Frigid is the first new adult book I’ve read by JLA, and all I can say is that I was I had read it earlier! It’s also a book that I don’t see very often when it comes to people talking about JLA in the present day since she’s killing it with her newest fantasy books right now, so it’s a nice change of pace with a contemporary book.

Don’t come after me, but I think I may like the whole friends to lovers concept a little more than the enemies to lovers thing. Idk why, but it’s something about the particular shift in that dynamic that I love.

Sydney and Kyler have been friends for most of their life since elementary school despite him being the super charming ladies man with a different woman most of the time and Sydney being the one who likes to stay out of the center attention. Somehow throughout it all, they’ve stayed inseparable and went to college together.

Sydney rarely dates, much less talks to any guy outside of her immediate friend group, thanks to the overprotective Kyler who scares off any guy that even so much as breaths in her direction. Sydney (and even Kyler) is unaware of why he doesn’t want any guy near her; all she knows is that she still has a crush on her best friends after many years and feels like it isn’t reciprocated.

Sydney, Kyler, and a couple of their friends are planning on going to his mom’s ski cabin in West Virginia a week or so before Christmas, and the two of them leave before the rest of the group, and depending on how you look at the glass, they get snowed in by a blizzard that brings a record amount of snow leaving them trapped in the cabin. During the worse part of the snow storm, they lose power where they only have each other… what could go wrong?

After a couple of rounds of going in circles about their feeling about the other, and it finally seems like we’re moving into something more than a friendship. Sydney and Kyler are both happy with this new relationship that feels so natural between the two and a reversible learning some of the small things about each other. But can this honeymoon phase last once the snow melts? And it that’s not enough, it seems like there is someone lurking in the shadows trying to hurt them while in the cabin.

I think I like this book so much because Sydney and Kyler remind me so much of what Katy and Daemon from The Lux Series also by JLA could’ve been like if they were the main characters in a contemporary book.

Sydney is this sassy girl who has always loved Kyler from a far yet being so close to him. She’s smart and a book lover and faces most things head on except for expressing her feelings to Kyler. Kyler, whew, new book boyfriend alert right there. He’s this cocky guy that all the girls want and the guys want to punch. He has a strong personality that draws you in and kind of makes you frustrated in a good way.

I also like that this book have good character and plot depth considering that it’s the whole getting stuck in a ski cabin and hooking up with the person you’re stuck with. Sure, the friends are only present in a couple of the critical parts of the story, but I think they’re the main characters of the next book, so it’s not that awful.

There was a good balance of romance and relation development throughout the time in the cabin that it didn’t feel so unbelievable unrealistic like a similar book I had recently.
