This is one of my new favorites by Freida! Such a great book, I devoured it! Teagan is a struggling, mom-to-be who is pregnant by a man who took advantage of her. She decides to go travel to visit her brother, while traveling she gets into a car crash and is stranded in a blizzard. A man comes to rescue her from the crash. He takes her to his home, where his wife (who is a nurse) can tend to her until the roads are clear enough to get to the hospital. A hospitable gesture ends up turning into her worse nightmare. Teagan discovers that the couple have no intentions (seemingly) of letting her go. Teagan tries to leave, but it doesn't help that she has a sprained, infected ankle, due to the car crash. Will they let her go? Why are they keeping her? The answer is shocking. Both of them are neither what Teagan expected. She's in for a more shocking discovery when she finds out who is really behind her car crash. This was definitely a thrilling read. Freida keeps you guessing. There are a lot of plot twists and even some surprising, pleasant twists at the end. If you want a thrilling, page turning read, this is it!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Crash by Freida McFadden.

She is a master to thrillers and twisty suspense. This book gave Misery vibes...yikes! I don't want to go into too much detail, but it was definitely a roller coaster ride. How Freida comes up with stuff is beyond me. You think the book is headed one way, then it twists and turns. It is always a guessing game. I really enjoyed this one. It was a bit redundant at times, but you can just skim past that stuff.

Trigger warnings - rape and being held captive.

The Crash by Freida McFadden is a chilling thriller that combines survival, psychological tension, and the fierce determination of a mother to be. Tegan’s journey begins as an escape from her troubled life, but it quickly spirals into a nightmare when she becomes stranded in a blizzard and accepts help from a seemingly kind couple. She navigates not only the physical dangers around her, but also the psychological threats that creep closer with every passing moment. Tegan is in an odd situation after finding out she is pregnant after a one-night stand. She decides to head to her brother’s to ease her stress a bit.

When she realizes she’s now driving in a blizzard, it is too late to turn back. She crashes her car, and the pain is keeping her in place.

Tegan is relieved when she sees headlights, though her radar goes off when a burly, untalkative man comes to her rescue.
He takes her to his nearby home, where she meets his wife, a woman unable to have children. Will she be a help or a hindrance as they wait out the storm?

This story has all the bells and whistles I’ve come to expect from a Frieda McFadden book, and there is always more to the story than it initially shows.

Tegan is one of those characters that is teetering between being likable or irritating. Even though she is in this horrible position, she has moments when she says something that makes me cringe.

I love the juxtaposition of the couple and how they each come across to Tegan while knowing the reality of their lives.

The story centers around what is happening to these three characters during the snowstorm, yet the reader sees glimpses of their pasts and brings in other characters that add some zing to the ending.
The Crash brings out the heebie-jeebies in the best way possible!

💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

Author Freida McFadden returns with another highly atmospheric thriller with the coming January 2025 release of THE CRASH. The highly acclaimed author of THE BOYFRIEND wastes no time in giving fans what they want - another intense, breathtaking, twisted thriller with a shocking ending no one will be able to predict. This book is a one-seater so find some alone time and settle in for a bumpy ride.

Eight months ago, Tegan went out with friends, met a charming, handsome stranger and made her first mistake. A few short weeks later, she's surprised to learn she's pregnant and after contacting the man from that night, she learns two things . . . the father, Simon, is a wealthy, married man who wants nothing to do with her or the baby, and he's willing to pay a ridiculous amount to keep her quiet in exchange for a nondisclosure agreement. The money will solve her financial woes, but something still nags at her about that night. Why can't she remember? Eight months later when Tegan and Simon meet for the final signing, his presence triggers vague memories of that night, driving her to refuse the money and make plans to seek refuge at her brother's house a couple of hours away. It's late when she begins the trip, and soon a blinding snowstorm causes her to lose control of her vehicle before crashing into a tree, stranding her in a deserted area in the freezing cold with a broken ankle and no way to go for help. When a man in a truck stops to offer help, her relief is short-lived as his size and demeanor frighten her, but she's out of options if she and her unborn baby are to survive. Hank takes Tegan to a cabin hidden away deep in the woods where she meets and bonds with his wife, Polly, a former nurse. With promises to take her to a hospital in the morning when the roads are clear, the mysterious couple settles Tegan in a bed in their basement. As time passes, Tegan begins to suspect that all is not right in this secluded cabin in the woods, and she fears for the life of her unborn child. Has she made her second and potentially fatal mistake?

