T.J. always knows how to write a thrilling read. Using past experiences and building on past reads this once again stuns with this newest.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hatchette Audio for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I have read all of T.J. Newman's books and I am a fan of her writing. The first 2 books I really enjoyed but this one wasn't my favourite. Her other 2 books were more based on mystery and thriller on incidents that occurred on an airplane in flight and to me that was very interesting and captured my attention. This book however was based on the incident that happened when a plane crashed on the ground. It was an ok read but I just didn't like it as much as the other books. Enjoy!!!

T.J. Newman has found her niche in writing thrillers about plane disasters. However, this one was slightly different. The book isn't really about a plane crashing, but more about the events that happen to a small town after the plane crashes. I was very surprised to see that the plane crashes in the first chapter after the pilot has a heart attack and dies. Once the plane crashes into a nuclear power plant in a small town, we are introduced to many of the characters that we will be following for the rest of the book. This is what surprised me the most (but also what made this book so good), all of the normal, everyday people who come together to try and help save the town (and the world) from a nuclear disaster. While this was very much a "disaster movie" this was also a study of small-town families and values. Many of the characters become heroes in their own way, and some of them lose their lives while doing so. I wouldn't say there is anything groundbreaking here, but I thought the book was well written, the situations were cinematic, and you grow to root (and cry) for the characters throughout. I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it as a good summer read.

Thanks to @NetGalley and Hachette Audio for providing me with a free audio ARC in exchange for an honest book review. A quick word about the audiobook, the narrator was excellent and they used special effects so anytime someone was talking on a CB radio it actually sounded like that when you're listening. It was just a small touch, but it helped bring the scenes/dialogue to life.

This is the second Newman book I have read and it was a definite favorite. I listened to the entire audiobook in one day. Great mix of character development and suspenseful storyline. Tense from beginnng to end.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When a Coastal Airlines Captain suffers a widow maker heart attack, no one is prepared for its disastrous aftermath. There has never been a level 8 nuclear disaster. Is today the day? Gut wrenching, heart stopping and electrifying, this is one thriller you won’t want to miss! Newman knows how to write a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first word until the last. Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for an ALC of this book.

This book was very intense and captivating! This was a very gripping story that's perfectly paced. It is a book you won't want to put down and that has you on edge all the way through.

The characters were well done and the different povs only adds to the tension. As always Newmans writing is intriguing and very beautiful done! I'm already excited for her next book!

The audiobook of this book is amazing! The narrater and the effects made the story even more exciting. If you are planning to read this book I will definitely recommend listening to it on audio!

A nail biting thriller. It really kept me interested. If i had the time, I would have gone through it in one sitting because i just wanted to know what was going to happen next. I listened to the audiobook and it was very well done.

My only issues with this book were a few of the scenes as written were just *too* much. It was written solely for shock value and totally unnecessary.
***** Spoilers *****

The scene on the bridge where the wing crushes the van. There is a part where the author says the dad tried to stop but it was too late. The author could have ended it at that point. But no, they talked about how the daughters body was whiplashed so much she died. And the mother was crushed to death. And the dad's legs were crushed. And the little bit was by himself crying. That shook and disturbed me so much that I struggled to continue reading and I considered stop reading the book. That entire scene was unnecessary. I get that it sets up a rescue mission, but it could have ended with "it was too late" and then started up again with the discovery by the firefighters that Conor was alive.

I also thought the vast description of all the passengers in fear as the plane was going down could have been avoided, Again, they talked about crying babies and all that. Maybe I'm triggered die to being a new mom, but these sort of descriptions just seem unnecessary and take away from the book. If these two issues had not been in the book, I probably would have given it 5 stars. Not sure if I will recommend it to others, at least to other mothers, to be honest.

This book was so intense! I could not put it down! The descriptions and details were so vivid, I could almost imagine myself in that situation. There were times that I had to fight back tears because of what was going on. This was a very well written book. The narration for the audiobook was amazing!

