Note: Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and author Sue Fortin for the advanced reader copy of this book. What follows is my unbiased review of the book.

Had Your Little Lies not been an advanced reader copy that I committed to reviewing, I probably wouldn't have finished it. That said, I'm glad I pressed on and finished it, for by the end it gave me a lot to think about and was a decent mystery.

Hannah and Jasper are partners who move with their 7-year-old daughter to an exclusive community in the south of England on the English Channel. Jasper loves her, despite the fact that he knows she has secrets. He accepts her anxiety and behavior without question, believing that when the time is right she will tell him. Moving out of London to the community of Silverbanks was supposed to be part of reassuring Hannah.

That's not how it turns out. When Hannah recognizes a neighbor, she's worried that her past is catching up to her, despite the reassurances Bryan gives her. Another neighbor, Annabelle, seems to draw Hannah out of her shell a bit until a few incidents put Hannah on edge. Is she imagining it or is someone targeting Hannah and her family? When Bryan turns up dead, it would seem Hannah's worst fears are confirmed.

Your Little Lies is a psychological thriller, which only works if the protagonist seems to be in peril. That is certainly the case here. Hannah flashes back to her old life as Laurel Jordan to explain how she got to this place. She was put into witness protection when she testified in a murder trial of Daniel Sully, who was a loan shark with ties to organized crime. The problem I had was that most of the peril that Laurel/Hannah found herself in practically had neon signs in front warning her off. It's obvious from the start that Annabelle is someone to be cautious of. I wanted to scream at Hannah as she continually dismissed the warning signs, yet we're told that for the past 11 years, she has been so cautious. The same is true in her old life as Laurel. There are so many warning signs from Daniel, yet she feels drawn to him despite being a married woman. Laurel's husband, Matt, turns out to be a jerk, but at the beginning of her story, they are a happily married couple with a son.

It was upon reflection that I saw something else about Laurel/Hannah. She's typical of so many women who were raised to doubt themselves even when the truth is right in front of them. Daniel is a smooth talker and charmer, yet Laurel seems to fall for him rather quickly. Her supposedly loving husband has been undermining her confidence, treating her work as an interior decorator as a hobby and telling her that Daniel has only hired her because he pities her. Yet, he expects her to do whatever it takes to help him get a contract with him. Laurel tells Matt that she's uncomfortable with some of the things Daniel has said and done, but Matt doesn't stand up to protect his wife. Instead, he tells her she is overreacting and dismisses her discomfort.

The same is true for Laurel when she is Hannah. There are so many red lights about Annabelle's behavior, yet Hannah seems to be so desperate for a friend she continually talks herself out of heeding the warning signs that are pretty hard to miss. Jasper is more supportive of her than Matt ever was, but he can't help being confused that she still won't confide her secret to him.

Your Little Lies was a decent mystery, and I eventually appreciated Hannah as the embodiment of a woman who has little to no confidence in herself and needs a man to reassure her. I don't think that's the type of heroine I could root for in the long run, though. I found myself more annoyed by her behavior and obtuseness. When I can't root for the protagonist, it's hard to feel invested in the thriller/mystery part of the story.

WHOA!! This book was so good! I was pulled in from the very beginning, and the fast pace, twists, and drama kept me entertained until the very end. This was my first book by this author, and I plan to read more.

This was such a powerful thriller. There were moments that made me sad and moments that made me gasp out loud. It was such a compelling story that kept me captivated the more the plot revealed itself. There were twists that I definitely didn't predict. The character development was top notch as I felt like I really knew these characters. I was on the edge of my seat the entire ride.

This is one of the best books I have read!!
It had me chasing my tail backwards and forwards trying to figure out what would happen next, it certainly gave my mind a work out.. when. Hannah, Jasper and their daughter Pia move to an up market gated property with views of the beach, they have it all or do they?? One of them is hiding a deep dark secret, who ? And what? As I made my way through the book, it was intense....... I have never read anything by this author before, but if all her other books are this good, she has a new fan. Definitely recommend, if your looking for a physcological thriller.

