It's official, T.J. Newman is a new favorite author of mine! These books are so uniquely terrifying for me and incredibly well-executed. The pacing and the story are always there. I'm giving this a pretty short and sweet review because I don't have any criticism to give. Highly recommend this book and highly recommend both of T.J. Newman's other books.
On a side note, I was lucky enough to get an e-book and audiobook of this one to immersive read. I really loved the narrator of the audio version, but I definitely had to slow it down at times to help myself keep better track of which characters were which. Loved both versions though, and I do recommend both. Just something to keep in mind if you are debating between which version to go with for your read.
Anyway, I really enjoyed everything about this one and am excited to get my hands on future books by this author ✈️🔥

A commercial airplane goes down - which is a tragedy in itself. However, it is immediately apparent that the casualties from the plane crash are likely just the beginning based on the rubble that hit the nuclear power plant. Worst Case Scenario, like Drowning by the same author, would make a spectacular movie. It's fast-paced, engrossing, and riveting - the story of a huge disaster in a small town, and all the people who came together to do whatever they could to make a difference. Clear your schedule if you're picking this book up - you won't want to put it down until you see how it all ends.
I read Worst Case Scenario via audiobook (thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the advance listen). While the narrator did an impressive job in many respects...if you, like me, would be constantly annoyed by an incorrect pronunciation of the word "nuclear" (in particular when the word is supposedly coming out of the mouths of numerous experts as well as the President), opt for reading the physical or digital version of this book rather than the audio.

Worst Case Scenario is so tense, poignant, and terrifying. This book is my favorite read of the year so far. Told from multiple perspectives, this story takes you through one of the most terrifying accident scenarios possible with the potential to end humanity. It also tells the tale of everyday people doing their best to save their families and the rest of the world at their own expense. If you're looking for an emotional rollercoaster—this is it. The narration by Joe Morton is phenomenal.

Scary, terrifying, exciting, nail biter- those are the first few words that come to mind to describe this book. I’ve loved the previous two books the this author and this one was just as good. TJ Newman knows how to captivate her audience attention and keep them engaged until the very last chapter.

Oh. My. Gosh. Are you looking for an intense survival thriller that will not only raise your blood pressure, but also give you heart palpitations? Then I have the book for you!
The author asked multiple pilots what their "worst case scenario" would be, to which one replied "crashing into a nuclear plant." ...and the rest is history. I didn't think she could possibly top Drowning, but this one did!
This was a very raw look at what would happen if a plane really did crash into a nuclear plant. I don't know if the science was accurate (hello i'm an accountant, not a nuclear physicist) but honestly i don't care. If i could give this book ten stars, i would. Definitely top 5 favorite of the year. Btw--if a thriller can make me cry, you know it's good.
As far as the audiobook goes, PERFECTION. So well done with radio actual speaker sounds. If you don't like audiobooks, i think this would be a fun one to tandem listen to while reading because the audio really added so much to the experience.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the free audiobook in exchange for my honest review. Joe Morton narrates this story and does a fantastic job! Such a wonderful audiobook!
If the prolog does not hook you, you might want to check your pulse!!! This is such a suspenseful, realistic, nail biter! I literally had to recharge my airpods to finish this one!
Imagine if an airplane full of passengers and fuel crashes near a nuclear reactor in the US. Is it terrorism? Another 911? An accident? What about the nuclear reactors being damaged and leaking radiation? What would that mean for civilization or life as we know it? This is that story.
I felt like I was listening to a real life story ripped from the headlines! All of the characters are strong but flawed, making the best decisions in the moment. The plot is brilliant, and the writing is rock solid!
Highly Recommend!!!

A widow-maker heart attack and bad circumstances causes a passenger plane to crash into a small town north of Minneapolis. Once the wreckage settles, the town is faced with a crisis that will have national implications. Because pieces of the plane have damaged the town's nuclear power plant, setting it on a course for a nuclear disaster if the trapped residents cannot find a way to save the plant.
Worst Case Scenario is the exact kind of big cast disaster story that I wanted after Eruption left me incredibly disappointed. The story is just constantly moving and every time I think there will be a rest, Newman throws a new wrench at the characters that keeps everyone in danger. Newman does a great job moving to a novel not primarily set in the confines of a plane. The story flips back and forth between various workers and townspeople at the nuclear power plant, a group of firefighters attempting a rescue on a bridge, and the President of the United States trying to manage his first major crisis. Newman does a wonderful job building out all of the plotlines and characters that you root for them to succeed and feel very emotional when things go wrong. Anyone who enjoyed Newman's prior works will love this one as well. Her prior two books still had large casts of characters and breakneck paces and this book is no different.
A note for the audiobook: Joe Morton is an excellent narrator who helps a lot to bring the story to life, but be warned that the book is constantly shifting perspectives, which is not always as apparent in the audiobook.
Thank you to Little, Brown and NetGalley for a copy of Worst Case Scenario in exchange for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of T.J. Newman's two previous books, Falling and Drowning. I love how they were both a thriller set within an airplane scenario. With Newman's newest thriller, Worst Case Scenario, the airplane isn't where the main action takes place, it's the device that causes the main plot. A plane crash that causes a major catastrophic event!
I read the Kindle version of the book at well as listened to the audiobook. The audiobook adds another dimension to the layers of this book. The sound production with the added sound effects layered in makes this feel like an all around theatrical event. Narrator Joe Morton shines with his ability to seamlessly switch between characters without it feeling confusing, It's thoroughly performed.
I love how Newman took what she's great at in the last two books and makes a pivot. This doesn't take away from the action but instead fuels it. It makes the stakes that much bigger. I was completely on the edge of my seat with this novel. I didn't want to put it down but also had to at times because of its intensity.
This book was a thrill ride for me and i enjoyed every minute of it!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook before it releases next week. As with all of the T.J. Newman books I've read, this is a don't forget to breathe book. It was addicting and fast paced. I actually had to turn it off while I was driving because it was becoming so distracting. I don't know if that has ever happened to me before. The audio is excellent. I loved how it sounded like actually CB radio broadcasts and all the other great sound enhancements that made this book come alive. My only complaint was that it occasionally jumped from scene to scene and there was no change in the audio so it took me a second to reorientate. I absolutely loved the character development and the setting. This was so good if you like a disaster type thriller. I highly recommend it on audio.