TJ Newman has crafted another edge-of-your-seat adventure as this time Coastal Airlines has had a plane crash into a nuclear plant in a small Minnesota town. Worst Case Scenario follows the townspeople, firefighters, and nuclear plant workers as they try to avert a major disaster. I really loved the characters in this book as we watch Dani trying to save one small boy left alone in the accident, Joss who warned everyone that an accident like this was possible, and Steve and Ethan as they butt heads and try to keep the plant from melting down. The action is intense, Morton's narration keeps you glued to the story, and the emotions are real. Thank you to Hachette Audio, Little Brown & Co, and NetGalley for the early listen in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a gripping story that kind of scares the crap out of me. I don't want to be anywhere near anything nuclear, but being close sounds irrelevant to our doom if something happens. This tells several different stories at the same time. I read and listened to this book. I think I should have started out reading it though due to a lot of characters. The narrator did one heck of a great job, there were special sound effects and extreme suspense in the story. Several times I found tears in my eyes at the frustration and horror of the story. THe only down fall of the book was all the technical jargon and scientific information, but it does sort of have to be part of the story to be able to tell the story. I've read all of this authors books and I will continue to gobble up what ever TJ puts out next. Thanks NetGalley, Hachette Audio and Little, Brown and Company for the opportunity to read and listen to this great story.

This is the third heart-pounding thriller by T.J. Newman, and it is just as good as the first two! Here the unthinkable happens: a pilot has a heart attack in mid-air, and the plane crashes into a nuclear power plant. The action quickly moves from the plane to the ground, and the main characters include the power plant employees, first responders, and people who live in the nearby town. Together they try to avert disaster, on a tight deadline. This is exactly the fast-paced thriller that readers have come to expect from this author, a former flight attendant. yet, it is also heart-warming and funny when appropriate. Thanks to NetGalley I had the opportunity to review both the ebook and the audiobook, and I can highly recommend both formats.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC audiobook for an honest review.

The horror genre may be scary, but nothing is as freak out, heart racing, scary with a capital "S" as a situation like the one in this book that could totally happen in real life! AHHHHHHH! Worst Case Scenario takes the perfect storm of calamities that leads to the gravest potential outcome for the fate of the world. The narrator did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and showcasing the severity of the situation. There are many characters and side stories pulled together by the horrific circumstances. I was invested in each one! This would make a great movie...

Holy guacamole - this book is intense! I know we’ve all read in reviews before that “this book had me on the edge of my seat” and we all kind of eye roll because really? But really! This book had me on the literal. edge. of. my. seat.

I know less than zero about nuclear power. But I do know that a plane crashing into a nuclear power plant is probably not a good thing. I appreciated when one of the characters asked for the situation to be explained to him like he was 5 because I knew they would be breaking this down to my level. I quickly realized I didn’t need to understand much of the technical stuff because things were moving so quickly and the tense action was paired with emotional moments throughout.

Racing heart, teary eyes - this book was such a great read.

I had both the print and audio versions of this book. Both are great but the audio is next level.

Another high octane, edge-of-your-seat thriller from TJ Newman. While this one is quite a bit different from her others, as it doesn't occur in a plane, it takes place *because of* a plan crash, and is just as suspenseful! The only thing preventing this from being a full five star was the large cast of characters that I struggled to keep track of. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook format, as the narrator is spectacular, I do wonder if I'd have gotten as lost if id read the print. That minor criticism aside, this was fantastic and I'd absolutely recommend it

Huge thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted ALC. My review will be posted to my socials in the coming days.

Can I give this more than 5 stars?!
This is the third book by T.J. Newman and I couldn't put it down. It is so well written, the characters are well developed and the plot is well thought out and flows perfectly. The book opens with distress on a flight over the rural Midwest. When the plane crashes near a power plant in Minnesota, the lives of a small town and the nation are impacted. The debris blocks roads. The power goes out and communications go down. Residents, emergency responders, teachers, children, and power plant workers are all tested as they maneuver through this catastrophic event. The Worst Case Scenario.