This book was a major step up from the last one I read by Sue Fortin . This domestic thriller was absolutely fantastic—full of emotions, tension, and unexpected twists. It grabbed me right from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The characters felt so real and had great depth, each one stirring different emotions as the story unfolded. The tension in certain scenes was super intense, and the pacing was spot-on. Sue Fortin has definitely become one of my go-to authors. If you're after a fast-paced domestic thriller, this is one you won't want to miss!

As Hannah moves with her family to an exclusive gated community, the illusion of safety quickly unravels when unsettling incidents and a connection to her buried trauma resurface. Your Little Lies is a gently paced thriller with small town vibes.

It wasn’t entirely my cup of tea - I felt that a lot of the complication could have been resolved more easily, Hannah could have shared her ‘big secret’ with her partner much earlier without concern, and some aspects felt too implausible to be coincidental.

However on the whole it was an enjoyable read, with an interesting premise. The small town setting made for a cosy and intriguing location, and I really loved Jasper - he was a breath of fresh air in this town full of deadly secrets! 3.5 stars rounded up.

Thank you Storm Publishing, Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

YOUR LITTLE LIES by Sue Fortin kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

When Hannah, Jasper and seven year old Pia Gunderson move to the English town of Silverbanks and into an exclusive gated community, Hannah believes she may finally be safe from her past. That is, until she meets her neighbour Brian Chamberton. He is part of the history that she has tried so long to outrun. She finds some solace in neighbour Annabelle, a shoulder to cry on, escape for a few hours and a good bottle of wine. As she gets closer to Annabelle, strange things begin happening around the home. And then a murder rocks the small community and Hannah is left wondering if she is really safe or merely locked in a gilded cage.

Meanwhile interior designer Laurel Jordan and husband Matt are both trying to launch their businesses into the stratosphere with Daniel Sully, who takes a shine to Laurel, almost to the point of stalking her. When Daniel hires both Laurel and Matt, she is thrust into close contact with Daniel. Does he have interior motives? Is she leading him on?

These carefully constructed lives are on a collision course and Hannah is forced to reach out to get help from a most unlikely source. The final confrontation blew me away.

I have enjoyed Sue Fortin’s previous novels for their domestic suspense. This one did not disappoint. Her writing is clear and concise which leads to a very enjoyable read that kept me up. I will continue to follow along for her next psychological thrill ride.

Thank you to NetGalley and storm publishing for this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.

Hannah and her partner, Jasper, just moved to the luxury community of their dreams. What are the odds they move right next door to the person who knows Hannah’s secret and can turn her life upside down?

This story is primarily told in the present with flashbacks to 10 years into the past. The flashbacks were my favorite part and really captured my attention to see how Hannah got to where she was. It was impossible not to sympathize with all she endured and overcame, however the past sometimes has a way of catching up with you.

There were times where I felt like some of the plot was rushed through and would have been more enjoyable if it was dragged out a little more, but otherwise I thought this was an entertaining read!

Thank you to netgalley and storm publishing for the opportunity to read this arc!

There are sinister vibes from the onset of this emotional, pacy, psychological suspense. Hannah, Jasper, her partner and Pia have moved into an elite coastal resort with many rules. Hannah has secrets, and you realise that, drawn into her complex web of lies, they could detrimentally affect her new life. I like the intensity which builds with every twist. I also like how the author draws your empathy for Hannah and the situation she finds herself in, even though she is flawed in some respects. It's a compelling domestic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

An intriguing read. What Hannah went through for so many years because of the things she'd heard and seen. After meeting Daniel her life changed. So many secrets and lies.
Hannah had a good life with Jasper, Pia and Luna but would her past catch up to her?

