Cross My Heart offers a unique premise that blends romance with mystery, but ultimately leaves more to be desired. Rosie Lachlan, still reeling from being left at the altar, receives a heart transplant she believes belonged to Daphne Thorne, the wife of local author Morgan Thorne. As she begins an anonymous connection with Morgan through DonorConnect, Rosie becomes convinced that the heart she now carries is leading her to him.

While the concept is intriguing, the execution falls a bit flat. The slow buildup and the mystery surrounding Daphne’s death do create some tension, but the suspense often feels predictable, and the romantic connection between Rosie and Morgan doesn’t fully capture the emotional weight the story promises. Rosie’s internal struggle with her secret is compelling at times, but some of her decisions feel forced, detracting from the overall believability of the plot.

Despite these flaws, the book offers a decent exploration of love, fate, and loss. Fans of light mysteries with a touch of romance might find enjoyment here, but it doesn’t quite reach its full potential.

I really enjoyed this book!
I loved how twisty is was, keeping you guessing with who was the real bad guy, was it him or her? The obsession and way the story was told hooked me from the beginning. And I loved the authors disclaimer that no pets were hurt in the book!
Overall it was a fun twisty read and I’m so glad I steeped out of my comfort zone to try it out!

Easy read. Pulled me in from the start. I did find the chapters a little long and it dragged at times. Will definitely recommend as a solid thriller though.

This was the first book from Megan Collins that I've read and I enjoyed it. I thought it was well written and I liked the characters. I do wish there were shorter chapters.

Rosie, a heart transplant recipient, works in her family run bridal dress shop. After some searching, she learns that her new heart came from the wife of a local published writer, Morgan. His wife's death is suspicious and as Rosie corresponds with Morgan she struggles with her feelings.

This was a twisty tale that I thought was worth the read.

I loved this thriller so much back in January and am just now getting to posting it. Cross My Heart is a twisty, fast-paced drama that I devoured in one sitting on a plane.

I haven’t read anything else by this author but was convinced by this book that I need to stalk her backlist. When Rosie starts to fall for the widow of the woman who saved her life via donated heart…. the twists just don’t stop.

This one will have you guessing until the last page. Check it out if you love thrillers, suburban drama, and multiple timelines!

**Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC of this wild title!!**

Cross My Heart was a fun quick binge. Would be great to save for summer for the pool or beach. Not too scary if you’re a wimp! I really enjoyed this thriller. The heart transplant aspect of this book was really unique and interesting. This is the perfect book to pick up if you’re experiencing a reading slump. The twist in this book I did not find predictable which is a sign of a well written thriller. I absolutely loved the ending it was very satisfying. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for the ARC.

A fun read. I will say the chapters were longer than I like. They did drag for me. However it was a great time, I was pulled in from the start and highly recommend.

Ahh I loved this and didn’t want to put it down! Although I seen the twist from a mile away, this was a thriller that I still found super unique. It was a fun ride that still always left me questioning, and I loved the ending. The FMC Rosie got quite a bit of development which I don’t often see in thrillers. Heavily related to her thoughts and feelings and it was scary how much of my past self I could see in her. It made me really love her even if she wasn’t always the most reliable.

I think it’s especially perfect for readers who like romance and occasionally pick up thrillers!

This was a good thriller and really held my interest with the twists and turns. If you like Frieda I'd recommend! The main characters were all kind of insufferable. I wanted so badly to relate to the FMC but couldn't quite get there. I gave an extra half star for all the Taylor references.

Cross My Heart is a rollercoaster of suspense and romance that kept me on the edge of my seat! It's plot is as twisty as a heart-shaped rollercoaster, this book had me guessing until the very last page.

Rosie Lachlan is a heroine you can't help but root for—she’s been through the wringer, both emotionally and physically. Having just received a life-saving heart transplant, she’s trying to piece her life back together. The twist? She’s convinced that her new heart once belonged to the wife of a famous local author. Rosie starts reaching out to Morgan via DonorConnect, an anonymous messaging service, hoping to learn more about her donor and—let’s be honest—possibly to make a connection with Morgan himself.

