The Bossman by Renee Rose is a good fit for readers seeking a lighthearted and fast-paced romance between a strong-willed woman and a dominant man with a complicated past, exploring themes of desire, submission, and reconciliation.

The Bossman was one of the first—if not THE first—novels that introduced me to mafia romance, and this was a very fast read with nothing between the pages. This book also came out when authors were writing more BDSM type scenes with bratty FMCs and this is what Renee Rose writes here and it falls flat in many areas. Also, it's just impossible for me to believe people who can barely have extended conversations feel this burst of love that makes them stay together between the copious sex scenes. Not for me.

Thank you to Riverdale Avenue Books, Desire and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Renee Rose always writes a good romance/erotic book and this one is no different. Definatly worth a read!

3.5 This was a super short and thus hella fast love story. The two MCs meetup when the hero shows up for a massage with the heroine after an injury. The heroine is dead set against being in any kind of relationship with the hero Joey because she wants no connection to the mafia after what happened to her father. Of course before she knows it things are serious and the two have a lot to overcome given Joey is the brother of the don and next in line to rule. The book was a decent enough read, I think things progressed a little awkwardly and at times too forced like when he has to temporarily take over for his brother. It was just an added obstacle for them to overcome <spoiler>unlike her miscarriage which I feel sort of got glossed over and forgotten.</spoiler> There’s also a slight bdsm tinge to the book especially once the heroine gets the taste for naughtier things 😜 It was an ok read for me but as someone who’s not usually a fan of mafia romances take that as a positive lol

2-2.5 stars...
This is a new author for me, and the first book in the Bossman Series. Considering it’s the first book in the series, I’d expect it to explode with information on the direction the series was heading. I really have no idea what the purpose or direction this series is going. It stems around the mafia/the Family, but didn’t provide any real direction.
Joey La Torre is one of if the Family. He’s brother Al, runs the show. Joey is more of the brains of the operation. Again, I have no idea where the direction of the story is going. Joey wants out of the Family business as he never really felt that was who he was.
Sophie is more than familiar with the Family as her father was involved. Her mother never accepted his ties, which ultimately cost the life of her father. Sophia has zero desire to be involved, and has kept her distance for sometime.
In walks Joey...Sophie is a massage therapist, and Joey heard she might be able to help him with his injuries knee. Sparks fly, but Sophie insists she’ll never get involved with the Family again.
The whole story just lacked. The concept and ideas are great, but there’s zero direction in this book. I found myself skimming too much of it. The whole thing seemed to revolve around Joey spanking Sophie and her need/desire for that. Literally, they’d fight, he’d spank, and rewind. There was not substance at all, and no real storyline. The was one piece when Sophie spoke of her dad’s death with a member of the Family-THAT is where things should have been built on-that level. Zero connection with the characters.

I love love love a good organized crime book. This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it very much. The story flows great and the characters are well developed. I'm looking forward to reading more in the future

Another good read from the author. Highly recommend. Engaging characters as usual with a little spanking thrown in to spice up the pages of this novel.

I love me some Renee Rose and I enjoyed this one but it wouldn't make it to the top of my RR list. The elements were good - Alpha H, mafia, spankings! I was all aboard the Joey train. Sophie however, not so much. This is short on plot, but long on hotness - sometimes you just need a few spankings without all of the other stuff getting in the way!

Wow! I am blown away by this story! I was drawn in from the first page and was hooked until the last! A great read that I highly recommend! Enjoy the ride!

I didn't really enjoy it. I found it very cheesy and similar to Fifty Shades of Grey. Also, the sex scenes were extremely awkward.

Sophie just didn't know she wanted to be dominated. Well her Mafia don new boyfriend Joey. She's conflicted about his kinky ways but learns to love them. Soft core and not terribly interesting.

After reading the blurb I was super excited to dive in and although I liked it, I didn’t love it. I struggled to follow the story as some scenes and points of view skipped in some places and it was confusing. There’s no denying it’s hot and steamy but I also struggled with Joey and the way he treated Sophie. This book had so much potential but just fell a little short for me. I would read more from this author though.

Hotness in the form of a mob. Yum is all I can say. Haven't really read books from this author. I will read more from them.

Steamy and hot. A girl who suffers and now requires a fully dominant male to be beside her. The story is written beautifully, enjoy the whole reading. Also love the ending.

I felt like I was reading a book with split personality, like it couldn't decide whether to be a sweet romance or a dark mafia story. In the end the two extremes didn't quite merge or convince me to be excited about either direction. I quit around the 60% mark because I just couldn't become invested with any of the characters. The writing was fine, so I would probably try this author with another storyline.

Great book. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot from this book. Thanks to Netgalley, for this free copy. My opinion was my own.

I’ve always loved a good mafia story. True crime, thriller, romance. It doesn’t matter. I eat it up like candy. Because of that, it was easy for me to love Joey. It also made it really difficult for me to completely comprehend why Sophie fights their chemistry so hard. I understand that she’s concerned by the consequences of the life they were born into, but I felt she allowed her mother’s prejudices to have too much weight. Other than Sophie fighting the relationship every step of the way, I loved watching the pair interact. From Joey’s alpha dominance to the loving way he cared for Sophie, I adored seeing them get to their happily ever after.

I am so happy I received a copy from NetGalley to review for an honest opinion!

This book was so wonderful! This is a sexy mob romance about a woman named Sophie and the man Joey who only wants one date. Sophie is commissioned to work as a massage therapist for Joey. Sophie knows better then to let Joey into her life because she knows one date will make her his completely. Will Joey be able to prove to Sophie he loves her and just wants to make her life amazing?

The writing sometimes left something to be desired, but overall I thought the story was amazing. I love a bad boy with a compassionate side. I really felt very invested in their passionate romance. Also the love scenes are written nicely!

This was an "ok" book. It took a long time to get into the story line. But you're looking for something quick, fairly light and distracting for a "between books" read, this may be for you.

A good intro to Renee Rose's work, but if you're looking for something darker or more substantial, you won't find it here.