In "Your Little Lies" by Sue Fortin, the family of Hannah, Jasper, and their daughter Pia relocates to the opulent gated community of Silverbanks, with aspirations of finding security and contentment in their new environment. The residence boasts exquisite amenities, including direct access to the beach, and the community presents itself as supportive and tightly-knit. However, Hannah's perception of safety is upended upon encountering their neighbor, Bryan, who is connected to a traumatic history she has concealed from Jasper. As minor yet disturbing incidents begin to occur, Hannah comes to the realization that her previously secure refuge may, in fact, conceal latent threats to her family's well-being.
The narrative oscillates between the present and a decade earlier, gradually revealing the intricate history of Hannah, formerly known as Laurel. As the plot unfolds, Hannah wrestles with her past and the ramifications of long-buried secrets that emerge, culminating in a murder investigation that calls her innocence into question. The story is characterized by profound character development, suspenseful plot twists, and emotional richness, establishing it as a compelling psychological thriller. Although the length of the novel may occasionally seem excessive, it sustains a vigorous pace and culminates in unforeseen revelations that engage readers until the final pages.

Sue Fortin's Your Little Lies is a gripping psychological thriller that plays with the unsettling contrast between idyllic surroundings and the dark secrets that lurk beneath the surface. With its atmospheric tension and layered characters, this novel keeps readers hooked as it explores the fragile boundary between safety and danger, trust and deception.

The novel introduces us to Hannah and Jasper, a seemingly happy couple who have just moved into their dream home in Silverbanks—a luxurious gated community that promises security and serenity. With stunning views and direct access to the beach, it seems like the perfect place for their family, especially for raising their beloved daughter, Pia. However, the peace and calm Hannah craves quickly unravels when she meets her new next-door neighbor. The flicker of recognition in his eyes sends Hannah’s world into a tailspin, transforming her dream home into a place of anxiety and suspicion.

Hannah is a well-crafted character whose past haunts her present. Fortin expertly weaves in subtle hints about Hannah's troubled history, slowly building suspense as her sense of paranoia escalates. Hannah's inner turmoil is relatable and palpable, as the author carefully walks the line between whether her fears are justified or a product of her own mind. Her interactions with her neighbor are tense and filled with an undercurrent of danger, leaving readers questioning his true intentions at every turn.

What sets Your Little Lies apart from many thrillers is Fortin’s ability to create a claustrophobic atmosphere within the seemingly perfect setting of Silverbanks. The gated neighborhood, with its pristine image and close-knit residents, becomes an unsettling backdrop for the psychological warfare that plays out. The contrast between the beautiful surroundings and Hannah’s increasing unease adds to the suspense, making the reader feel as though danger could strike at any moment.

Jasper, Hannah’s husband, plays an interesting role in the novel. His protectiveness and apparent care for Hannah initially seem comforting, but as the story progresses, his character takes on more ambiguous qualities. The dynamics between Hannah and Jasper add to the tension, as their relationship begins to feel strained under the weight of Hannah’s suspicions and fear.

The pacing of the novel is steady, with Fortin dropping small, unnerving details that build toward a climactic revelation. While some elements of the plot may feel familiar to fans of domestic thrillers—such as the tension between neighbors and the secrets hidden behind closed doors—Fortin keeps the story fresh by delving deep into Hannah’s psychological state. The twists and turns are effective, with the final reveal providing a satisfying resolution to the suspense that’s been building throughout the novel.

However, while the story is engaging and tense, some readers may feel that certain aspects of the plot could have been developed further, particularly regarding Hannah's past and the motivations of secondary characters. Nonetheless, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise well-constructed and gripping read.

Final Thoughts:
Your Little Lies is a compelling psychological thriller that draws readers into a seemingly perfect world filled with hidden dangers. Sue Fortin skillfully builds suspense through her well-drawn characters, atmospheric setting, and unsettling twists. Fans of domestic thrillers and slow-burning suspense will find much to enjoy in this dark and tense exploration of trust, fear, and secrets. A solid 4-star read that will leave readers questioning the true meaning of safety and the lies we tell ourselves to maintain it.
