcoming, Izzy decides to be a petty thief claiming said latte only to spill it all over a handsome man. Thinking this meet-cute turned out well after all, Izzy is shocked to find that Blake Phillips turns out to be her new boss after she arrives at her new workplace.

Blake is not only dismayed that their almost relationship started out by Izzy lying, he is also not about to date an employee. They start a “friends” relationship that is texting only, pretending to be just work buddies. Not surprisingly, this facade gets difficult to maintain especially when they run into each other at work. When an opportunity arises to take things to the next level, all seems okay for a real relationship, until it is not.

This rom-com is a light, mostly predictable read. Izzy and her quirky family along with Blake and his brothers are amusing for the most part. Blake seems like Izzy’s perfect idea of a man once she gets to know him, but of course, obstacles ensue. Her quirky, ditziness coupled with his straitlaced, rule-book persona make for a grumpy sunshine story.