I'm convinced authors are now writing books purely so they can be adapted for the screen. This is an action-packed blockbuster that gave me Armageddon vibes from start to finish. I have no idea how accurate this scenario would be but I am now terrified. What could be worse than a plane full of people crashing into a building full of people? Crashing into a nuclear power plant. This startling conclusion is just the beginning.
I was expecting something simple, a kind of palette cleanser between heavier books. What I wasn't expecting was something with heart, with characters that felt real. I'll admit I teared up towards the end. The narrator did a great job differentiating the many characters and conveying the intense action. I also liked the little touches of radio sounds and the overall production. Highly recommend the audiobook.

Worst Case Scenario by T.J. Newman was a fast paced, captivating novel. I was hooked from the explanation of the inspiration for this novel and suspense started immediately.
The story begins when a pilot has a heart attack while flying and the plane crashes into a nuclear power plant. The story follows how a small town manages this disaster and follows two separate emergencies.
The plot and characters were well developed and was very suspenseful as well as heart wrenching at times.
The narrator, Joe Morton, did a great job and his pace and inflection was excellent making all the emotions I felt more powerful.
While this genre is not my norm, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Thanks to NetGalley, Little, Brown, and Company, Hachette Audio, and TJ Newman for providing me the ALC of Worst Case Scenario in exchange of my honest review.

4.5⭐️
Like the other two TJ Newman books I’ve read, this was highly entertaining, super fast paced and bingeable. I flew through this!
The audiobook was great and this was a heart warming and shocking story.
I will say there was quite a bit of scientific jargon I didn’t understand, but the author did a good job of still making the story comprehendible and I didn’t feel lost as to what was happening.
I shed a few tears at the end and just overall love this author and her writing!
Thank you, NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the audio ARC! This was a highly anticipated book for me and it did not let me down!

I will always love how bingeable and unputdownable these books are! Truly it gives me anxiety to stop reading cause I’m like nooo I need to know what happens next. SO ridiculously good on audio, as always. It made me feel like I was there, which is awful and scary, but the production was *chefs kiss*
This one was less about plane anxiety and more a freak accident involving a plane. Imagine Chernobyl in rural Minnesota and that’s what this book is about. It’s wild, scary, emotional and stressful.
This one felt sadder than the last one by this author, so the emotional pull was definitely there. This freak accident wasn’t just about the people on the plane, but everyone affected. So somehow that made it feel more real/upsetting.
Highly recommend and definitely say listen to the audio!!

4 Stars!
I would 100% recommend listening to the audiobook of Worst Case Scenario!
There are a lot of characters in this novel, but the narrator does an fantastic job! It felt like you were watching a movie because it was so intense and stressful.
Thank you NetGalley, Little Brown & Co., and Hachette for the advanced audiobook.

4.5 stars!
This was fantastic on audio!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this and wow was it a whirlwind of emotions!
Worst Case Scenario is a bit different from Newman’s other two novels ‘Falling’ and ‘Drowning’ in the sense that the storyline doesn’t take place in the airplane itself. This time it takes place after an aircraft crashes into a nuclear power plant! This definitely made it not as claustrophobic like her other two, BUT, it definitely still had that adrenaline inducing effect!
Highly recommend this on audio for full effect!
Out August 13th, 2024
Thank you Little Brown & Co. and Hachette for the advanced ebook and audio!!

Listening to this makes you feel like you're watching a movie! Very intense and high impact. A really good listen that I'd recommend to anyone who loves action movies!

Mid air a pilot has a heart attack and a massive 757 crashes into a nuclear power plant. On the Nuclear Event Scale, Chernobyl was a level 7, if those in charge don’t solve this one - it can be a level 8 - a disaster never before seen with global implications far beyond anything you want to even imagine.
When I saw that TJ Newman had a new book I knew I had to get my hands on it - little did I know the level of stress that this book was going to inflict on me (I’d say I got to a level 6). This book, like her others, has a plane crash (hence the plane on the cover) and multiple storylines. What I liked about this one was the creativity and ingenuity of the nuclear power plant storyline - it was super interesting and super stressful. That being said I wasn’t as connected to the characters and the ancillary storylines as the last two novels and I think what I really like about Newman’s novels is that she takes you on a wild ride and a heartfelt story at the same time. This one certainly had the ride - I had to switch to the audiobook (which was great btw and I highly recommend) because reading stressed me out too much and the ride was great, I just missed the connection with characters I had in her other two novels. Still throughly enjoyed this and am on the edge of my seat waiting for her next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the ARC to review

This is such a heart-pounding book. I felt deeply for the characters. This is a kind of book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the special sound effects and narrator did an amazing job. I felt like I was on the plane and experiencing all that was happening in the book.
Thanks to the Publisher and Author

Excellent audiobook. Great narrator. If you like everyone to end up safe, this may not be for you. While there are human losses of strangers and characters we cared about, there was nothing false in the telling. I would have liked it to go on and on, but the ending told me what I needed to know. Great author.