THE CRASH is a complex, gut-wrenching, locked room style thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Through past/present chapters of before and after “the crash,” readers are drawn into a deadly situation where it's impossible to figure out who can be trusted and who has ulterior motives. From beginning to end, all elements combine to set a deadly scene, driving an insanely suspenseful pace to a final unbelievable reveal. McFadden has cemented her place in the thriller genre as a writer who pushes characters and readers to the edge . . . before pushing them off with a shocker they never see coming. Support characters provide a choice of red herrings with motive who may want Tegan and her child out of the picture permanently. Readers are charged with deciphering the clues to figure out who the villain is before being blind sighted by the truth.

Intense, mesmerizing and heart stopping, THE CRASH is Author Freida McFadden at her best. Fans are going to devour this one in one sitting as I did. Highly recommended to fans of locked room mysteries and suspense thrillers.

Another heart pounding non-putdownable read by the queen of plot. twists.
A quick easy read with all of the fast pacing one has come to expect from McFadden.
The characters seem to all misunderstand one another and assume the worst- creating the tension that pushes the story forward. Fortunately, as the story unfolds the lies and truths behind those misunderstandings come to light.
I"m not always satisfied with McFadden conclusions but this one left me smiling.
For Frieda fans, don't skip this one.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the ARC!

Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn’t realize she’s heading straight into a blizzard.

She never arrives at her destination.

Stranded in rural Maine with a dead car and broken ankle, Tegan worries she’s made a terrible mistake. Then a miracle occurs: she is rescued by a couple who offers her a room in their warm cabin until the snow clears.

But something isn’t right. Tegan believed she was waiting out the storm, but as time ticks by, she comes to realize she is in grave danger. This safe haven isn’t what she thought it was, and staying here may have been her most deadly mistake yet.

I have to say this is not my favorite Frieda book. This needs to come with trigger warnings for sure. It gives Misery vibes if you have read that one. Just giving this one a 3 out of 5.

Another twisty thriller from Frieda McFadden! This short novel follows eight month pregnant Tegan, a young woman who is living paycheck to paycheck to survive. Tegan heads out in a storm to visit her brother, but before she knows it the storm becomes a blizzard. She crashes in rural Maine. Alone, cold, and stuck she is rescued by a couple, but nothing is as it seems and Tegan will need to keep her wits about her if she wants to survive.

This novel is a quick read and gives off Kathy Bates, 'Misery' vibes. While McFadden crafts her usual deceptive and intricate storylines, this novel falls short compared to her other works. The tension doesn't hold tight through the story, but readers will want to continue to the end to unravel key plot points.

Frieda McFadden's books are often a hit or miss for me. I enjoy her Housemaid series, but her other works can vary greatly in quality. This particular book felt like a bizarre fever dream at times, with little suspense and an unsatisfying ending. It started off promising, but the plot twist was far-fetched and the story didn’t improve from there. The ending was also mediocre. I do like that her books are often fast pace and are easy to read but this book was a huge disappointment.

Why do I keep reading this author?? I keep thinking I'm missing something with her popularity but if so, I'm still missing it. This book was boring AF!!! How do you even write a boring "thriller" with a psychopath?! Absolutely nothing interesting happens, far from the can't put it down vibe her other books at least have. This was literally worse than watching paint dry. AWFUL. 🤦🏻‍♀️😭

Zero stars.

I enjoyed! It was a page turner for sure!! There were points where I was like for real…. Hank could have called the police so many times.

McFadden's best so far. The tension in this thriller comes from the bad decisions made by desperate characters. Set against a chilling blizzard and drawing on the themes of motherhood and female vulnerability, this book meets the moment perfectly and keeps the reader alternatively cheering for and chastising the characters, on the edge of their seat until the gratifying conclusion.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat, from beginning to end. Hints of Stephen King's Misery, with less gore. Satisfying ending.

I am a big Freida McFadden fan and read her books as soon as I can get my hands on them. Thank you, #netgalley.com, for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. It was a fast and great read, like all of her books. You get pulled right in and can't stop reading. This one left me a little disappointed, even though it takes place in my home state of Maine. The location doesn't matter, though. It mostly takes place in one room. The twists were a little predictable and far-fetched. However, I enjoyed the book and will order it for our library.
