Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this E-ARC! I thought this was a very bingeable book and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out where it was headed. (I was wrong.) The characters were a little unhinged and unreliable and made some pretty questionable decisions which just made the story that much more entertaining. This is definitely one where you have to suspend some belief and just enjoy the ride!

Rosie Lachlan had always been “too much.” She felt things intensely, she loved intensely, and after her boyfriend dumped her for being crazy, her heart literally broke. With the help of her best friend Nina, a nurse, Rosie learned that her heart donor had been married to a local writer. Through a donor network, Rosie and Morgan, the widower, got to know each other, and Rosie developed a crush on Morgan that was, you guessed it, “too much.”

I like Rosie, and I think most of us can identify with the concept of trying to be something you’re not to attract someone else. Nina was great, and I loved her fierce love and loyalty for Rosie, even as she spoke the truth. There’s a lot going on in this book, and it was a little chaotic at times, but it’s a good, fast read with many twists.

I love an unreliable narrator and a good plot twist. This was my first experience with Megan Collin’s, but it won’t be my last. Cross My Heart is a wild ride with some crazy characters. This book will have you suspecting everyone and keep turning the pages. Definitely recommend this one, especially to fans of Freida McFadden.

3 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A heart transplant patient who becomes obsessed with her donor’s husband? I absolutely had to read this! My gosh, the premise of this book sounded so interesting and unique to me. Unfortunately, my desire to read quickly turned into “this is not what I expected“ - and not in a great way.

This is a slow paced thriller with chapters so long that I found myself losing interest in what I was reading. Although the second half did pick up a bit, I just never really found myself super invested in the story.

It’s mostly mixed media in the first half of the book. This can be hit or miss for me. This was a miss due to the repetitive disclaimer at the beginning of every single email chapter. It just felt like page filler to me - totally unnecessary. The ending was blah. The constant Taylor Swift references in this book had me ready to pull my hair out. I am NOT a Taylor Swift fan. Don’t come at me! 😂

I always love unhinged, obsessive characters, so this saved it a little bit for me. Some of the twists were predictable, but I still enjoyed them.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for my advanced copy to read and review.

Megan Collins is amazing at twists and keeping you engaged!

Rosie is just a normal girl with a new heart. She reaches out to her donors husband (Morgan) anonymously and starts a behind the scenes "relationship". Then Morgan ends up murdered and the race to figure out who murdered him takes them to a place they didn't see coming.

This book kept me interested and engaged the entire way thru. My jaw dropped at the end.

Thank you netgalley for ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a slow burn, I began feeling annoyed with the MC. It did pickup & revealed some twists that I didn’t see coming, so I enjoyed that!
Rosie obviously was not deterred and remained her obsessive self though lol.

From the very first chapter, this book was a whirlwind of suspense! I was utterly captivated by Rosie Lachlan's obsession with her heart donor's husband and her growing suspicion that his wife's death was no accident. The less you know going in, the better, as the twists are truly shocking.

The book's unique structure makes for a dynamic reading experience. The unexpected twists left me audibly gasping as my brain scrambled to piece together the truth. This is a wild, addictive ride with compelling characters and an incredibly fun format!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Megan Collins is a favorite and this one didn’t disappoint!

What really drew me in was the MC Rosie, she is easily relatable yet makes the absolute worst choices, all for the name of love. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and recovering from heart transplant surgery, she’s extremely vulnerable yet curious about her donor. When she discovers the donor’s husband is a local bestselling thriller writer, she crosses a line she shouldn’t and things escalate from there!

Twisty and unpredictable, fast paced and surprisingly, heart-warming!

This was a good, twisty novel! I enjoyed it, and I had no idea how the ending would be. It's a face-paced novel that will keep you guessing the entire time.

I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book was messed up in the best of ways. This was a domestic thriller that was unlike any I have read in the past. Usually they focus on a family or a neighborhood. This focused on a woman who had a heart transplant and the husband of the woman the heart came from. What transpires can only be called eerie and mysterious. The twists I never saw coming.

Twisted psychological thriller? Yes please. We have Rosie, a heart transplant patient connecting through DonorConnect to her donor's family to learn about the person that gave her life to save hers. But this innocent communication quickly turns more sister when someone else ends up dead.