the setup…
The pilot of commercial airliner Delta Flight 224 suddenly has a widow-maker heart attack at 35,000 feet while his first officer is out of the cockpit. The plane plunges to the ground, crashing into a nuclear power plant in Waketa, Minnesota. That small town becomes the epicenter for the most catastrophic event the world has ever faced…categorized as a Level 8 on the International Nuclear Event Scale, which only has 7 levels.

the heart of the story…
The people in Waketa were used to drills living in a town with a nuclear plant. But when they felt the impact of that plane throughout the town, nothing went according to plan as communications were cutoff or disabled. There’s a heartbeat in small communities and this one beat strong as in the middle of all the confusion, the residents rose to the occasion. Ordinary citizens brought their skills, resources and common sense to the table as they sought to do the right things and take care of each other while the brightest and smartest minds worked to resolve the catastrophe at the nuclear plant. It was riveting and scary stuff that kept me breathless.

the narration…
Joe Morton was just a brilliant choice to tell this story. That voice brought all the right emotions, tension and poignancy to create vivid images of the scenes and characters. I can still hear him.

the bottom line…
There’s a lot of science here that went over my head but it just wasn’t important as the President (the kind you dream of having in these situations) demanded plain speak. I was drawn into the separate dramas going on outside of the nuclear disaster as you can imagine the wide range of devastation when a jet falls from the sky. But it was the spirit of the community that captured my heart and imagination with heroes rising from unusual places, risking their lives to save not only their town but potentially the world. Newman strikes gold yet again. I’ll always read whatever she wants to write.

Worst Case Scenario by TJ Newman is oh so edge of your seat good. If you like suspense, action, fast paced, planes, what goes on behind the scenes of a nuclear crisis then you will like this book.

Newman takes you on an airplane as it crashes down into a nuclear power plant in Waketa, Minnesota, that cuts off communication from the rest of the world. He made you feel like you were a part of this story. You along with the characters that are in a race against time to stop the destruction the nuclear power station could cause if it exploded. You feel the urgency to stop the explosion and to save lives. The story, characters, the sacrifices, and the stress kept me engaged from the minute I started this audiobook. He knows how to play into people’s fear of flying. He did such an amazing job with all of the characters especially Dawson. There were so many characters and storylines that tied into each other.

Worst Case Scenario is a fantastic unputdownable ride. Joe Morton did an amazing job narrating, so many voices and making you feel the urgency of all of the evens taking place. It was a wild ride!! Thank you to Little, Brown, & Company and NetGalley for letting me listen an audiobook ARC for my honest thoughts and opinions.

Written by a previous flight attendant, Newman has come up with a "worst case scenario" regarding a plane crash. What the plane crashes into can be completely devastating, even beyond the life and damage to those on board. This was a full throttle book that kept the reader engaged and on the edge of their seat. There were a few times that the details of story were a bit laborious and confusing, but I was able to dismiss them and catch the overall point of the book. The audiobook had some exterior sounds that made it immersive. For example, when characters were talking on the radio to each other the sound was different.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hatchette Audio for the gifted ALC.

I had reservations when the intro of the book summarized Newman's effort to come up with a new plot, which apparently consisted of her constantly hounding pilots about their greatest fears until one of them finally identified something she felt she could write about. Things just went downhill from there.

You'd think a female author would have more female main characters, especially women in power, especially in a "thriller" involving the White House, a nuclear power plan, several federal and state agencies, and a handful of pilots. You'd be wrong in that thinking!

While there are a LOT of characters here, hardly any are female, and certainly not in any position of power. The president? A white male. All the pilots are male. The firefighters? Male. The police officers? Yep, they're men too. What about the heads of agency, you ask? Yes, they're alllll men.

To add insult to injury, the few women we ARE introduced to are clearly classified as mothers or not-mothers. The not-mother identifies so strongly as being a not-mother, she mentions it in her introduction to the President. All mothers and not-mothers spend all their time thinking about offspring, even during a literal nuclear meltdown. Non-mother's legacy is a potential love interest that could have made her a mother.

The technical aspects read like Newman copied and pasted the passages, or attended a recorded lecture and wrote the information out verbatim.

None of this felt thrilling, authentic, or enjoyable, and I could not recommend a book less.