What follows is a tale of love, obsession, and a web of secrets that could be straight out of a true crime documentary. Rosie’s determination to find "The One" becomes intertwined with a darker mystery: Did Morgan have a hand in Daphne’s death? As Rosie’s fascination with Morgan grows, so does the tension, and you’ll find yourself furrowing your brow, flipping pages feverishly, and wondering what’s going to happen next.

Collins’ writing is sharp and atmospheric, pulling you into Rosie’s world where the lines between reality and obsession blur. The twists and turns are masterfully executed, making you question every character’s motives and the reliability of every clue. Just when you think you’ve figured it all out, Collins throws in a surprise that’ll make you rethink everything you’ve read.

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers with a touch of romance and a whole lot of suspense, *Cross My Heart* is a must-read. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to cancel all your plans, just so you can stay curled up with it until you reach the last, jaw-dropping page. Five stars for a novel that’s as heart-stopping as it is heartwarming!

❤️ BOOK / REVIEW 💻

What a deliciously wicked book #crossmyheart by the incredible @megancollinswriter turned out to be! I absolutely loved this one on #audiobook
- it flew by, and I couldn't wait to grab my headphones every chance I got! Thank you so much, @simon.audio, for my #gifted #ALC.

This one has some STRONG single white female vibes ... and it's not just one female - it's 3!! I adored every single twist and turn in this one of a kind book. The plot was SO unique, which made me love it more.

As a reader, I had a lot of compassion for Rosie, but I also felt like I was watching a trainwreck the entire book. She doesn't make the best decisions - but it's all in the name of finding love (and herself) after a heartbreaking romance ended. I felt like her friend Nina through the entire thing - one part scared for her and the other part? Scared of her!

While suspenseful, this one won't keep you awake at night. It was more of a psychological thriller with multiple unreliable narrators. It's quick, witty and definitely a wild ride.

So glad I got a chance to listen to this one - it's out now!

What a wild story of what some people will do for love! This was a very fast paced thriller that left me guessing until the very end. It is also a story about moving on after a heartbreak and a story of friendship. MAJOR bonus points for the authors note at the beginning, it made my animal loving heart extremely happy! Definitely plan on reading other books by this author!

This was a very twisty thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed! Rosie receives a heart transplant and she realizes the donor heart has come from a famous author’s deceased wife. She then decides she is destined to marry him and starts to contact him. Rosie has had some problems with obsession and confusing reality in the past so her best friend is very concerned that she is sliding down this path again by communicating with Morgan. Is Morgan who he seems or does he have some skeletons in his past? I don’t want to say more and give away key elements of the plot since it is a thriller. This book was engrossing and fast paced. I loved the writing and the very twisty plot. Definitely add this to your TBR.

I've really enjoyed Megan Collins' books in the past, so I was excited to start Cross My Heart. Rosie Lachlan’s journey as a heart transplant recipient who becomes romantically fixated on her donor’s husband, Morgan Thorne, is odd and unsettling. The concept of a person believing they’re destined to be with someone simply because they have their deceased partner’s heart is such a fascinating idea, and the author does a great job of exploring the emotional and psychological complexities of that obsession. It kind of reminds me of a Minnie Driver/David Duchovny romantic comedy from the early aughts that I absolutely loved, although this was a lot darker.

Unfortunately, I didn't love this as much as that movie that I can't remember the name of. I did enjoy the ride for the most part, but there were moments where I found it hard to fully connect with Rosie. Her fixation on Morgan felt a bit over-the-top at times, and I struggled to believe in the depth of her feelings, especially considering the mysterious backstory that slowly unravels about Morgan and his wife. The suspense was solid, but the pacing was slow at times.

The twists and turns were definitely there, and the reveal about Morgan’s past kept me on edge, but my struggle connecting with Rosie made it hard for me to fully care about what was going on. I also had a hard time with the character of Rosie's best friend. She was not a great friend in my opinion, and she annoyed the hell out of me.

The narrator was phenomenal, though. And Collins' writing is always great. This just wasn't my favorite by her.
