Shelley, Lena and Pearl decide to book a mini break to Scotland after finishing Christmas preparations. They turn up at a relatives B&B and end up running the establishment and looking after guests. They are snowed in for Christmas and each woman thinks about their current life choices and what they would change. When they finally arrive home, can they go back to their old lives?
This was an enjoyable read with some great characters. I liked the ending as it wrapped up all the storylines nicely.
A cosy, heartwarming storyline which is perfect for a festive read.

This book was such a delight. I loved that the book had multiple POVs and even though it was a holiday themed book it wasn’t over the top. This book was really easy to read and a whole lot of fun.

Fiona Gibson's books are invariably fun and relatable, and Tis the Damn Season (I've noticed Taylor Swift inspired titles having a moment lately!) was no exception. As the title implies it's Christmas-related, following friends Shelley, Lena and Pearl as they take the unexpected decision to head off to the Scottish Highlands for a pre-Christmas break, leaving behind useless husband Joel and teenage kids Martha and Fin (Shelley), lovely boyfriend Tommy (Lena) and son Brandon and his annoying girlfriend Abi (Pearl).

Of course things don't go quite according to plan - first they are left in charge of the B&B after urging its owner, Pearl's cousin Michael, to head to London to pursue an online romance. Then they get snowed in along with the B&B guests. Meanwhile, back at home Joel in particular is finding certain of his chickens coming home to roost. By the time Christmas is over, everyone will find things have changed, some more than others....

A very enjoyable read. Apologies for taking so long to review!

I absolutely love a Taylor Swift coded romance! And for the holidays! Honestly, name a more perfect duo. This was perfectly paced, the banter was on point, and I absolutely loved the ending! Such a great holiday romance!

This book is a fabulous story, the feeling that happiness and being with loved ones is what is most important,
The storyline follows along with friends Shelley, Lena and Pearl, they’re all ready for some time out, away from their regular lives!
The girls decide to stay in the highlands in the days leading up to Christmas, they’re usually making sure their families are looked after.
As the story unfolds we hear how easily some people feel undervalued and not appreciated. It’s so relatable to see the struggle of balancing all that we deal with. Friends are so important in our lives, this book is a great example of why.
It’s lovely to see the interaction between the main characters and the other guests, there’s fun and an infectious atmosphere coming from the pages.
I enjoyed the feelings, the genuine connection and would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a friendly feel good read!

Thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lighthearted, easy to read, and predictable, but a good read any time of year. Would like to see how Shelley and Michael's story progresses.

'Tis the Damn Season by Fiona Gibson is a hilarious and heartwarming holiday read that perfectly captures the chaos and humor of family life during Christmas. Old friends Shelley, Lena, and Pearl, fed up with the holiday preparations always falling on their shoulders, decide to take a much-needed break in the Scottish Highlands. But when they get snowed in just days before Christmas, they’re forced to confront the personal challenges that led them to escape in the first place.

Gibson’s writing is witty and relatable, filled with sharp humor and moments of genuine emotion. The chemistry between the three friends is delightful, and the mix of quirky characters and festive mishaps keeps the story fun and engaging. While the plot feels a bit predictable at times, the charm of the characters and their journey to rediscover what matters most makes it a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is the perfect book for fans of lighthearted holiday novels, offering both laughter and a bit of heartwarming insight into family dynamics. A perfect cozy read for the Christmas season!

This was a lovely festive read about three long-time friends who need to get away.
Lena, Pearl and Shelley have had enough. It's time to escape the frantic festive season and what better way than to take a spontaneous trip to the Scottish Highlands to get away from it all? After all, surely family can cope for just a few days before the lead up to Christmas ? ......

This one took a minute for me to get into. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t the read I thought it would be.
So just imagine. 3 best friends, they decide to get away on a little weekend retreat right before Christmas, and then find themselves alone there to man the ship but get snowed in for longer than expected. Secrets are told, lies are found out, the end of this book was great

‘Tis the Damn Season was another fantastic read by Fiona Gibson. I giggled all the way through it. Read in one day I devoured this book and could not put it down. Easy to read but so much fun.

Shelley, Lena, and Pearl are sick and tired of being responsible for everything Christmas entails - buying gifts, decorating, meal planning, etc. They take off for a long weekend in Scotland where the biggest decision is what to drink. Unfortunately it doesn’t work out that way, they end up running the Inn for a few days while the owner goes to London and then find themselves snowed in and unable to leave.
They each have a different reaction for being gone for so long, and now they’re wondering if they can get back before Christmas
I liked getting to know the 3 friends, 4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. I was excited to get a story about three friends who get away from their stressful family lives to have some cozy holiday time together, unfortunately what I got was second hand stress and anger. The plot just didn’t work for me, I didn’t like how they took upon the stress of running the Bed and Breakfast, and the family that stayed there was insufferable! I also hated Joel, and honestly their kids aggravated me too. The only highlight for me, unfortunately, was their friendship and how much they all cared about the people in their lives. Thank you Netgalley, Fiona Gibson, and the publishers for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.

ARC Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There is no other way to say it, Shelley is burnt out! Tired of everyone, especially her husband, relying on her to make the Christmas season happen, she decides to escape to Scotland just days before the holiday. Joined by Lena and Pearl, two of her oldest friends, Shelley immediately feels a sense of relief. Will taking time away from her family allow both sides to appreciate each other more, or will it highlight irreconcilable cracks in their family?

Novels centering around the holidays have gotten a reputation for being wholesome, idealistic, and even corny. However, Gibson pens a relatable story rooted in common hardships. This book focuses on family dynamics including infidelity, loss, and how combining two sets of traditions and customs into one day often causes contention between couples.

I loved that this book is female lead and features strong, independent women! As a result, I would highly recommend Tis the (damn) Season to every woman!

Special thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Fiona Gibson in exchange for my honest review.

This was a great read for holiday time. It follows a group of three friends in their 40s who are burnt out on having to manage Christmas for their families. They decide to take a quick holiday the week before Christmas and leave their families to take on some of the responsibility while they're gone.
The story moves between lots of viewpoints, but it kept things fresh and moving along quickly.
It felt a little heavy-handed with a men are stupid/incompetent/scoundrels, but that's sort of the vibe you're expecting with a book like this. Overall, it was a lot of fun and well-written.