As they begin to talk more and more, Rosie shares information about her life and her journey to find love. But as she starts to dig into Morgan’s previous marriage, she sees a pattern that is dark and concerning. People think Morgan killed his wife, and Rosie is determined to find out if he is too good to be true.

This book was very twisted and I loved it, mistaken identity, someone playing dress up, and overall lies of these characters.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC as it was lovely.

This story is told in first person and interspersed with emails and texts. It follows Rosie who has just connected with the husband of her heart donor through a transplant communications app. Rosie works in a family-owned bridal shop and lives in the apartment on her parents’ property. Her parents are very supportive but worry about her health. Prior to Rosie’s physical heart issues, she went through a serious heartbreak that she is still working through.

I really enjoyed the character of Rosie. She was somewhat obsessive about things, especially relationships with people. Obsessive to the point of stalkerish at times. I found her to be relatable most of the time, maybe not in the most extreme moments, just to qualify. LOL After she makes contact with Morgan, who writes best-selling thrillers, Rosie finds out that the accident that killed his wife may not have been an accident after all. An anonymous individual is targeting Morgan with various accusations and Rosie doesn’t know who to believe.

This was a wild ride that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s told in two parts and when I reached the end of Part 1, I yelled, “Wait! What?!?” and my husband looked up from his book in askance. You’d think he’d be used to that by now. Filled with curiosity, I was on the edge of my seat through part two trying to figure things out and while I suspected various scenarios, I was very entertained by the journey and resolution.

Recommend to thriller lovers that enjoy an obsessive main character.

Rosie views life through her rose colored glasses. She loves love and wants nothing more than to be in love. After a bad break up and a heart transplant, she’s a bit untethered. But then she starts talking to the donor’s widow and they seem to have chemistry. Then many crazy things begin to happen and Rosie is caught up in a murder investigation. This book has tons of surprising twists - a great and fun read!

Thank you to NetGalley, Megan Collins and Atria Books for an ARC of this twisty thriller. I can honestly say that there were times where I felt invested in the book, but about halfway through, I was starting to lose interest. I was not particularly fond of the characters and the POV.. maybe multiple POVS would have been better? Not my favourite thriller.

A man whose wife died in an accident reaches out to meet the woman who received his wife’s heart seemed like a great premise. However I figured out a “big” plot twist easily early on and I felt like the end left unanswered questions about the husband which I thought was unnecessarily. Maybe there could have been an epilogue where we learned a little bit about his POV. I’d give it 3.5 stars if halves were allowed and I’d be interested in reading books by this author in the future.

Rosie is just someone who REALLY wants to be loved, okay? And after her last boyfriend broke her heart - literally, she had a to get a heart transplant - she deserves it, right? So she starts messaging her heart transplant donor's husband... And things take off from there. This was a pretty unique thriller with plenty of twists and turns that I did NOT see coming. Points taken off because it lagged a little at times, and Rosie and her "Rosie colored glasses" got under my skin after a while, but overall it is a pretty solid read!

3.5 stars.

This was a crazy ride. There were a couple of twists that sent me reeling and I had to regroup to understand everything that was taking place. There were some very clever moments that had the tension cranked up as if anything could happen...because things kind of went off the rails a bit.

A perfectly enjoyable read and a good plot basis, I had fun with this one. But it does have some issues that lent it to being a more average rated book.

My primary issue: the characters. I really didn't like any of them. There was a lot of whining and self-deprecation and just a whole lot of psychological issues. I didn't feel like the protagonist learned a dang thing and the people around her all had some sort of problem. Is there something in the water in this town? Because everyone is wildly damaged in some way. Obsession is a major issue for a lot of them and everyone seems to be very selfish and insulated. It drove me nuts. I just wanted one person who wasn't a whack-a-do.

Second main issue that prevented a higher rating: The motivation behind the events in the narrative seems a little weak. I mean, I get it, but the set up and background for it wasn't super solid. There was a lot of telling rather than showing, I guess? It just seemed a little thin and didn't really feel emotionally believable. Meh. Maybe I'm just picky.

Anyway...despite my issues with the overall technical merit of the story, I still enjoyed the read. It was fast-paced and interesting and it kept my attention. Not a bad pick for a beach read, travel read, or palate cleanser.
