An excellent collection of stories taken from the author's life, covering a fairly wide range of characters and situations exploring different aspects of Korean life, The novella/longer story at the end of this book is very dark, and needs quite a few trigger warnings. It depicts the sort of injustice and cruelty that comes of a system where civil rights have been dropped in favor of state power, attracting sadists to police jobs where they can do whatever they want to anyone they wish on the slimmest of excuses. Given what is going on in real life now, this story serves as quite a cautionary tale, but maybe too dark and with too much on-page sexual violence and police brutality for some readers.
